Unable to connect to network from rootkit to error 1075

Q: Unable to connect to network from rootkit to error 1075

This is my sister's netbook. The problems started with one of those new "fake antivirus" that puts up a ton of obviously fake results that claim your computer is highly infected*. She being... less technologically inclined apparently decided to run the "Antivirus scan" over and over again over night and then the next day gave it to me to try to figure out what was wrong. I can't find the links right now but I found a bunch of blogs that mentioned (Privacyprotection.exe) and among the most frustrating aspects what that it blocked pretty much everything from running. I did a bit of digging and eventually found out it was a rootkit causing the issues and the tools they gave me wouldn't run but I was able to follow the manual instructions. (remove the .exe, remove the alias, regedit and remove the key that matched privacyprotection.exe but not the other ones like the one underchrome etc). That took care of the major problem and I was able to get Microsoft Security Essentials running but everyscan kept turning up a few "Trojans" and that upon trying to clean would result in an error. The error would lead to 'restart to finish removel'. I tried safe mode and the same result. One top of that google results kept getting redirected (forget the site right now.. something like awesomesearch.com or what have you). I decided to try from another angle the redirect angle and found thishttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic422038.htmlI tried the TDSS with middling results. I found one problem. Cured it but MSE kept throwing up red flags when i rebooted. It kept cleaning the problem but finding it upon reboot. Eventually what worked was starting from the top. Booted into SafeMode I used MiniToolBox, TDSS by this point was giving me no results so that was good. I ran RKill. and finally the rootkit and all associated trojans were gone quick scan was completely clean.New ProblemI STILL can't run Malware Anti-Malware Bytes. I keep getting a not enough permissions type of error. Not that I'm terribly concerned about that.. My major problem is that the computer will not longer get online. I have my ethernet cable and we have wifi but nothing. I did a bit of diggingAs suggested herehttp://forums.techguy.org/2942026-post6.htmlThe '2' in "Local Area Connection 2" is of no consequence; it's really just counting the number of times you reinstalled. The original no longer exists. You can rename this one to anything you want to.You have convinced me that you are correct about the problem being with your computer, but I have no good ideas. Some other things I would check or try ...Right click on the connection - Properties; make sure Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is listed and checked.Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services; make sure TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper and DHCP Client services are started.Device Manager - right click on the ethernet adaptor - Properties - Advanced tab; make sure 'Link Speed & Duplex' is auto-detect (or the correct value for your network). From the General tab try the "Troubleshoot" (almost never works, but once in a while ...).Start - Run - cmd - OK; in the command window type ping 127.0.0.1This is a loopback test; if you don't get four responses the adaptor is probably bad and you'll need to get a new one. Or, if warranty, convince them to replace. My problem came up when I went to admin tools. TCI/IP NetBIOS Helper and DHCP client couldn't be started. I would get the errorerror 1075 the dependency service does not existI'm under the wire here and the MS link wasn't helpful (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839089) but I did find something that looks a bit more usefulhttp://kaliphonia.com/content/windows/how-to-fix-error-1075-the-dependency-service-does-not-exist-or-has-been-marked-for-dI tried to follow the more simple instructions firstUpdate #1:------One of my reader which having the same exact error message as stated above, but different problem. His problem was the Windows Firewall service on his computer cannot be started, stopped, nor restarted. Suggested to reset the winsock instead. Launch command line and execute the following command:netsh winsock resetThis method works for him, I just put it here for your reference -- in case you have the same problem.and that didn't work so i tried the main oneCure:Note: all of the commands below executed from Windows command line.Stop WMI service:net stop winmgmtWe will rebuild the repository, rename the folder to something else as a backup.ren %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository Repository_oldStart WMI service:net start winmgmtRepair the repository:Windows XP:rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepositoryWindows Vista:winmgmt /salvagerepositoryRegister the new WMI components:cd /d %windir%\system32\wbemfor %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %ifor %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServerReboot the computer for the changes to take effect. My sister is a combination of impatient, panicy, and unwilling to adapt so I'm trying to solve this as quickly as possible before she tried to borrow money to try to buy another computer (not that she particularly likes this form factor anyway *too small*). Reinstalling Windows is a dire dire prognosis for a number of reasons. a) she saves everything on the desktop so she can find it. She works with a lot of files so the entire desktop is filled with documents all of which she wants in the same location. ehh now I'm sort of rambling on about issues that are more for me than for you.Any help in resolving this could be greatly appreciated.ComputerWinXP Home - SP3Netbook - http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-aspire-10-1-netbook-featuring-intel-atom-n4a55-processor-aod257-13448-black-aod257-13448/10171799.aspx?lang=en-CA&pcname=&sku=10171799&path=0aff52c060c7943dc42ff91304181351en02I did just try to do the comprehensive reinstall portion but I forgot that needs a disc and these are netbooks without drives. I did just remember however that we have two of these computers. One for each of my sisters. If there is someway I can copy the file i need from one computer to another that might be workable.* wow.. as I'm typing this I'm wondering if this is what my cousin had when she called me a few weeks ago ... but that's a topic for a different thread.Editjust tried SUPERAntiSpyware Freeas suggested here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic267354.html)and again that was rather helpful for ridding myself of infections but it hasn't solved my network problem.

i'm using a dell inspiron 8600, sp3. i've never had problems accessing the internet until a few weeks ago when i moved. i was slated to join in on my roommmates network, but for some reason I cannot connect. Or more precisely, I connect for about 2 seconds, and I'm immediately bumped off. My roommates tried to fix it, but in vain. the signal is coming in strong on my computer, so I'm not sure what the issue is. any help is definitely welcomed.

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can help me.
We have three computers at home two which are connected to router and working fine and my laptop.
My laptop was connecting to my home wireless network until my daughter used it last. Now it will not connect at all
I used to have to follow the steps below for some reason and then it would connect fine:
Wireless network connections
Change advanced settings
Wireless Networks tab
I would have to tick the checkbox USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS
Then into properties for my wireless network and in association retype my password and then it would connect. (it seemed like to much work every time but it still worked)
There was other networks in the list which i deleted and wireless network connection shows that the network connection strength is excellent but it just seems to get stuck aquiring the network address. I have tried repair etc.

Can someone please help me with this as maybe it's just something simple!!

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

I need real help. I had cable internet 12mbs installed last September (2010) in my one bedroom apartment. Before that, I was connecting to a spotty 1.5mbs network that was open next door (with their permission). I was able to obtain fast and efficient internet access for about 3 or 4 months and then it became intermittent. For the past 2 months I have been unable to connect through my home cable modem/router at all. I have been to the cable company and they have tested the cable modem/router and the signal which comes into the router and out at fast speeds. I have been to the place where I bought my laptop (purchased at Staples last summer). Others can connect though my wifi, but I cannot. It connects but gives me a DNS error. It doesn't matter whether I am hard wired or on wifi.

Hello,

I'm recently recovering from a mild virus infection on my computer, and noticed that after I had run Avast! and Malwarebytes to remove the virus, my computer lost its internet functionality. Upon running ipconfig in command prompt, I noticed that the computer was not being assigned an IP address, which lead me to believe there could be an issue with DHCP.

When running services.msc, I notice that both DHCP client and TCP/IP netbios are not running, and when I try to run them, I get an error 1075, that the files are "either non-existent or marked for deletion". I noticed that someone else had posted a very similar problem, but a few of the fixes were not available for viewing/download as they were specifically tailored for that issue.

I'm currently running Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop I had purchased in mid-2006.

DHCP error 1075--can not start the DHCP client on local computer.Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion..

Hi thanks for any help you can give.
Machine is a Dell dimension e520
Win XP Media center edition SP 2

I have the original dell discs and access to a working laptop also running win XP [this one]

During a routine virus scan by avira anti vir it quarentined c:\windowes\system32\drivers\netby.sys.

This disabled the DHCP client so no IP traffic
I restored the file but still no luck

After trying to renew the IP and some searching around I found that the HKEY local machine system currentcontrolset services NETbt registry key is missing

In services DHCP cannot be restarted --gives the warning above.
AFD and TCP/IP are in device manager -non plug & play show hidden devices NETbt is not

Can the registry be repaired from the original discs without having to reinstall everything else?
Or is it as easy as inserting the missing registry key?

Thanks Bob

Hello all,

I've noticed that a few people have posted concerning this topic, so I've tried to read up on as many possible solutions before posting.

I noticed that someone else had posted a very similar problem, but a few of the more advanced fixes seemed specifically tailored for their issue.

Below are the fixes I've attempted thus far -

1. Checked the registry for DHCP?s dependencies (3 are listed, Afd, Tcpip, and NetBT).
2. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing ?netsh int ip reset reset.log? into command prompt.
3. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing ?netsh winsock reset catalog? into command prompt.
4. Ran ?sfc /scannow? with an XP SP3 CD.

I'm currently running Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop I had purchased in mid-2006.

DHCP and TCP/IP can not be started from Services with out the following error.

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

I've checked the dependencies and all are running.

AFD is the only driver common to both DHCP and TCP/IP so I assumed it is either not running or is corrupt..yet when I try to start AFD from the CMD prompt I get...."service is already running.

I have since disabled my Lan Connection via Network Connections as it just sits there trying to acquire ip without ever timing out.

I also performed a registry scan with Registry Booster in Safe Mode. It reported:

1061 System Errors
205 User Errors, and
1 Third Party Error

A cursory review of the log tells me the majority have to do with poorly uninstalled programs. I did NOT let Registry Booster fix anything.

The full message is error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion

This started with a tidserv!inf infection. Norton End-Point seems to have deleted all related virus infections, however, I am now unable to start the DHCP service. I have to set a static IP in order to connect to the internet.

I believe tdx.dll was identified as a virus and deleted. it was listed as a dependancy of dhcp but had no descriptor. Currently it is not listed as a dependancy.

I cannot view network shares from this PC nor can I view shares that I host here on other PC's. Only this computer shows up in net places.

I did an sfc /scannow and it told me audiodev.dll and mofd.dll were corrupted and the files in the store have been corrupted.

I had to take ownership with the admin group in order to replace them with extracted copies from my windows cd, but I when I went back to reassign trustedinstaller as the owner it was not listed as an option.

my cd is without service pack and my installed service pack is sp2.

can anyone be of assistance.

A:DHCP error 1075

My dhcp was working for a day but its back down again. i dont know how to recreate the dependancy on tdx

A:Unable to connect to this network

and welcome to the Forum

I moved your threat to the Networking Forum. Has this pc ever connected to your home network before?

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error a... Read more

I have set up a small network in my office - the computers included all use the same Workgroup Name = WORKGROUP. We use a combination of Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. I just set up the newest Windows 7 Professional pc and I am getting the following error when trying to access:

\\FISCHER-PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

I am setup on all PC's as an Administrator. I have confirmed that the Workgroup Name matches. I can see the PC when I "view devices on the network". I can't seem to even gain access to the computer to see if I can access the folders I've shared.

I followed the same procedures with a PC running Windows 7 and have had no issue getting access to the computer.

Recently I switched ISPs to Qwest, after switching I noticed a severe lag in my wireless internet feed to my PC. I was able to connect to my network and access my internets as I pleased. Recently after that my mum had her laptop's wireless card fritz out. She called a gent from Geek Squad to come out and he re-worked the wireless set-up and updated the firmware for our router and everything. He was unable to get to my computer in time to set me into the network and as usual with them, their directions on how I am to set it up were forgotten and then never written down.

So, that night when I went to access my network it did not show up in the list of available networks. My wireless card is 2 weeks old and works fine, it's just a matter of integrating myself into the network. Any help would be very much appreciated.

A:Unable to connect to network on my PC.

Well first off, don't go to Geek Squad, they seriously don't know anything.

OKay and 2nd, I need more info, what is the wireless router model, what kind of secruity, what is your new ISP and if it comes down to anything, you may have to install a new update onto your ISP or for your router. My mother had the same problem when she got her new Vista laptop.

I have been trying to connect to my university's network, but I am unable. I USED to be able, but now something changed and I can't. I am pretty sure that my Ethernet card is working properly, since when I plug in the cord I get a blinking green light, and it says that the driver is installed and working properly. Plus, when I run IPCONFIG, it gives me an IP Address and Subnet Mask. However, it does NOT give me either a Connection-Specific DNS Suffix nor a Default Gateway. I checked, and I am pretty sure that I have no firewalls (including the built-on XP one) running. Any idea why I can get an IP address and not connect to the network? My computer is registered with the university, and I used to be able to get online.
Thank you!!!!

Windows XP Pro
3.0 Mhz P4
1 GB PC3200 RAM
On-Board NIC

Let me run down the spiel of this network saga:

Power surge happened Sunday afternoon. Sunday morning, I was connected fine. The orange light on the NIC shows it's on, but no connectivity. I have Comcast. Comcast modem is showing 4 lights - Power, Receive, Send, and Online. There is also a PC/Activity Light. That is suppose to show orange and nothing is blinking there. I also have a wireless network setup. The wireless router is responding and it seems to be getting activity from the LAN. I have a laptop that is setup wireless, but it won't connect to the internet since my modem doesn't have LAN activity.

I was on the phone w/ Comcast trying to figure this out. Replaced out network cables, reset modem numerous times, reset PC numerous times, hard-wired modem to the PC, hard-wired modem to my laptop with LAN enabled, still nothing. Comcast said to replace out modem. Replaced it out and still no connectivity. Brought my PC up to work to determine if it's a bad NIC or not. I had a live connection and I notice the orange light on my NIC is still on with or without any ethernet cable. Powered the PC on and still no connectivity. Uninstalled NIC and the PC detected the NIC. Still no connection. Checked in BIOS to see if on-board LAN is on and it is on. Reset BIOS and still no connectivity. Any other suggestions or bad NIC?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I've been trying to help a friend fix her computer. I seem to be stuck and can't figure it out.

I scanned it with AVG and the only infection that shows up is Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.BZSZ. I also scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and quite a bit more infected files showed up. It crashes whenever I try to repair anything. The computer is running Windows 7 32bit. The only obvious symptoms I can see is it's not able to connect to any network.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

Since recently I am no longer able to connect to my router from one of my laptops. The connection is failing wireless as well as by cable. My other two laptops are having no problem at all so I think it is a problem with the laptop.

I check other posts and found I could do a TCP/IP reset so I have done that.
If have executed these commands on a elevated command line:
- netsh winsock reset catalog
- netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
- netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

I have restared the laptop afterwards but the problem remains: I am unable to connect to the router.

This is the output of the "ipconfig /all" command (command is ran while I've had only the adapter with the cable enabled, wireless adapter was disabled):

Try turning your router off for a couple of minutes. If that doesn't work, try changing the channel and encryption type in the router settings. Need help solving Error #1075 problem in conjunction with CheckPoint VPN NGX R60 HFA3. I am using a Dell E6510 laptop computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit OS. I can get this VPN to run and connect when I use Microsoft's XP virtual machine sitting on the Windows 7 desktop but I cannot get it to run on the Windows 7 desktop by itself.

Although the VPN seems to load without incident the associated icon "key" does not appear in the notification tray at the lower right. It does appear in the XP virtual machine and on a separate HP desk top running Vista.

When I type services.msc at the Win 7 command prompt I get a list of all the loaded services including the CheckPoint VPN. It is at this point when I try to start the VPN I get the 1075 error. When I check the dependencies under the VPN I find the "CheckPoint Office Mode Module" and the "VPN-1 Module".

How do I determine if these dependencies are causing the 1075 error message? What steps do I need to take to resolve the error message so the VPN will start?

DHCP Client will not start from services menu and neither will TCP/IP all other networking services appear to be started and working.

DHCP dependencies are:

AFD Networking Support Environment
TCP/IP Protocol
IPSEC driver
TCP/IP dependencies are:
AFD

Since the TCP/IP's only dependency is AFD I suspect it has been deleted or corrupted. How do I go about fixing that?

I have read through the original thread (now closed) and tried all it's suggestions. However, I am still having the same IP (on lack of) issues. I ended my efforts with the running of SFC /SCANNOW which took a considerable amount of time, but resulted in no errors of any kind.

I continue to get the Error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion, message when trying to start the DHCP Client.

I'm afraid searching the suggested logs for the dependency items it a little over my head.

A little background for my situation. The computer in question is my teenage daughters. A week ago she started having problems with the internet and I'm assuming this is some sort of virus. Whenever selecting a website to launch to, something intervenes and chooses some alternate website. Never the same one twice. I loaded AVAST free version and did a scan. I also updated Malware Bytes and did another scan. I then loaded Kaspersky TDDS killer and did a scan with that. After all that, and roughly 15 files quarantined and deleted, I now have this IP problem. I cannot restore the computer back to an earlier time.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings,
I am having a major DHCP error on my girlfriend's laptop. I am primarily a Linux user so I'm kinda lost here as her machine is running XP. It's a Dell XPS M1210 which, conveniently, did not come with a recovery CD or even partition.
Anyway, a few weeks ago her wireless network device stopped working. It would look like it was connecting, but it would hang on "Acquiring network address." At first I thought maybe the device was shot, until I had the chance to test out the wired ethernet, which has the same problem.
After quite a bit of googling, I ran services.msc, and saw that DHCP is not running. When I try to start it from that menu, however, I get this message: "Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
After more googling, I discovered that DHCP has only 3 dependencies: TCP/IP, AFD, and NetBt. I checked the registry, and those were the only ones listed.
After even more googling, I ran devmgmt.msc and selected "show hidden devices" and double clicked on "non plug and play devices." I TCP/IP and AFD are both there. NetBt, however, is not.
I've spent hours doing further googling and tried pretty much every fix I could find and nothing seems to work. If the PC had shipped with a recovery CD I imagine this would be easy to fix but alas no luck. I need to get this working so I can set up my new internets and I... Read more

Intel Core Duo 2.13Ghz
Marvell Yukon 88E8056 Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Okay, so here's the status. I can't connect to my network at all. There are no connections listed in the Network Connections menu in the Control Panel. The ipconfig /all results in the message 'Internal error. The request is not supported'. In the Device Manager, all the network adapter components are listed (mainly the Marvell Yukon controller), however they all have exclamation marks next to them. When checking their status they give the message 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'.

I've tried reinstalling the controller drivers, as well as uninstalling the controller completely and reinstalling it.
I've also tried a few solutions (mainly from this site, actually), including the regsvr32 netshell.dll/netcfgx.dll/netman.dll commands in the cmd menu, as well as resetting tcp/ip using the netshell command.

I'm at an utter loss.
Tomorrow, I intend to open up the computer and take a look at the controller.
In the meantime, anyone have any other ideas.
Any help will be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Update:
Okay, opened her up, found that the NIC is integrated so I can't replace it or remove it. Searched the Acer site (PC's an E560) for any other controller drivers, but ended up with the same ones that won't work.

I am now completely stumped.

I bought a computer yesterday and am currently unable to connect to my wireless network. The network is a shared wireless network, WEP network key and i'm using a Netcomm Np 7040 usb lan adapter. When I open wireless connections the wireless network is visible and when I try to connect it gives me the error message "windows is unable to connect to the selected wireless network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." I have already googled the problem and one bit of advise was to add the network in the advanced settings and include the network key in that. I did that and it is still coming up with the message. The usb adapter works on all the other computers when connecting to the network so I doubt its that. Any ideas?

Hi and welcome

Im assuming you are using Homegroup for networking.

Lets take a look at device manager by typing device manager in search. go to the wif tab and look to see if your card listed listed. Is it? does it have a yellow triangle on it?

Are there any "unknown" devices with yellow on them?

I have a computer, obviously not this one-that can not connect to the local network, and from this can not connect to the internet.

It's on windows xp sp2

recently had to allow MAC authentication to prevent certain neighbors from stealing our internet.

In the device manager nothing has a ! ? or flagged red.

but in the network folder it says that all the network connections are disabled, I've tried to figure out how to enable them but to no avail.

The computer is using a linksys wireless-b usb network adapter, and previously has worked.

what can I do to solve this problem.
sorry if you guys get this sort of question a thousand times per day.

Hey everyone,

I've suddenly been unable to connect to my wireless network and this is the sequence of events leading to the problem. (Currently using a friend's computer). My chrome browser got hijacked by the search conduit virus. So, I cleaned it with AdW cleaner. My internet connection was ok then. After that, I ran ccleaner and cleared the registry.
Now, I find that I have trouble even connecting to my wireless - it says limited connectivity or no connectivity. The other comp's in my house can connect to the internet fine. I've checked and resetted my network adapter. It is working, but still can't connect. I restored all my registry but still it doesn't solve the problem. What have I done wrong?

I hope someone can give me a hand with this problem. It would be very much appreciated.

Regards,
Leon

A:unable to connect to wireless network

would you post back an xirrus screen and also indicate which wireless is yours
Make and model of your router
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I was recently infected with the Live Security Platinum malware and took steps to remove it. On another site, I was told to run Combofix to try and correct the problem. Once I ran it, the problem waqs not fixed AND I am now unable to connection to my internet connection. Hello! First post here, probably won't be my last

Here's the situation... I'm trying to connect to my wireless network, but when I do, it simply says "Windows could not connect to (my network name)"
Then I go to troubleshooting, and I get to a loading screen that says "Detecting problems, looking for problems in adapter, resolving problems, ver... etc" and then another window pops up when that's done, that basically tells me to reset the adapter, wait 10 seconds, yada yada you know how that goes.

I reset my modem, and then press "Check to see if the problem is fixed."

Same loading screen comes up as the one I posted above. Then it comes to a screen that says "Windows could not resolve your wireless connectivity issue."
There is a backstory to this. Last weekend, my mom's computer crashed (not exactly sure what happened, she is much less computer literate than I am and just credited the crash to a virus, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it... long story short she just had a friend re-install windows 7 and whatnot.)
She needed me to her re-connected to our wireless network.. At the time, I was able to (and was) connected to our network. I ran into the same problem with hers, but ended up doing something to get it to work. I didn't meddle with any of the network options, I don't think (I can't remember... I didn't change any passwords, I left it on WPA-2 Personal, all that).

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before-i'm not "techy" so I don't really know all the correct terms to do a search by.

I have a "new to me" laptop. Its a Dell Inspirion 9300. I am unable to log on to the wireless network. I see that there's an excellent connection and my computer is telling me that I am connected but when I try to access the internet, via Chrome, I get nada. I get a message telling me that the DNS look up failed, I'm using Windows XP, have Norton Internet Security and am using the Wise 365 Registry Cleaner (it was acting funky before I downloaded the registry cleaner). Is there anything else I need to include? I know the computer's old, but I never had a problem accessing the internet before.

Thanks in advance!

I have a Guest network that is for b/g speeds only and requires [WPA2][Auth(PSK)]. I type the password in and Windows comes back and says something is wrong with the adapter or the access point.

I have taken the tablet over to StarBucks and was able to connect to their wireless network easily.

Of course Acer is no help. Since it came with Windows 7, that is the only support they can offer.

I have an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG wireless adapter. I have tried to install the Win7 drivers and it will not allow the installation to run. I can see all the wireless SSID around me, including my Guest network.

Any ideas?

Hi
I've searched the web endlessly trying to solve this problem with one of my laptops - without any luck at all. Hoping someone here is able to assist.

My main PC, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad all connect to my home wifi network. All worked perfectly until 3 days ago.

The 2 laptops and my PC all run Windows 8.1 (all updated). 3 days ago my Toshiba Qosmio stopped being able to connect to my home network. All other devices still connect perfectly.

The Qosmio doesn't detect my wifi network. I immediately went to the network adapter's (Qualcomm Atheros) website and downloaded the latest driver. Installed it and for a brief (very brief) time it could once again detect and connect to the network. Last 3 days unable to either detect or connect.

It detects other networks fine, and has no problems connecting to any other network - except mine (doesn't even detect mine anymore). It connects to the iPhone (when used as a hotspot) without any issues.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the new driver, re-booted the wireless router (several times), re-set the router to factory settings, used Windows trouble shooter, checked & deleted the netsh profiles. Re-booted the laptop a dozen + times, disabled (& uninstalled software) for the laptop's Bluetooth.

It simply stopped working.

I've tried everything I can find on the web - without any success at all. I've had the laptop sitting only a few cm from the router.
Not sure where else I can go with this now... Read more

How I got to where I am now:

I just cant seem to pick up the signal. The 2 other people in the house do not have this problem and have full signal from the network.

My computer: Windows XP version 2002
My brand new laptop: Windows 7 Premium Familial Edition
My router: Linksys Broadband router with 4 -port switch, model WRT54G

I have no clue what I am doing wrong, I changed the workgroup of my laptop to the same one as my computer and it's not working.

Thanks for the help.

A:Unable To Connect My Laptop To My Network

I am in the same boat. I can connect to my WRT54G via Ethernet cable but not wireless. Linksys says that a new program will be out very soon called Network Magic to connect to the WRT54G, and other models I presume, to computers with Windows 7.

I've warned my gf about letting her 11 and 16y/o use the computer, as well as them, explaining that when they "accept" some offer..it's always, at best spyware, and at worst malware.

Periodically I clean it up, occasionally finding malware. The last one I found was located with the suffix .ru which is Russia. I suspect it was a trojan. When I removed it, all of a sudden, the computer which connected to the verizon modem, stopped connecting.

It's as though something within the computer has changed...? I eventually, in frustration, reformatted and reloaded win98se, expecting that to fix it. It did not.

I have tried multiple network cards, different slots, and different modems, both her dsl modem, and then at my place, via my network that feeds into verizon dsl. My other comps work just fine.

Could the malware have changed the networking somehow? Computer works just fine otherwise, but will not connect via any of three network cards, even though two work just fine in my computer.

I'm lost...any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

A:Unable to connect via network card??

First we need the systems specs. Hd size, Ram amount, cpu chip. Second try this. It's been awile since I used 98SE but I think there is an icon on the desktop called My Network or My Network Places. Double click on that. Then if you do not see the local area connection look for a link called View My Network Connections. Once you see the Local Area Connection icon make sure it is enabled. If it is not right click and click enable. If it is enabled then right click and click repair. Try to connect after that. Hope this helps.

A:Unable to connect to the internet, only to the network

Hi tessiermaurice welcome to the forums.

Couple of questions to help us troubleshoot:
1. Are there any other machines on the network? If so do they have an Internet connection?
2. Is it on ALL networks, or one network in particular?
3. If on one network in particular, how is the network set up? is it a router or a modem?
4. Please open command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" and post the results back.

Also, please fill out your System Specs it will help us enormously, both now and for future problems.
Thanks

So how can I fix this problem?

P.S. I had also made sure that the interface was up.

I just had to format my hardrive and reinstall Windows XP.

Now I am trying to connect to the internet via my already establisched Cable -> Router -> PC network but no matter what I try the 'Wizard' doesn't seem to do what I need.

I obviously have a connection at the cable modem and router since I was able to use the other PC in my house to post this.

The PC I just formatted IS connected exactly the same way it was before I reinstalled XP (with a hard line directly to the router).

I am frustrated that this is so non-intuitive.

Can someone PLEASE walk me through getting the PC to be able to connect to the internet again.

try this

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Hello all,

I have recently formatted my laptop because it didn't work properly anymore.
Now that it's working again, I find myself unable to connect to my wireless network.
I believe I should only have to enter my SSID code and network key while trying to access my connection.
This doesn't work.
When I try to repair the connection it hangs at connecting to wireless network.
Anybody have an idea what's wrong?

Thanks in advance

A:Unable to connect to wireless network

Did you install the wireless adapter drivers?
Look in device manager to see if there are any Yellow Marks indicating missing drivers.
You should be able to get your drivers from the maker of the laptop.

Can anyone help with the following problem please?

I am unable to connect to a wireless network.

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with an Atheros AR5007EG wireless adapter. This shows as "working correctly" in Device Manager. I have tried to re-install drivers for it endlessly. They all seem to install ok but I still have the problem.

The symtoms are....

1) If I try to setup a wireless connection I get "An unexpected error occured". There are no useful looking messages in Event Viewer.

2) If I use "Diagnose and repair" I get "The network adapter is experiencing driver or hardware related issues".

I have uninstalled just about anything that I think might be causing conflicts. I have scanned for malware. I have run chkdsk and sfc. I have all the latest updates from Windows Update. I have tried in Safe Mode with Networking but still get the same results.

OS is Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2.

I'd be grateful for any advice that might help to resolve this please.

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop that I cannot get to connect to my wireless network. It used to connect with no problem at all. Just all of a sudden it quit connecting. And if it does connect to the network, it says that the network “has limited or no connectivity.” The IP address which I get when this happens is a 169… number. I have never had problems connecting before…THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING!
The laptop recognizes that the network is in range and receives the strongest signal so I don’t think it is a problem with the router. I have even reset the router settings just to try and fix the problem. Also tried disabling the security settings…still won’t connect.
When I do ipconfig/all, this is what it says:

Hey all!

Few days ago I got Acer V5-531. On this laptop, I can easily connect to wireless networks, but my home one. I could do it on my old laptop with no problems. How is it possible to solve this? It's getting quite annoying, especially knowing that this is the only network I can't connect to. In case with this network, it prompts password and then says "Unable to connect".

What have I tried

Air Mode is off
Updating/rolling drivers back
Resetting the router once (owned by neighbor, thus, I cant perform all maintenance on it)
router lights are on
pw is correct
wireless switch is on
What else can be done?
Thanks all!

I have a Dell Demension L733r with a Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adaptor. When I start the computer, it connects to the wireless network immediately. As I go through the day, all of a sudden I start getting "Unable to Connect to Wireless Network". I click on the popup and then click on repair. It goes through it's procedures and eventually reconnects the network. Sometimes it says "Connection Very Good" other times "Low" or even "Very Low". Several minutes later, it will do the same thing again and I go through the same procedure again. This might happen several more times then it will be okay. There are days where it never happens at all and then there are days where it happens every 10 minutes or so. It also seems to happen more at night for some reason. How can I eliminate this problem?

A:Unable to Connect to Wireless Network

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool. Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.
Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Win7 install went perfect. Loving it so far.

Came home and hooked up to wireless network. I can see my server and the 5 shared folders available. But I am unable to connect to any of them. Each time it says
"Windows cannot access \\server\storage"
"You do not have permission to access \\server.....

Any ideas?

FYI Yes I have network discovery on etc etc. These ARE password protected folders, but it's not even prompting me for a user/pass. When I attempt to Create a network drive and use different credential which is an account on that machine it says "it's currently mapped using a different username and password"

Thank you
--Anec

A:Unable to connect to network shares

Check permissions on the remote machine for the folders that can not be accessed. Give permissions to "everyone." Click permissions as in my screenshot.

Map the drives using an admin account's user/pass from remote machine, by choosing to connect with different credentials as you've said.

Reboot the remote machine if you're still having problems. It will rid of that currently mapped error. If it doesn't, go on remote machine and allow more users to connect to the remote folders. For each one. Same place where you grant "everyone" permission.

have you installed any software with fake networking such as virtual box recently? also, have you fiddled with the wireless network adapter settings? I did so and it messed up all connections :/
also, may sound like a dumb quetion, but have you accidentally flicked a wireless switch or pressed a button on the laptop that turns it off?
