Suddenly my genuine Windows is showing up as NOT Genuine

Q: Suddenly my genuine Windows is showing up as NOT Genuine

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

Another thing...every time I start IE (I have to use it for school) or Firefox I get a popup message at the bottom of my screen saying that the temp log file is corrupt and to run chkdsk (see above for how that goes). It may or may not be related to this issue as well.

Ran Malwarebytes but all it came up with was a false positive (I have the log ready to send anyway).

I don't know if my problems are related to my stupid pro-click of what was obviously a malicious file or not, but it seems that everything started going to bleep around that point.

From Microsoft .............Check your validation status by going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validateIf that fails, go to the diagnostics page at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and see what it has to say.

I have an older workstation, bought with Vista, and upgraded to Win7 Ultimate. Upgrade was bought via the MS store several years ago (I occasionally get coupons from work to buy stuff). I don't use this box all that much but the other day I went to patch it and it told me that my copy wasn't genuine. The error I get after having it try to is that some files are damaged or missing. Not really interested in rebuilding this box from scratch though I guess that's an option. Below is the output from MGADiag. I'm guessing that my issue is this "Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\drivers\spsys.sys". I ran SFC which did not find any integrity violations. Am I down to copying this file over from elsewhere? Is this file unique per system or to a version of Windows 7? I have access to other systems but not to win7 32bit. My upgrade media is buried somewhere so may not be easily found.

Thanks!
Tim

Hello,

Since a couple of days my windows 7 show me a popup with a warning about not being genuine. I have my laptop (Sony) since 8 months or so, and the copy of windows is the OEM license that was installed on the laptop when I bought it (it was new).

I ran the diagnostic tool and this is the report that I got:

Hi,

On March 1, 2010 I purchased a key for Windows 7 Home 64. Built the computer, jumped through all the hoops and have received all the updates Windows has had for it. Got the last update last night. No problems. This afternoon, my wallpaper went black and in the corner of my screen it says "This copy of Windows is not genuine".
I went to the site it sent me to to verify the validity. It had me download the Windows Activation Update.exe. Ran that and it said that they key was not genuine and that the key had been blocked. When it got to the page that said to enter a Windows key, there was no place to put said key, but it did give me an offer to purchase it for $109.
I am trying to figure out if the problem is Windows and the key really isn't valid, or if I have acquired a virus. Any help would be appreciated. Below is my HijackThis log.
Peace and blessings,
Julie

There has been 33 people looking at this post. I assure you that I am not joking about this problem. If there's any knowledge of a virus it could possibly be, it would be great to know because I am kind of freaking out. My husband's job is fixing the computer, and he's out of town for two weeks, so help please!! Thank you so much.

I turned my PC which had a valid working Windows XP operating system and suddenly it said it wasn't genuine. Got a black screen with a logo on the right bottom stating that I may have been a victim of software counterfeiting and that my copy was not genuine. I downloaded "removewga"program I found online and it removed the logo on the desktop but I cannot get Microsoft Security Essentials to validate, resolve nor function properly.

I downloaded the WGDiag program and here is what is says. Please assist!!! (BTW will a System Restore to a earlier or previous date work?)

Okay. I built this PC myself. It was built around 5 months ago. I installed Windows 7, and it said it was perfectly genuine and everything. I bought this on eBay from a person with 99% Positive feedback and with 2300 stars, so I'm sure it isn't pirated. Now randomly I have a black wallpaper and in the bottom right corner it says Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine. I've scanned the computer fully for viruses with AVG and Malware with Malwarebytes, and found no problems. I also have a report here.

A:Windows 7 Suddenly Not Genuine?!

The "00359-233" in the Windows Product ID indicates your copy of Windows is a not-for-resale MSDN version. Whoever sold it to you did so illegally, so you need to contact the seller and demand a refund. I would not accept a replacement key which too may be illegal.

I bought a Gateway DX4200-09 Desktop on Ebay Apr 18, 2014 from a third-party seller. I've emailed the seller, but no response yet.

My copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is suddenly not genuine. Windows support couldn't help without the 25-digit product key. Gateway support won't help because my product is out of warranty.

Can you help? Thanks in advance.

A:Suddenly, Windows 7 is not genuine

The installed Product Key is one that is ONLY valid on machines pre-installed with Windows 7 by the manufacturer.
Your machine was manufactured a year before windows 7 was released, and can NOT support such a Key.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key - or demand a refund from the vendor. (or both!)

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.
Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start >All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Postback with a new MGADiag report.

(Note:the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it maybe broken in the Forum listing)

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

Hi, I upgraded the HD on my HP Elitebook 8540w laptop. WIndows 7 Premium, OEM, from HP, system still under warranty. No problems for a couple weeks after the upgrade, then Windows is suddenly not valid. It is wierd. The System Properties shows Windows is Valid. But Windows Update and Microsoft Security Essentials will not update. The online check at Microsoft fails.

I loaded the Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool to see if you had any other ideas.

Was faced with this issue after turning on an HP G61 laptop today - it was fine yesterday. The computer was purchased new four years ago from PC World. Nothing has been downloaded or installed in the last couple of months except LastPass (around three weeks ago).
A System Restore to a week ago made no difference. I extracted the Windows product key with SIW (the sticker on the bottom of the laptop has worn away) and re-entered it to no avail. We have the recovery discs that we made when it was new out of the box, but don't want to use them if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,
I created an account because I need specific help with this problem.

Recently, I suddenly got a "Build 7601 - This copy of Windows is not genuine" on my Acer laptop. I have been using it for two years and this is the first time it happened.

I've been searching everywhere on the internet and this MGA report seems to be important in determining the problem.

Hi! I found your forum while trying to find a fix for why my version of Windows 7 was suddenly not genuine after having this computer for 8 months.

I bought the computer from TigerDirect in January 2012. It is a CyberPower Inc computer running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit edition. On Sunday, my roommate turned the computer on to have the validation error message. At the same time, Windows has 4 critical security updates it is trying to make but keeps failing on - 3 are security updates (KB2705219, KB2712808, and KB2731847) and one for IE9 for windows 7 64 bit systems (KB2722913). Every time we turn the computer off and on, it tries to make these updates and fails.

I ran malwarebytes to be sure I don't have malware causing the problem. I tried to do a system restore, but the system fails every time it tries. There was a thread that suggested trying rsop.msc, but my computer doesn't have that available. another suggestion looked at the registry editor users/1-5-20 (something like that), but that didn't work either. I saw a third suggestion on deleting a certain update, but can't find that one now that I restarted my system.

I ran the MGADaig.exe tool and got the results below. One interesting thing I noted is that when the tool ran, the product key listed agreed with the product key on the service tag on the side of the computer; however, when I go to control panel/system security/system and look at the key listed there, it doesn't agree. The system will not let me chang... Read more

Maybe a stupid question but, did you restart your PC after installing the update?

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the KB3024777 update and reinstalling it. Then reboot.

Ensure KB3004394 is not installed.

What I think to have caused the problem is in this previous thread:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1052878-solved-iconcache-db-missing.html

You guys asked me to make a new thread, so.

Anyway, after doing that last fix and booting the computer the next day, I got an error saying I may be a victim of software counterfitting, followed by a black wallpaper with a not genuine message at the bottom right. I need to get it working again so I can get updates, and I've lost my Windows 7 Home Premium key which makes this all the more difficult to fix with normal tech support from Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure since it was caused by that registry file (I do believe so) that you guys would know best how to undo this.

I have a little Toshiba netbook. We have used it around the house for years now as a secondary computer. I have been literally using it for years with no problems. Yesterday it ran a Windows Update and restarted the computer. Now the desktop is black with the message

Windows 7
Build7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine.

I have the product key. So I figured, what the hell, I'll try and activate. I clicked to activate and I entered my product key. It tried to activate but said "something went wrong." Furthermore, there is NO OPTION in my activation options for the over-the-phone activation. And when I click "contact Microsoft for help", I get an error from windows help that it is unable to download from the website (whatever that means).

Anyway, here's my information from the MGADIAG report.

A:Windows 7 Professional Suddenly not Genuine anymore

Where did you download that version of MGADiag from? - it's 4 years out of date!
This makes it very difficult to properly analyse the results.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

I've been running Win7 Professional (64-bit) for about 2 years, and keeping up to date with Windows Update several times per week. For the past few days, some of my cloud services have been (inconsistently) failing to automatically log in and have been prompting me to do so when I boot up. And starting yesterday, my computer hung for a few moments (pointer with spinning Aero on a black screen) before starting to load my desktop. It did the same thing again today, only this time instead of finally loading my wallpaper, it kept the background my solid color.

Suddenly today, it's decided my system software isn't the real deal, even though it is. I tried doing what was suggested here, but it didn't do any good. When I try to re-type my product key, I get Error Code 0x80070426. I even tried doing the phone activation, and it SEEMED to accept my input, but after another reboot, it's still telling me I'm counterfeit.

Edit: When I turn on my computer, the system greets with me a message that says my "activation period has expired" with code 0xC004F009. Also, I have no sound anymore because the system thinks I don't have any kind of audio device installed.

Edit 2: My audio system has spontaneously re-asserted itself. I don't know if that means it was an unrelated problem, but I still can't validate my copy of Windows.

It's starting to get really frustrating. Could anyone please help me?

Thank you.

Here's the log...it says files tampered with but I compared them to another computer and they are fine.

thanks for any help

Hello.
I recently received the "Windows 7 Build 7601" message. Like others, my screen is black with the exception of the shortcut icons. But, I can still access programs. The PC was custom built last February and was validated by windows when build was completed. This problem only surfaced after I replaced a faulty motherboard.

Not sure what happened...a few months ago my windows got seriosuly corrupted and I had to reinstall using e-machines restore cd. I got it working a few months ago, had all the updates, even updated it for the umpteenth time a few days ago...now i turn it on to a message saying i have a fake copy of windows!

What's also weird is now i can't go to a lot of pages that woud be helpful...I clicked on the windows message and when i hit the link to contact microsoft about it it won't load...same thing happens when i try to contact e-machines or use their online tech support (java based window) or hotmail or yahoo mail...it just brings up a blank page or says it could not be displayed

This weekend, I bought and installed a new SSD into my computer. I re-installed my Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 OEM) onto it, (fresh install, no migrate) and immediately formatted my mechanical HDD.

I went into my BIOS and changed boot priority. (I set it to CD first, because I was re-installing from the disc, followed by my SSD.) I changed BIOS Drive positions, with my SSD as #1 and HDD as #2.

On my Mobo, my SSD is plugged into SATA3 Port #1. My HDD is plugged into SATA2 Port #1.

As soon as I got Windows installed, I started re-installing programs, setting up my admin account, and generally resetting my system, theme, Rainmeter, etc. Then I started getting messages that I wasn’t running Genuine Windows. I clicked the “Resolve Online” button, and downloaded the authenticator software, which told me I needed to buy a copy of Windows.
This irritated me, because I am running a key I bought legitimately, and I have the packaging and CoA.

Including the little (~100 MB) System partition with the Master Boot Record? If not, I'm guessing that when you re-installed Windows 7 it simply added the new installation to the MBR w/o caring whether the original installation really still existed.

I've gotten that "not genuine" message a couple times after an update, but the online resolution has always worked for me. You have tried that again, right?

Hi,

After reading a few posts about this issue and trying to fix it, it seems it hasn't resolved.

I have read a lot of NoelDP's comments, so would love one of your 'easy fix' replies rather than the one or two 'reinstall!' replies.

I loaded up my computer yesterday and it showed me barebones non-Aero desktop with none of my icons, etc. The sound was not working. Failed to connect to windows service errors were showing in the taskbar.

I restarted and it seemed to work fine.

After a while my a message in the taskbar told me my windows was not genuine.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have started my computer up again this morning and it's showing from the start that it's not genuine.

I have entered my Key in to SLUI.exe 4, and it seems to have activated for now. The results below are from AFTER this activation and that means the computer is looking quite fine right now. I will restart and post another MGADiag if it comes up as not genuine again.

Anyway, I think this is what you need. The MGADiag.exe results:

Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine has a Windows XP Home Edition machine running Service Pack 2. She called me along this afternoon because she has been having problems with the machine for several weeks! Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. There is also an icon in her system tray area (right hand side) which refers to the non-genuine windows message and tells her to clickon it to resolve the non-genuine Windows problem.

The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

She also has problems with IE (think it is V8) whereby it comes up with an error aft... Read more

I have a MSDNAA account where I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 Pro, so its genuine, but when my computer is idle for sometime, in the lower right corner of the screen, sometimes appears the "not genuine" text with "evaluation copy etc etc". I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop suddenly has decided Windows is not Genuine. I put in the number on the bottom of the laptop and it says it is verified and good. But then after a while it goes back to saying it is not Genuine. I am out of the country at the moment, and I need to fix this in the meantime. I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. Bought it brand new. I do have virus protection but I am beginning to wonder if this is a virus? Or something like that? You would think that after entering the right number and getting the yes this is valid that it would be fine?

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Thanking you in advance,

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

Code:

HealthStatus Bitmask Output:
Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slcext.dll|slcext.dll.mui
I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Thanks.

A:My software suddenly stopped being genuine

If you use original Toshiba recovery image (preinstalled Vista version) something like this should not happen. You can use this recovery image so often you want but it will always be activated version.
With your notebook you have also paid valid licence for preinstalled Vista.

What to do?
Use recovery DVD and install Vista again.

It's an HP computer that originally had Windows 7 Home but it was upgraded to Windows 7 Pro about 2 years ago. It's now showing that Windows isn't genuine. It seems to have happened after installing an update, but I'm not positive. It had Symantec Endpoint installed but I removed that once I started troubleshooting.

I tried the fix where I stop sppsvc, rename tokens.dat to tokens.bar, and then start sppsvc. When I run slui.exe I get a Software Licensing window that says Windows isn't genuine, go online and validate. If I try that it fails and advises me to purchase Windows.

If I run slui.exe 3 at that point and enter the 7 Pro upgrade product key, I get Error 0xC004F061, this product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations.

Any advice that will avoid having to re-install and re-upgrade would be much appreciated.

A:7 Pro Upgrade suddenly not genuine (0xC004F200)

You have he Default Key for Windows 7 Pro installed - which can never be activated.

What type of Upgrade Key do you have? A full retail one with disks, or an Anytime Upgrade?

If it's a Full Upgrade, then a repair install will work (with a bit of fiddling).
If it's an Anytime Upgrade, that option isn't open to you, and you'll have to either do a clean install of Home followed by an upgrade, or see if MS Activation support can help (I don't know if they will or not).

Let me know, and we'll proceed from there.

This weekend, I bought and installed a new SSD into my computer. I re-installed my Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 OEM) onto it, (fresh install, no migrate) and immediately formatted my mechanical HDD.

I went into my BIOS and changed boot priority. I also changed BIOS Drive positions, with my SSD as #1 and HDD as #2.

As soon as I got Windows installed, I started re-installing programs, setting up my admin account, and generally resetting my system, theme, Rainmeter, etc.

During boot, I get a message that asks me to choose OS - Windows 7, or Windows 7. It starts a 30s timer, then chooses the highlighted option and boots normally.

Then I started getting messages that I wasn?t running Genuine Windows. I clicked the ?Resolve Online? button, and downloaded the authenticator software, which told me I needed to buy a copy of Windows.
This irritated me, because I am running a key I bought legitimately, and I have the packaging and CoA.
I called MS Tech Support. I spoke with a very helpful gentleman. He checked out my product key. He had me activate my product, which I hadn?t done on my new install yet, and I got a ?Genuine? tag to appear under the Windows Experience Rating in ?My Computer>Properties?. He said I was good to go.

Now, 48hrs later, I?m getting the "Not Genuine" message again. I have a screenshot of Windows claiming to be Genuine and Not Genuine at the same time. (See Attached photo.) I have installed a lot of updates since my re-inst... Read more

Hope someone can offer me some advice please. I got asked to look at a relative's laptop which for a few months has been reporting that the copy of Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit is not genuine. The laptop originally had Vista Home Basic on it and he had it repaired and updated to Win 7 Home Premium by someone he knew. It was fine for about 2-3 years then apparently a few months ago started reporting Windows is not genuine.

Below is the MGADiag

Many thanks.

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

I recently downloaded SP1 to my Windows 7 machine and shortly thereafter a message appeared on the lower right hand corner indicating that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine". I bought this machine used and so I verified the key with Microsoft and it is a genuine OEM key but try as I may there is nowhere to enter a product key. I go to start-computer-right click- and at the bottom under Windows Activation it states Status: Not Available - Product ID: Not Available and NO place to enter a product key. Also all of the DOS commands that I can find on the Net do not seem to work either. When I contact Microsoft support they are no help at all and tell me I need to do a CLEAN install with the disk that came with my machine. The only problem is that no disk came with this machine. I have also been told by "Tech support" since I have an OEM key I just cannot use ANY install win 7 disk. I have a TON of Apps. loaded on this machine and it TICKS me off that I have a VALID OEM key and seemingly no way to enter or fix which I suspect is a Microsoft bug to begin with as they have overshot to prevent piracy. Someone Please help!

A:My Genuine activation issue although I have a genuine license

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

I built a computer and activated Windows 7 Pro on it. I used it occasionally for about one year, with no difficulties. Then I made some hardware changes. I added a solid state disk and moved the OS to it. I removed several small HDs that I had used only to verify that all the ports on the MB worked. I added a 2TB disk. A few hours or days later I got the black screen and the not genuine messages.

I have tried several means to make the system appear appear legal to MS, including some from here. They all seem to be doing something, but all end with error code C004E003, licensing service reported that license evaluation failed.

I suspect that the source of the W7pro software is related to this problem, perhaps as a cause, but at least as a complication. I bought it on eBay from someone that claimed he put Linus on his new Dell
computer without ever booting the W7pro that was installed at Dell. Before buying, I checked on the web and that seemed to be a fairly common and legal approach. The DVD arrived in a sealed envelope with a Dell bar code and part number. A smaller sealed envelope attached to it had the license key inside.

After trying all the claimed fixes I could find, I called Microsoft Activation center at 888-352-7140. They admit it is MS software that set the bit in a DB that causes C004E003. They either can not, or will not tell me what is wrong that caused the bit to be set. They also say that only Dell can unset the bit.

So I called Dell. I talked... Read more

A:Activated fine for one year, now suddenly not genuine

Hi Chuck,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its a non-genuine install, you were sold a pup

Your very first words "i built a computer"
Means that the only types of product key you can use legitamately are
OEM System Builder
Retail

You have a OEM only key, for use solely on Factory built models.
The product ID data, i believe, was for use on demo machines.

MS picked it up as non genuine when you started swapping your HDD's/SSD's
There is no way you can check to see if a 25 character key is genuine or not UNTIL its been on a comp for roughly 90 days, when MS performs a major genuine check.
The slmgr/rearm you used will only work another 2 times.

Two months ago, I got a sudden notification that my Windows wasn't genuine. I had been required to run that check before and it was always fine, a waste of time, but no problem. This time, it ran itself while I was away from the computer and the bad news was waiting on the screen. After that, the Windows Update has not worked.

My Computer properties doesn't allow re-entry of the CoA code (which I have), but says that windows is OEM. My factory warranty has expired a long time ago.

Windows Update shows a red shield with an X and says that the Windows update service is not running. I did the first group of things that were proposed for SimpleSimon above. Stopped bit service, crypto service and wuaug(?) service, renamed the update log in c:\windows, and rebooted. Same thing exactly. Pardon me if I didn't remember the spellings. I followed the instructions to the letter at the time, however.

I have purchased a ton of software and do not want to reinstall everything, even if I were somehow able to find it all... I'm not a software pirate.

Hey!

So today when I turned on my computer I was unable to go online, "website not available - DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" I believe i found flat in the ipconfig files as going to cmd and doing anything with ipconfig send the application error, (0xc0000022). while I'm trying to fix this i noticed that on the bot left screen the words "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine." are there - this version of windows is genuine and has been sense i got this pc in 2011. anyways Im lost. the main thing I need to fix is inter webs access.

oh yeah, also malwarebytes failed to start up for me to check for viruses but i believe i was able to fix that when I ran winthresher.

Steps taken;
-unplug replug of Computer, modem, router
-sfc /scannow
-winthresher DLed on different computer.
-a few hours of the Chrome dinosaur run
-Download ipconfig.dll files online
-MSCONFIG

Update: using the MSCONFIG i disabled all services on boot but the Microsoft ones, and stopped all start up apps, restarted pc and now the wallpaper is solid black

Hello
I am helping a friend clean up her laptop and there are a number of issues I can not seem to work out on my own. I have Googled the issues she is having and it seems my only solution is to edit the registry files on a command line basis which is risky so I figured I would try speaking with you geniuses first. :)

She has a Compaq Presario CQ56 which came with a legitimate copy of Windows 7 (She even kept the sticker on it to the right of the track pad) but a month or two ago, it suddenly started telling her that she is not running a genuine copy of Windows. Her wallpaper is black with a 'not genuine' watermark in the bottom right corner, her start menu items are all gone and she gets notices about security center not being able to work until she buys a new copy of Windows.

Aside from that, I have found that using Internet Explorer (her default browser) to search for Microsoft's Malware Remover tool always redirects to a different web page for some malware/trojan removers or Norton's web page etc etc.

Lastly her track pad seems to tard out a lot. It seems that after a few minutes, you are only allowed the very left most half-inch of track pad to move the cursor and anything beyond that to the right just brings up this crappy miniature scroll bar.

I have installed and updated both Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and run full scans of each in Safe mode as well as the 64 bit version of Microsoft's Malware removal tool. Malwarebytes initially showed me 2 re... Read more

I don't think that the problem is related to the one from the CBS.log - but there are tools that can deal with it, which we'll get to later.

For the MGADiag problem...

Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slui.exe|slui.exe.mui|COM Registration

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories ? then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight ? select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left ? select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

I'm sorry if this is on the wrong forum section.

Some weeks ago I activated my Windows 7 Ultimate 64b and it worked perfectly. But now my computer is nagging about my copy of windows not being genuine. This message keeps popping constantly since yesterday.

How can I make it disappear and never show up again?

A:"Your Windows isn't Genuine" how can I make this message stop showing?

The last time it happened to me - I removed the last few Windows Updates, and Windows became genuine again. Do you know if a few Windows Updates got in just before this message began appearing?

[By few WUs, I mean I ran a concocted batchfile, restarted, no more non-genuine problems. There can be a price to pay, one has to have current OS partition backups - just before the message would be best, 2nd best is just before running this can-be-caustic batchfile.]

When I try to re-activate it, I get an error that it is not a genuine copy. I ran the diagnostic tool, and here's the report pasted below. I hope someone can help me -- thanks in advance for your help!

A:Windows 7 Build 7601: Suddenly "This copy of Windows is not genuine"

You have a Trusted Store Tamper, which may or may not be causing your Key to be seen as counterfeit.
We need to try and find out what's causing the tamper, and fix that, before we can establish whether your key is a problem.

The tamper timestamp - TTS Error: T:20120825145218934- shows the system detected it last at 14:52 on 25 Aug.
please reboot and see if the timestamp changes to the reboot time.

If it does, then we know that the tamper is still active, and the chances are that it's malware (unless you know of any recent installs or driver updates that could be affecting the system?)

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - from www.malwarebytes.org and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OEM pre-installed, it was genuine and had COA on the bottom of laptop.
Accidentally, at that time I was 12 years old, so I don't know about 'crack', 'hack', software counterfeit, etc. . Thus, I thought my Windows was 'low', I want to upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate version with Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I searched key generator (keygen) on internet, I found it and generated the code (for Windows 7 Ultimate). Then, I pasted the serial number (product key) to Windows Anytime Upgrade. First, it was failed. So I cancelled the upgrade. But, when the laptop's shutdown and I turn it on again, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate. How weird!

Now, I know the pirated / not genuine Windows is not safe, against the law, etc.

My question, is, I restored it to the genuine version of my Windows (7 Home Basic OEM) using my product key.
But I downloaded the setup using the Windows 7 Ultimate pirated (using keygen) that I told you...
Is my Windows become 'not genuine'?
After I restored it, It is very good, clean, doesn't contain virus or error, works perfectly. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.
Is it okay? Or I should buy the DVD to perform clean install so it is 100% clean?

Need your opinion, please...
Thanks

I have a laptop purchased several years ago off e-bay with Win 7 installed and it worked fine for well over a year but then I got the " This in not a genuine win 7 blah blah and black screen. It was a little late to return the computer like over a year or more so I have just been using it with ugly accusatory messages and black screen! Ok Microsoft you win, I bought a legit new two DVD 32 and 64 bit Win 7. Since the machine came with the Ultimate version I bought the ultimate version.

Here is what I want to know. How do I substitute this genuine version for my bad version without losing my other programs? I don't want to start all over as I have a whole lot of programs that I want to keep as is. Can I do that?

A:Installing Genuine win 7 over non genuine version

Hello w6k and welcome to Seven Forums.

If everythig is working OK on your computer it should be just a simple matter of changing the invalid Product Key with the PK from your newly purchased disk.

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

I haven't changed the Office software on this machine since well....ever. It's MS Office 2003 Pro. Ran the updates tonight and rebooted as required and when I opened Outlook, I get the message saying that my Office software is NOT the GENUINE thing.
I checked my update history on the MS UPDATE site and it installed a genuine validation tool....yet again. I've never gotten this message before and am wondering why...is this a false positive or did I pick up some kind of virus?

BTW, suddenly, my spysweeper software won't update the definitions saying that the keycode in inactive, but my subscription expires in July 2010.

These to occurrences are why I would even suspect a possib;e virus of some sort. My NOD32 hasn't picked up anything and a spysweeper scan came up clean.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

My computer is telling me my copy of Windows 7 isn't genuine, which is wrong because I installed it with a copy of Windows 7 purchased directly from Microsoft. I recently purchased a 500 GB HDD and cloned my 320 GB HDD over to it, then put the 320GB HDD into my mom's boyfriend's computer, because his was no longer functioning. Then I switched the 500GB HDD out of my broken ASUS G50VT into a Compaq on loan to me from my mom's boyfriend. Now I can't turn on my anti-virus software and the computer is telling me my OS isn't genuine. Does anyone know what's wrong and / or how to fix it?

Recently i installed a new update that made me take a test to see if my copy of windows was genuine or not, and i didn't pass the test, having this message come up:

This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation.

The product key found on this computer is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked.

Now, i know exactly what a VLK key is, i know how they work. I had my computer built for me from a friend of a friend of the family back in 2006 (very shortly after Vista came out), he knows what he's doing as he does technical work for a number of companies.

From the day i had the computer built in 2006 up until yesterday, my computer was perfectly fine and windows recognized it as the genuine copy of XP that it is. When i searched for a resolution to this problem on the Microsoft website all they said was this:

The Windows product key installed on this computer is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked. A VLK is typically licensed to organizations that want to use multiple copies of Windows. However, if a VLK is reported as stolen or leaked, it is blocked from passing validation and is not considered genuine.
You or your organization may be a victim of software counterfeiting if:
You received a computer with a VLK, but you do not have a Volume License Agreement with Microsoft, or
Your organization purchased a VLK from a 3rd party but does not have a Volume License Agreement with Microsoft.

I click on their link to resolve the issue but non of my browsers will take it - uncluding the lastest IE.
I am still able to get Windows Updates.

Help if you can please.

I notice the first image below appears before the second one.
I bought my pc as brand new over five years ago.
Or is this a ploy by Microsoft to try to get me to upgrade to Win10 - something I will never do with my current pc running Win7.

No. While they may nag you, they do not make your current OS not genuine.

Did you reinstall your operating system? When was it last working properly and did you install anything between that time and the time that you started getting that window? Did you just install Microsoft Updates?

You have to give as much info as you can.

A:Windows 7 is not genuine

Your installation of Windows 7 Ultimate is counterfeit.
While everything 'matches', so far as I can see, Windows has discovered the presence of a hacker's Activation Exploit.

For which version and edition of Windows is this machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)??

You will need to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and Key - preferably the manufacturer's proper Recovery media for your machine.
