Q: malwarebytes,speed test popup in lower left, and another popup in lower right of

I've been having popups in the lower left and right of my pc. I ran malwarebytes and the popups still persist. I thought I needed to remove the 5 things that it quaranitned so I did as was still getting these things. Now the internet explorer screens look different. mostly white. It is hiding areas that can be clicked but I knwo they are there because the pointer goes from an arrow to the hand when I acroll over. the worst thing is that the popups are still there. Not sure where to go or what to do. Your site helped me on another issue I had in the past. Oh I tried system restore and it didnt help the screen..I think the only system restore point was after all the above.
thanksMod Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to a more appropriate forum. ~bloopie

Hi,

when Win8 boots up to Start menu I position mouse cursor to lower-left corner. But the popup icon for switching to desktop does not show anymore. I have to right-click and choose Desktop. I have Win8 about a week, and I'm not sure what I changed so that the popup icon does not show anymore... Any help would be appreciated

A:Lower left popup icon

Hello Morte, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This would be normal when Windows 8 is first started up since nothing (including the desktop) has been run yet. The pop-up is part of the Switcher that let's you switch between opened apps. Since the Desktop is considered an app, it doesn't show up in the Switcher until after the Desktop has been opened for the first time.

If you like, I find using the method in the tutorial below helps to make it easier to get to the desktop.

Hope this helps,

Occasionally i get redirects as well. I ran a malwarebytes quick and full scan and got nothing, a Microsoft security essentials scan and got nothing, and a adwcleaner scan and got nothing. I saw some other people had this problem, even on this website but they used combofix, which i'm not suppose to use unless told to. So yeah, hope you guys can help :3. I keep getting these annoying ads pop-up in the lower right corner of my browser. And about once every ten clicks of any link on any website, my browser gets redirected to a completely different site. I browsed thru here and every answer seems to be different, so I figured I would post the problem too. I'm running Firefox 12 on Windows XP. I tried to run the DDS.scr, but after installing it and running it, it keeps getting hung up and I have to restart my computer. It happens EVERY time. In fact, I can't even use the cntl-alt-del feature when it hangs. So I don't know what to do now.

On many websites that I navigate to I have ads that pop-up in the lower right corner of my screen. The ads sometimes look like an iphone/ipod touch and other times they are just a square. While the ad is up and when I click on a link on the current website I am on I am often (but not always) redirected to a website which usually matches the ad that had popped up on the screen. Once I hit the back button and then click on the link I wanted again, I do get correctly directed to the link I was trying to navigate to in the first place.

Hello, I've been experiencing some problems with ads in lower left and right hand corners of my browser screen. I've also had random redirects to sites that I am not clicking on. I'm not sure if these two symptoms are related. I've browsed the forums here and found a few posts with similar symptoms. After reading through this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/454045/pop-up-ad-redirect-virus/ I thought I'd try walk through the fix, or at least get the necessary data logs to ask for help here. While running the aswMBR my computer crashed and displayed a blue screen. I've just restarted and am now hesitant about beginning anew by myself. Please help.

well, recently i got the alienGUIse thingy because i liked the themes, so i hated the windows 7 theme therefore i went ahead and used the vista theme, that didnt work out too well and since i didnt know how to reset the "theme" to default, i clicked an option to resort to a vista looking theme, which looked pretty similar to windows 7. then, i attempted to remove Stardock and the rest of all that by going into program files and clicking on Uninstall.exe. it later popped up saying it wasint installed right, i just closed that seeing as how a bunch of stuff was deleted. i restarted and deleted the file off of programfiles and i immediately saw that all my shortcuts on desktop had the Installed_programs icon on the lower left hand corner. i later went to deocuments and i saw that there were a bunch od desktop.ini files everywhere, inwhich i proceeded to delete them but curious me, i read one and it headead towards shell32.dll and imageres(32?).dll, in those dll's i found that some of the alienware theme icons were located there, and soon i started seeing folders with those icons. Later, i went to regedit and deleted all the files i found that had stardock and i went to starup repair and nothing changed. oh and some files have the admin needed shield for no reason also.

please, help me.

Hi!
I don't think I be able to help you in this problem. But I learned from my own experience, this forum and other forums that creating a system restore point manually is a good way to restore things when we experiment something new unless the volume Shadow Copy or system restore point(s) being deleted.

The Start button in lower-left corner of screen/desktop is not responding to left click.
Is there something an amateur can do?
hofkar.

A:Start button lower left corner of screen

Assuming RIGHT click at Start button still works ?..................

Run a system file check to look for corrupt files. It will try to do repair if any found.

Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
sfc /scannow

> press Enter.
It will take quite sometime.
When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.
If the report is #3, use this method................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

I just bought an Envy m7-n109dx and fresh out of the box the touchpad seems to be depressed on the lower left. I would imagine this is supposed to be flush with the rest of the laptop? Can anyone please confirm this? I've already returned it once for this issue. They just swapped it out. Needing to know if I got another bad one or this is normal on this model. Thanks in advance!

A:Is touchpad supposed to be lower on bottom left? Not flush.

Hey @Wej1,My laptop has that same depression in the bottom left. Not sure if it's meant to be there for anything special, or if it's just part of the design however, you're not the only one as several of the laptops we have here also have a depression on the lower left of the touchpad. I am unsure why this is, but it seems to be consistent with most of them. Please keep me posted. You can always say thanks by hitting the Thumbs Up button below!Cheers.

Hello

I was curious to know. I heard there could be firmware preinstalled that forbids low write speeds. I'm trying to achieve 4x

I burn with DiscJuggler. It reports 30x-40x speeds, despite setting 4x everywhere in it. I'm using Sony blanks.. or could they be the conflict ?

My friend said to try Nero DiscSpeed.. to hopefully lower the drive's minimum write speed.. I set 4x here and there (been a while), but it did no difference.

Could this be somewhere I have to hunt down in the BIOS ?

My drive is a..

hp dvd-ram gh40l scsi cdrom device (Device Manager)

SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology drive (PC specs page)

Please assist

A:Lower CD-R write speed ?

I do a lot of Audio CD burning as I have a recording studio. I use 8X as my audio CD burn speed "standard". This allows compatibility with almost all audio CD players. I've been using the 8X for about 10 years and have burned hundreds of audio CD-R's and have never had a CD come back as "unplayable" or "skipping". I only use JVC-Taiyo Yuden "Professional" ink jet printable CD-R blanks, but the brand does not dictate the burn speed, its the drive.

The burn speeds are hardware dependent. e.g. most SATA CD/DVD burners will only go do wn to 16X (except one model LG CD/DVD burner). PATA (IDE) burners of recent production will go down to 8X for audio CD burning. Although there may be some software utility that will change/lower speeds, I havent found one. I have Nero and use Nero Burning ROM for all my CD Burning. I have a bank of 5 USB connected PATA burners that I use for my CD production.

With CD burning software, you must have a CD-R blank loaded in the drive BEFORE you attempt to burn, so you can set the burn speed. If you try to set the burn speed first, without a disc in the drive it will only default to its highest burn speed.

Other recording engineers, that I've talked to on recording forums agree on the 8X speed.

The only CD burner drives that I know that will burn at 4X are very old (obsolete/out of production) PATA (IDE) drives. The last one I had was one that came with a Windows 98 PC.

Hello friends, i have been having problems with my laptop for a while now.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop using Windows 8, i have had it for a while now and it used to work perfectly until recently, it started to give me way less internet speed than what i am currently paying for, even if there are no other devices connected to the internet, it only gives me around 3 mbps, compared to the 10 i'm paying for.
When i connect with other devices to my internet it gives me normal internet speed.
I have used speedtest to check my download and upload speed in this laptop to compare it with my other devices, they all give me around 12 or 13 mbps download, and when i use the exact same test on this one i end up having around 3 mbps with fluctuating results. (The test was made at the same distance from the router in all the devices).
I have tried a lot of things people have recommended to fix this problem with no positive results. I'm stressing out
I was wondering if somebody could give me a hand in trying to fix this problem. Thanks in advance!

I already tried safe mode with networking so i assume it's not about viruses or my antivirus. Here's from a tcp/ip analyzer

TCP options string = 020405840103030101010402
MTU = 1452
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.
MSS = 1412
MSS is not optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 65536
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits (scale factor: 2^1=2)
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 32768

RWIN is not fully optimized (even though it is a comparatively large number). The unscaled RWIN value is lower than it should be. Also, RWIN being close to and above 65535 does not justify the header overhead of enabling TCP 1323 Options. You might want to use one of the recommended RWIN values below.

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
64952 (up to 2 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 46)
129904 (1-5 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 46 * 2)
259808 (2-14 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 46 * 2^2)
519616 (8-30 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 46 * 2^3)
1039232 (25-60 Mbit lines depending on latency. MSS * 46 * 2^4)

A large gray bar at the bottom of my laptop screen is really annoying me. The two red leaf-like things are also appearing at the lower left corner of the screen. IT APPEARS FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN THE POWER IS ON. I can't take a screen shot of this bar! It doesn't work with Ctrl+Alt+Print screen. In screen shot, everything is normal(NO BAR). So, i think this is not a graphic problem. It covers the whole start menu bar. So, i take a photo manually with a camera. Here it is:

Hello, so I have this problem which occured 2 months ago. My CPU is running lower than 2.00 ghz (which is the minimal speed it should run). My processor is Intel Core i7-4510U.I've done everything possible. My power plan is on high perfomance, my laptop is not overheating.I ran CPU-Z and I see my CPU speed changing from 2.5 to 1.5 ghz and even lower. If you need more information to help me please ask.

Hello there. Several months back I reinstalled Windows XP onto a family laptop with an Athlon X2 dual core processor and 2GB of RAM. While I was at it I also introduced Kaspersky Internet Security. As I don't use the machine in question as my primary device, I did not have to suffer through months of sluggish performance like my family members did. I finally got a little smarter about it and tinkered with the settings for Kaspersky. After disabling a few features, and setting some scanner settings from "regular" to "low," speed is finally somewhere near acceptable. The main question I have is, have I lowered the security to an unacceptable level?

I have IE7 on my JNCS custom computer (Intel mobo w/E8400 Intel Core 2 duo running @ 3GHz, 2GB RAM) and just yesterday, installed Firefox (latest 3.x version). My Internet connection is via cable modem; ISP is Comcast.net.

I use Speakeasy to test my down/up load speeds and because I'm on the East Coast, choose San Francisco for the test server because it's far away and gives more believable speeds.

This morning, I tested both IE and FF. While the download speeds are about the same (12-13mbps), the upload speeds are WILDLY different. IE upload speed is typically 8mbps, while FF's upload speed is only 1.3 mbps -- 1/6 the IE upload speed.

Why is FF so much slower? I tried disabling all of the add-ons for FF and tested the speed after disabling each one, but it matters not whether they're enabled or disabled.

Hello.

My internet speed is getting lower than usual. In my contract it says my download speed is 1 Mb/s. That speed was working for me for a half a year. A few days ago my speed starts getting lower and lower. Four days ago my download speed droped from 1 Mb/s to 550 Kb/s. Today it droped to 350 Kb/s. I don't understand why and what can i do about it. The first thin i did was disable my wifi and see what happens. What happened was nothing. After that i lunched Resource Monitor and clicked of Network tab. There were no big thing that used my internet. I asked my internet provider, they say that the error must be on my side...Any advice what can i try to resolve this error?

A:Internet speed lower than usual

Connect directly to the ISP's modem. Run a link test and see what you get. If its 1Mb/sec or close to it then the problem is in your wireless router. However, if the speed is still slow then its the ISP's problem (assuming the ISP provided the modem - if its your modem then that could be the problem).

I am currently building a system with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor on an Asus P5B mobo and am currently trying to decide on memory. My budget is about £80 and for that I can get a 1gb dual channel set from a good brand like OCZ but I don't know whether I should get 800mhz CL5 memory or 667mhz CL4 memory for the best performance.

Thanks in advance
mrbrownstone

A:Lower latency or higher speed ram?

I don't know much about ram timings and speeds, except for my personal shopping research. I THINK that the 800mhz CL5 ram would be better than the 667mhz CL4, but I really have no idea, hopefully someone else on this forum could give you (and me) a better idea of what to look for in ram timings and clock speeds.
The only advice i can give you is this:
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING
That means know what brand the ram is: is the brand trustworthy. Read the reviews and see what the people who have bought that specific ram think about it. And finally read the description very carefully, many sites can sometimes throught you off on their description of the item.
I only say this because of my endless problems with ram over the years, hopefully you can be more succesfull than me.

Good luck

----Also check what kind of warrenty is offered with the ram.

I found this looking for ways to boost range. If speed is not a concern does decreasing throughput actually increase range. Does this hold true for wireless G also. Could I throttle back from 54 Mbs to increase range.

I started searching for this after I saw specs for a router that showed higher Tx power at 11Mbs and lower Tx at 108Mbs. Couldn't find the exact one I was looking at but it was similar to these specs.

Transmitted Power in dBm:
802.11b: 16.5 ± 1.5dBm (typical)
802.11g: 13.5 ± 1.5dBm (typical)
802.11n: 13.5 ± 1.5dBm (typical)

A:Extend Wireless Range with lower speed???

Hawking Tech has a number of products that will help you increase your wireless range. The root page is Hawking Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Products.

Some of the more interesting products are this Hawking [HSB2] Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster, which can be used on either end of a wireless connection to boost the signal power.

Another way to increase your signal strength is by the use of hi-gain antennas. You can choose from omni-directional or directional models, here are a some examples.

Hawking [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

Hawking [HAI15SC] Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna

[HAO14SD] Outdoor Hi-Gain 14dBi Directional Antenna Kit

For 802.11n applications, this ZyXEL ANT1106 6db omni-directional antenna can be used.

For really long range outdoor applications, this 24dB parabolic WiFi Antenna may be a good choice.

If you have a wireless adapter that doesn't have provisions for an external antenna, one adapter that I've had good luck with is a Rosewill RNX-G1 USB Wireless Adapter. It's feature is that is has a removable antenna and will accommodate replacement antennas.

This is just a sample of available products, many people have hi-gain antennas with similar specifications, but I haven't seen any other suppliers of signal boosters.

hi I have SL9600 which is supposed to be a 2.1Ghz, how come "all cpu meter" gadget is showing only 1579MHz? Is my cpu underclocking itself or is the gadget inaccurate?

A:all CPU meter showing lower clock speed?

you're right - most modern chips do clock themselves down when the full power isn't needed.

it reduces power (as in electricity) use and hence heat buildup, possibly extending lifespan and gives your fans an easier time.

try running a virus scan or something which uses cpu, and you should see it ramp up to max speed.

Provider says I should have 100 mbit/s internet connection. If I connect my notebook directly to Alcatel-Lucent box via ethernet cable, i get 96.4 mbit/s down and about 50 up(i'll post a speedtest pic soon).

If I connect notebook to Lan router directly:

If I connect it to Wi-Fi AP using LAN cable(say, it's the same):

How can I maximize the speed? Ideas?

I always noticed that while windows 8.1 boots maybe faster than win7 in about a second (cant tell the difference without tests), the disk performance is lower than in windows 7, and it actually runs slower (can tell the difference without tests). Running slower by that much isnt normal. These are other threads on the internet about the issue to prove that i'm not alone : Windows 8.1 File System Performance Down Compared to Windows 7
Windows 8.1 slowed SSD performance
Do you notice that ? Maybe anyone found a hack or something to fix it ? While the difference is not very huge and simple users cant tell it, as it guy i'm really concerned about this issue, as thing like this is what i care about, not some invisible start button "issues" or other microsoft madness.

I haven't noticed any drop in speed in my G75VW with Lite on 256GB SSD speeds are the same Win 7 home or win 8.11 pro mc.
Do you have the latest Chipset drivers, IRST, and IME driver installed?
Is Trim working? Are you near capacity? Have you overprovisioned?

Win 8 boot, faster due to hybrid shut down basically sleeping not really shut down. Unless you intentionally shut it down completely on purpose. Then boot times are similar. Mine boots from Cold shut down to Putting in my password in 10 Sec with 7 or 8 and another 20 seconds to load all the crap I'm running in the back ground to full mouse desktop control.

Hello everyone!

This is the first time I've contracted spyware/adware/malware and was unable to fix it on my own. I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on the issue!

Recently, I've had popups appear in the bottom left and right portion of the screen. They don't seem to show up on the Google Home Page/Search page, but they will show up on other sites, sometimes using the data I've searched for. My computer now runs much slower than it should, and I've tried a whole litany of removal programs (Malwarebytes, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, Adware, etc.), and none detect anything. Even trying to run it in safe mode, the spyware still pops up online.

So, I'm really at a loss. If someone can shed some light on this, I'd be extremely grateful. Let me know if further information is needed. Thank you!

I just finished building my computer first time. and started it up and for some reason in the post screen it displays the speed of the ram as only 1066MHz (or something around that) when the kit i have is 1600MHz - OCZ 6GB (3x2GB) 1600MHz Gold 8-8-8-24 tested at 1.65V. It has the right amount of memory listed but not the speed.

do i have to change it manually somewhere? because i changed my memory timings and the ram voltage (from 1.5 to 1.64 -had to do 1.64 as 1.65 wasn't listed) to the correct ones in the MIT (MB intelligent tweeker), as the ones in bios were listed like 7-7-7-16. should i have kept them at theses lower speeds and lower voltage? or would they cause problems being quite low at the lower voltage?

so does anyone know what is going up with the speed listing and timings i should use.

Chrome started out as one of the least memory hungry browsers on the market, but over time, it developed a bit more of an appetite for RAM. Now, however, Google is starting to get back to basics and the latest Chrome release (version 45) focuses on making the browser faster and more efficient.

As the company announced in a blog post today, Chrome 45 includes a number of updates that focus on making Chrome load faster and use less memory. When you restart the browser, for example, and Chrome restores your tabs, the browser will now first open those tabs you most recently looked at, so you can get back to work (or browsing car videos) faster.

That will save a few seconds here and there, but the real updates are in how Chrome now manages memory.

Starting with this update, the browser will recognize when your computer is running low on resources when it?s restoring tabs and then stops restoring them until you actively click to restore them yourself. For the most part, this will likely only affect those of you who regularly have a few dozen tabs open, but if memory usage is a major issue on your machine, then every little megabyte counts (and you should probably look at extensions like The Great Suspender, too).

hi all.

I have 12Gb RAM (4Gb x 3) on triple channel.

checking out CPUZ it shows that tripple channel seems to be running good.

I need some help to determine

1: is my RAM speed set under than sotck value? (SPD tells me that it can be set as 666MHz instead of current 533MHz, without change in voltage); the part number clearly states that the model is 1333Mhz which is double of 666Mhz. Is my RAM running at 1066MHz (double of 533)?

2: also i Attach the memmory tab showing current readings, we have a number which is not the triple of 533MHz (as one would expect with tripple channel). how to interpret these numbers?

3: my BIOS does not show overclocking options; which program should I use to change the memmory speed/multiplyer?

4: which value should I set to have a better interaction with the CPU clockings? (FSBRAM ratio)

Hello friends,
I m very eager to know that whats the actual difference between a Core 2 Duo processor and a Pentium Dual Core processor, other than their proceesing architecture?

According to most benchmarking sites including Tom's Hardware, Core 2 Duo E4300 or 6300 performs better than Pentium Dual Core 820 in almost all benchmarks.....whereas C2D E4300 or E6300(1.8 and 1.86 Ghz respectievely) are having MUCH lower clock speeds than Pentium D 820(2.8Ghz). Why like this???

I have 2 systems, one with C2D E4300 1.86 Ghz and another(from which I am writing this thread) is Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz. But I dont see any MUCH performance difference in reality, although in multi-tasking and gaming C2D system still performs better.

Can anybody please explain me in details.....
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
TheHacker

A:Why Core 2 Duo outperforms Pentium Dual Core even when C2D has lower clock Speed??

The Core 2 Duo doesn't share the same architecture as the older NetBurst architecture of the Pentium D, which is also shared by the Pentium 4. The Pentium D is effectively a pair of Pentium 4 CPUs on one die. The Core 2 Duo architecture allows for a lot more processing to be done in one cycle, hence more information can be pushed in, say, 1 million cycles by the Core 2 Duo than the Pentium D. As for 'reality', there obviously won't be much difference when both systems are used for stuff like playing music etc. But the real differences will show up when you tax them, such as when playing an HD video without a video card supporting HD-decoding where the Core 2 Duo will be able to process information much more quicker than the Pentium D and so you will have a smoother image. Check on Wikipedia for more in-depth details.

A:Malwarebytes-popup

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Malicious Website Blocking (IP Protection) is part of the Protection Module in the Pro version and works after it is enabled. When attempting to go to a potential malicious website, Malwarebytes will block the attempt and provide an alert. An outgoing IP alert indicates that a process on the system tried to load a malicious IP and was prevented from loading content. No action is required unless you're also experiencing malware symptoms or there are multiple IPs. A browser does not have to be running...just an active Internet connection with processes running. Notification that an outgoing IP address has been blocked does not necessarily mean the computer is infected. Some legitimate programs on your computer (i.e. iTunes, Instant Messenger client, SKYPE, P2P software, web browsers) have access to the Internet and that action can trigger an IP alert if it tried to access a malicious IP address. Your firewall should be able to give you a list of such programs so you can confirm if they are legitimate. IP alerts are also triggered by banner ads running on websites.IP Protection is also designed to block incoming connections it determines to be malicious. Botnets and Zombie computers scour the net, randomly scanning a block of IP addresses, searching for vulnerable ports - commonly probed ports and make repeated attempts to access them. Hackers use "port scanning", a popular reconnaissance technique, to search for vulnerable computers with open ports usi... Read more

Your Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log indicates you are using an outdated database version. Please update it through the program's interface (preferable method) or manually download the definition updates and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Then perform a new Quick Scan in normal mode and check all items found for removal. Don't forgot to reboot afterwards. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. When done, click the Logs tab and copy/paste the contents of the new report in your next reply.Your database shows 1979. Last I checked it was 1989.Mbam-rules.exe is not updated daily. Another way to get the most current database definitions if you're having problems updating, is to install MBAM on a clean computer, launch the program, update through MBAM's interface, copy the definitions (rules.ref) to a USB stick or CD and transfer that file to the infected machine. Copy rules.ref to the location indicated for your operating system. If you cannot see the folder, then you may have to Reconfigure Windows to show it.XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareVista: C:\Documents and Settings\Users\All Users\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Hello:

I am having an issue with my Malwarebytes real time protection continually popping up with "Malicious Website Blocked." The identified process is C:\Windows\SysWOW64\svchost.exe

I am using Windows 7.

This is a real annoyance and I'm guessing is an indication of an infection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Malwarebytes Popup SysWOW64

Thanks for the link, but I don't think it worked.

svchost.exe was running in processes in a folder other than System32-- it was running in the syswow64 folder, which the link said was an indication of infection, but none of the anti-malware apps the page told me to run could detect anything. Very strange.

I came home from a business trip yesterday and found that my computer was having a problem with popups. I ran a scan with McAfee and it found several trojan/malware issues, and removed a great deal of them. One that it detected but was unable to remove was "DeluxeCommunications". I searched the web and ran across "combofix.exe" which had been suggested on several boards. I ran it and successfully removed the "DeluxeCommunications" files. However, I still have problems with popups. I've run just about every spyware detection/removal tool I can find, which found & fixed some other issues. However, now they all show up as "clean" but the popups remain. Here's my HijackThis log if someone would be willing to help me. Hello,

Suddenly my computer started getting a popup saying that my computer was being attacked. When I clicked "Yes" to block the attack, I was taken to a fake "AV" Antivirus website asking me to purchase this in order to remove the spyware.

Also, it will not allow me to run MalwareBytes - has a message saying "file infected". Can't run AVG antivirus or AdAware either or the Chrome web browser.

I tried to run HiJackThis and I got the same message saying "Cannot open - file infected".

The specific message of the antivirus is:

"Antivirus Software Alert -
Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan - dropper or similar.
Details: Attack from: <various IPs that change>
Do you want to block this attack? Yes or No"

I cannot run programs that would allow me to take screenshots either - sorry I cannot provide these.

How do I get rid of this???

Here is my system info:

Windows Vista Home
Pentium Dual core cpu T4200 @ 2GHz
3 GB RAM
32 Bit

Thanks in advance.

A:AV Fake Antivirus Popup / Can't run MalwareBytes

Try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then boot into Safe Mode and double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner.

This just happened for the second time in the last 10 days or so and had never occurred before in the 2 years or so that I've been running MBAE.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1.

Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit free version 1.06.1.1019.

Along with MSE and Malwarebytes Premium 2.1.6.1022.

Pale Moon is the browser; version 25.1.0 (x86).

Both times, it happened when Pale Moon had been completely closed. I poked an icon on my taskbar which opens the browser and I get the popup. I'm not going to a web site of any kind, just opening the browser to a blank page.

Shutting down the browser and reopening it again is OK, the popup does not reappear.

I did not take a screen shot, but it was pinkish/reddish with words to the effect that it had blocked something.

I looked over the MBAE forum at Malwarebytes.org and did not see any reference to this.

Has this happened to anyone else? Known issue? Unheard of?

It seems to be benign and I cannot explain why it occurs only when opening the browser and only twice in thousands of attempts, both recently.

A:Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit popup when opening browser---????

I had something similar happen when launching any browser from an Icon on the desktop. Deleted all shortcuts and from File Manager, right clicked on the actual .exe program and selected send to Desktop, create shortcut.

My computer is infected with some sort of malware and I still have not found a way to get rid of it. Isaw a topic posted over in the "Am I infected? What do I do?" thead and got some suggestions which bought me here. The link to that thread is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/178465/mtn5goolews-and-popupadvnet-malware/.The first symptoms I noticed were unprompted popup adds from the sites mtn5.goole.ws and popup.adv.net. I have also noticed that offensive adds are being inserted in the add bars on some reputable, mainstream websites. This sypmtom does not seem to occur on every website and I cannot detect any sort of pattern with it.I have run a variety of different programs and scans including Mcafee, TrojanHunter, a-squareed and the problem persists. The programs have located a variety of different trojans and while they say that they are able to remove them, the syptoms and the trojans seem to not go away. Secondly, I noticed that I cannot go to Microsoft windows update, get mcafee definitions etc. I can find and go to microsoft center to get the download of their latest browser fix, but when I press download, it either redirects me to www.msn.com or page not found error.due to not being able to reach out to teh mainstream sites, I cannot even download the latest virus efinitions (so my McAfee is complaining), cannot go get the latest patches rom microsoft (so I am complaining).I saw in the previous thread that Buckeye_Sam asked to download and run RSIT.exe.... I downloaded VLC media player (apparently not from the right place) and since then I have been getting ads on every web page I go to. It happens in chrome as well as IE. Pop up windows, pop up tabs, pop up banners and those extra double-underlined links which appear randomly in all the text which bring you to more ad sites (with pop up bubbles if you hover over them. They say "ads by bettersurf" down in the corner.) The ads seem to be for all different things, so it's hard to pin down what exactly to call this virus. Some of them include globaltechexpert.com, downloadcamp.com, yoursoftsite.com, fastonlinefinder.com, etc, etc. One that always appears up in the corner of the page says Call For Great Tech Support with a number. Also there seem to be extra ads embedded in the webpages themselves and sometimes the pics that actually should be there are way over-sized and distort the spacing of the pages. I have already run a full scan with Malwarebytes which detected a few things, but deleting them did not help. Please help! It is extremely annoying and things seem to be slower too. My Computer, Running Windows 7, started giving troubles with internet connection - The Proxy server Not responding. The device or resource (web proxy) is not set up to accept connections on port "8080". The issue gets fixed in Google Chrome when I ran a full scan in Malwarebytes (Other Ant-virus/malware like MS Security essential or 360 Total Security couldn't help).

But whenever I am connected to internet, Malwarebytes keeps giving pop-up - Malicious website blocked - wpad.browsersecurity.info. When I disabled online protection of Malwarebytes, the Proxy error appeared again. And I could see the following entries in the registry:

Key -> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Wpad\<key value>\
Value Name -> WpadDetectedUrl
Value Data -> http://wpad.browsersecurity.info/wpad.dat

Key ->HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2008440364-1844915008-329570366-1000-{ED1FC765-E35E-4C3D-BF15-2C2B11260CE4}-0\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Wpad\<key value>\
Value Name -> WpadDetectedUrl
Value Data -> http://wpad.browsersecurity.info/wpad.dat

If I delete WpadDetectedUrl value, the browser gets connected to the internet via the router.
But I can see (in Task manager) many instances of iexplorer/chrome is getting created and each time malware bytes (when enabled) gives pop-up saying Malicious website blocked - wpad.browsersecurity.info.

As the title says, I'm having several problems. I get a popup in IE or Firefox from time to time stating the following:Windows Internet SecurityYour browser is under the threat of infection. Staying at the suspicious website in unsafe mode may lead to the loss of personal data and computer breakage. To run the web browser in protected mode Windows requires installing the certified antivirus scanner software and online protection tool.I just close those windows without clicking on anything. Somehow some malware got installed on my PC claiming that I had a virus and the only way to remove it would be to buy their virus-removal software. Death first! I found some software that seemingly removed this malware but probably not completely. From time to time various threads such as Norton AntiVirus, Outlook or Google updater will result in a system popup being displayed saying that file notoskrnl.dll is not a valid Windows image. This file, which I understand should not even be on a Windows XP system, is 0 bytes long. I am afraid to delete this file not knowing whether I will be able to reboot again. I rebooted in safe mode to run hijackthis but I no longer got the popups. The following is a hijackthis log run in normal mode. Hi,

I've been given a friends computer to have a look at (and in my opinion it is the crappiest install I have ever seen done by a PC company- custom bootloaders, moddified themes, bloatware all over the place).

When the computer starts up, a warning that this copy of windows is not genuine pops up. I suspect this may be the case- but what is confusing is that the popup is for Windows Vista Ultimate.

The copy of XP runs a (modified XP start bar, Vista Icons). I've checked that its not a themed copy of Vista (my computer -> properties, checked control panel and its style networking, dxdiag confirms xp). The version of XP is some 'Xp Ice'.

Why would the windows Vista "not genuine popup" in an XP operating system?? And how on earth can I fix it?

Cheers guys

A:windows not genuine popup - xp but popup is for vista :S

install a valid, genuine copy of XP.
XP ICE is a pirated copy someone has cobbled together using pieces of Vista, hence the Vista error.

Recently cleaned my parents computer of the Adware Portal Scan trojan. Now, friend is having similar problems (computer trying to dial up automatically and sudden bombardment of popups despite having two popup stoppers). However, I'm not seeing the slmss or mwsvm files. He can't even install a new anti-virus program because his cd drive has been disabled. Below is the hijack this log from his computer. I know there's a lot of junk; I've tried to warn him about his internet traffic habits. Right now, though, our main concern is regaining access to his cd drive and his internet. The repeated auto dialing is shutting down all other activities. Any help someone can give would be greatly appreciated!

You can download it over the top of the current version. Do that, and post another log.

A:Can't get rid of A Internet Speed Monitor Popup - Daughter's computer

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

Hi Guys, I'm hoping someone can help with this, and I'm approaching the point of tearing my hair out. I started down this route looking for a way to get rid of critical system warnings talking about Cyberlog-x. I've run through the instructions in the Preparation Guide, and it seems to have killed off the more obvious pop-ups, although my system is still running like a dog. I'm also having problems with starting the system - it seems to take a much longer time than normal to get beyond the XP loading screen, and sometimes it will let me log on, but then hang until I manually start explorer from the task manager. My Hijackthis log is attached below. (I wanted to get this log posted tonight to catch the non-uk/europe timezones, so Stinger is still running) I'd also manually started explorer from the task manager when I ran HijackThis - I don't know if that will make any difference.Thanks in advance! Hallo Robs2014 and
Would you do the following:
Download Screen317 Security Check HERE and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Please post the contents of that document.
Note:: If any security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so
Please download MiniToolBox HERE to your desktop to run it.
Checkmark the following boxes:
* List content of Hosts
* Flush DNS
* Report IE Proxy Settings
* Reset IE Proxy Settings
* Report FF Proxy Settings
* Reset FF Proxy Settings
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
Click Go and Copy / Paste the result. (result.txt)

Thank you!

Hey guys, so I have a problem
I had W7 Ultimate x86 and my cpu (phenom 9600) got a score of 6,2
So I installed W7 Ultimate x64 and score changed to 4,9
So it had a same score as my previous cpu (athlon 64 x2 4000+)
Tried to rerun it, got same score
Installed W7 Ultimate x86 again and score was 4,6
Then I installed W7 Professional x64 and score was once again 4,9
So does anyone know will this affect my pc performance
And is there any solution for this
Thanks

A:WEI getting lower

Not sure why your score would change, it should stay the same no matter what version of windows you have installed.

It will not affect performance, it`s just a number.

After connecting my new laptop to the my 30" tv with an HDMI cord and then removing it later, the resolution was messed up. I received a notification bubble saying that my resolution was at the recommended settings. I went to my screen resolution settings and the slider said it was at 1366x768 ,which is the max on my computer, but below was a warning saying, "Your resolution is lower than 1200x900. Some items might not fit on your screen". If there is any way I can fix this please let me know.

Thanks,
Ryan

A:Your resolution is lower than...

That would be because the Flat Screen you are using is unable to show anything higher. You can verify that information in the manual for your Flat Screen.
