Virus? Malwarebytes Error and IE won't open

Q: Virus? Malwarebytes Error and IE won't open

Working on this PC that seems like it has been infected. It will not open certain filetype (MS Project, MS Excel) and will not open IE (not even in safe mode). I am getting an error 372 when trying to run Malwarebytes and rkill shows no viruses. Any suggestions?

I have gotten a virus and can not get ny malwarebytes to open and scan. How do i get rid of this?

A:I have a virus and cant open Malwarebytes

Hello,I am moving this from XP to Am I Infected as you are. Some types of malware will disable MBAM (MalwareBytes) and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it.Before saving any of your security programs, rename them first. For example, before you save Malwarebytes', rename it to something like MBblah.exe and then click on Save and save it to your desktop. Same thing after you install it. Before running it, rename the main executable file first***Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..

Hi,

Superrobot here. Here's the issue; the facts are these: I am using a Windows 7 OS on a 7 year old laptop. One day while reading webcomics and watching youtube, I noticed the computer running suspiciously slow; like more slow then it should, I attempted to reset, thinking perhaps I just used too much memory, but even after I turned the computer back on it was chugging. Knowing the drill, having heard horror stories of the like from friends and family, I quickly shut down the internet connection and attempted to run Malwarebytes. It refused to open! It would start and then the program would linger as if about to open and have a windows error.

After that; I tried just about nearly every tool on this website, I am pretty smart, but nothing I tried worked. I would use another laptop I own to browse your forums, download tools to a USB drive, try them on infected laptop, over and over and over.

It's been two weeks now, and I am at my wit's end. I have zero idea what I am even up against. Just that it will not allow me to install new anti-virus software, and that OTHER (non malwarebytes) programs that deal with just spyware/malware don't seem to notice anything wrong, making believe it is something specially that Malwarebytes looks for that others don't, which is why that is the one that will not open at all.

A:Virus will not allow Malwarebytes to open and or run.

Edit: Sorry I missed the part you tried chameleon. There is an option you can try. Kaspersky Rescue Disk. Connect the computer via Ethernet so the definitions can be updated. You can burn the downloaded iso to a CD or use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive.

The other option is to post in the Virus Removal Forum where a malware removal expert can look at the logs you post after reading the pinned topics.

Hi,
I share a computer with my mom, and a couple of days ago she got a couple of trojans. It was no problem, I got rid of them with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Everything was fine...then today I turned the computer on and the desktop background was changed.

It's a big black box and says:

Quote:

YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED!

System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction.
Spyware activity has been detected.

It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent loss.
Do not run any application before all spyware removed.

Something pops up and automatically starts scanning, I'm able to stop it. Everytime I restart, it happens again though.

Problem is I can't open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. When I try, it says:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the approptiate permissions to access the item."
I tried in safe mode...says the same thing.

Please help.

A:Virus changed desktop background, Can't open Malwarebytes

I'm having a slew of issues with my computer that I'm hoping all stem from malware. When I start my computer, I get a Security Center console, which throws pop-ups saying I should buy their software because I'm unprotected. I also have Paladin Antivirus add itself on my desktop. I'd give more detailed descriptions, but I can't get to the bleeping computer website from my laptop; the browser gives a "page not available" message when I attempt to open the link. I also cannot open Malwarebytes or Spybot; when the icon is clicked, nothing happens. After reading previous forums at work, where I can access information, I downloaded rkill using a friend's computer (again, couldn't get to the webpage from home). The process ran but didn't come up with anything (I'll try to get a print screen of the log tonight). Any assistance into this would be great.

Thanks!

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

Hello! I'm new and a little computer illiterate so please be gentle.

I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 6000 and noticed the other day that my computer was running amazingly slow so I decided to run a malwarebytes scan. Unfortunately it didn't launch.

I tried it in safe mode but it still didn't launch.

then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and safe mode again but no luck.

Then I surfed this forum a little and tried renaming the .exe to .com but that didn't work either.

What's my next step?

Hi all,

I'm new here, but I've used various tips and tutorials from here and other forums on the internet to solve my malware/virus issues usually successfully.

This time, however, I'm stumped.

It seems I've been infected by PC AntiSpyware 2010 and Windows Antivirus Pro. I tried following both of their respective removal guides, but Malwarebytes is not working for me. When I re-install and change the file name of mbam.exe, it would scan for 4 seconds before closing. When I click on the file again it gives me a message "Windows cannot access specified device path or file..."

I just don't know what to now. And so I'm at the mercy of your expertise with this. I have Windows XP btw.

Many thanks.

What's worse is that my computer is somehow unable to boot in Safe Mode. The computer would just get stuck and I would have to force shut down the computer to get it to boot again.

Anyone have any ideas what I should do? Thanks.

Hi I will try to provide as many details as possible:

I am using Windows XP on a Dell Latitude D620 with Google Chrome browser

Browsing the internet I stumbled upon filestube.com, and this is when my trouble started.

I started getting pop up bubbles from my system tray from "XP Antispyware 2011" saying my computer is at risk etc. Then soon after I was getting full pop ups for this "XP antispyware 2011" I can x out of them but they do reappear quite frequently. I immediately tried to run Malwarebytes anti-malware that is installed (but hasn't been updated in a few months because I always forget to check for updates). It started a full scan and detected 148 items. It had me restart my computer. Once is restarted a window came up saying some of the items could not be deleted. I tried opening Malwarebytes again but it will not run anymore.

I tried running it from the command prompt but the file mbam.exe is no where to be found in the Malwarebytes'Anti Malware folder. Mbam is there as an "application" and double clicking on it does nothing. I realize a troubleshooting idea is to rename the mbam.exe file but I can't locate it to rename.

On a side note, at one point the spyware seemed to freeze itself up when I x'ed out of it one time and got the following:

"vz.exe is not responding" end now which i did and then the window do you want to tell MS about the problem came up, which I x'ed out of.

Last night I got infected with something.
I immediately tried to run Malwarebytes, but it would not open. Task Manager showed that mbam.exe would run for a second and then disappear from Processes.
When that would not work I tried to Google search in Firefox for help but the top responses would redirect to Youtube videos, or other spam sites.
The first page that I could get to work told me to rename the process to run Malwarebytes, which I did and got the program to run.
After running the program, deleting the found infections and restarting, my computer would not connect to the wifi automatically, which it usually does.
I ran Malwarebytes again, and it found nothing.

Usually at this point everything is fine, but this time a. when I tried to change the executable file's name back to mbam.exe, it still will not run, and b. I still cannot get forums on websites like cnet.

Please, please, please, if anyone has anything that could help me it would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running on Windows XP Home version. Around June, I added an external hard drive, which (I speculate) caused my computer to take around half an hour to boot up--this is important because due to this problem, I can no longer access safe mode (I have tried many a time). I have BitDefender and Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus programs. Up until the past few malware episodes, my Malwarebytes program has been handling the issues wonderfully. However, a couple weeks ago the program started running this error message:"Unable to execute file:C:\Program Files\Malwarebyes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exeCreateProcess failed; code 2.The system cannot find the file specified."Naturally, I googled this exact phrase and encountered other people with the same issues. However, after reading through many solution sites, none of them worked. Furthermore, I tried downloading a Microsoft update that would scan for malware but it too would not initiate (I also renamed the installation files). So far I am plagued by two malware programs: Security Tool and Antivirus System Pro, the first of which I can end the process in task manager and delete the files after each boot up, but the second of which I can't seem to locate and have been blindly ending processes in task manager until it temporarily goes away. Both of these programs cause BitDefender and SEP to not run properly and, in the most recent extreme case, did not let me execute any programs outside ... Read more

Hi,

My name is Aidan. My problem is not a major one since I haven't really had any major problems that I can think of but I am pretty sure I have picked up some spyware since I can no longer open either Ad-aware or Malwarebytes. The Ad-Aware folder says (empty) on the start menu but it is there on the uninstall programs menu.

I am running Windows 7 and I also have AVG installed which has thus far discovered nothing leading me to believe that it might be spyware rather than a virus.

Thanks.

A:Can't open Ad-Aware or Malwarebytes

Hello - First step, Please try to delete Ad-aware program. If you can not uninstall it, then Reinstall and try to unstall again.Use the Control Panel > Programs and Features to find if the program is listed -Please try to use Malwarebytes Chameleon to scan your computer. The full directions are included in this link above from Malwarebytes Help Section. Try these 2 options first - Thank You -

Please download and scan with Dr.Web CureIt - alternate download link.Follow these instructions for performing a scan in "safe mode" after running ATF-Cleaner.If you cannot boot into safe mode, then perform your scan in normal mode. Be aware, this scan could take a long time to complete.-- Post the log in your next reply. If you can't find the log, try to write down what was detected/removed before exiting Dr.WebCureIt so you can provide that information. Some types of malware will disable Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it and changing the file extension. click this link if you do not see the file extensionRight-click on the mbam-setup.exe file, rename it to mysetup and change the .exe extension to .scr, .com, .pif, or .bat.Then double-click on mysetup.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to begin installation. If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.Right-click on mbam.exe, rename it to myscan and change the .exe extension in the same way as noted above.Double-click on myscan.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to launch the program. If using Windows Vista, refer to How to Change a File Extension in Windows Vista.Be sure to update MBAM through the program's interface (preferable method) or manually download the definition updates and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. I had the Anti-Malware Doctor virus and could not download and anti virus programs because it was blocking them from being downloaded. I tried changing the name and downloading it from another computer using a thumb drive but each time it tried to install it was denied access by the virus. I finally installed Avast and it somehow was able to download and Run. I did a scan and removed over 100 threats. After this I was finally able to get the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program loaded. Before running this, however I ran the rkill scan plus a TDSSKiller scan. After all of this I finally ran a complete Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan in safe Mode. Then I ran it again in regular mode. This seemed to remove the virus but now I cannot use Internet Explorer? Its tells me that "IE cannot display the webpage". I think it must have removed one of the vital registry keys in IE or something. Please Advise.

A:Ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and now can't open IE?

Some forms of malware will enable a proxy server, and here are Microsoft's instructions for editing the settings in Internet Explorer. You want to make sure the Use a proxy server for your LAN box is unchecked.

I'm at a real loss here... I'm typing form my roommates laptop, but I'll give you a rundown of what it going on. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I have a 37 page paper due on Monday... ha.

Okay i was streaming youtube and the laptop was running just fine, then all the applications closed and the computer restarted. It booted back up (after a significantly longer time) and immediately tried to open malwarebytes. However, now no applications of any kind will open. Not even IE. So I have no idea what to do. I booted into safe mode and am having the same problem.

I've been watching the task manager but only 5 processes are running. All of which seem normal except for maybe CTFmon.exe. don't know why that would be running of all things.

I'm in desperate need of help, so thank you for any advice you may have.
Max

EDIT: Guess I should also describe what is going on... When you try to open an application, it appears in the task manager, and the spinning circle appears next to my pointer, but nothing happens and the .exe disappears from task manager.

After running Rkill and scanning with Malwarbytes (found and removed 5 issues), MS Office programs will not open from desktop icons. Hello, from reading other posts I am guessing I might have the google re-direct virus and maybe something else. I am not super computer literate but I will try my best to describe and follow instructions.

I am on a wireless laptop through a router, my browser is Firefox and I use Windows XP.

My problems:

Every once in a while while I am browsing the internet, more frequently when I open a new tab another tab that I did not authorize will open, the URL makes it look like a pop up but usually only a blank screen loads. I try to X it quickly.
Computer started running slowly. Internet browsing loading slowly.
Every so often my sound card would stop working (may be unrelated)
I recognized the signs and tried to run Malwarebytes. It showed a working hourglass for a moment then did not open, I checked the process manager, I clicked again and it still would not open. Not in safe mode either.

Currently the anti spyware/malware programs I have installed are: Rkill, Malwarebytes and Spybot - search and destroy. Spybot will open and scan but Malware won't. Rkill dosn't seem to find anything worth closing.

Please any directions you can offer would help.

~ Holly

A:Vundo infection and Malwarebytes will not open

Hi,Please try this version of malwarebytes: Click the link hereSave it on your desktop. You'll see it will have a random name, and will look similar like this: Doubleclick on it, so it will extract the files and will start Malwarebytes automatically. In case the installer (random named file) won't run either, rename it to EXPLORER.EXE and try again. When Malwarebytes opens, click the "Update" tab FIRST and select to check for updates in order to get the latest updates. In case Malwarebytes doesn't open, search for the folder mbam-installer on your desktop, open it and doubleclick the file winlogon.exe which will be present in there. This should launch Malwarebytes. Then perform a scan and let it remove what it found. Reboot afterwards (important). After reboot, post the malwarebytes log together with a new HijackThislog. In case you're having problems with above instructions, let me know.

Hi,

I tried opening Spybot and Malware bytes antimalware and it said that it had stopped responding and closed out on me.

I uninstalled and renamed the folders and reinstalled after downloading it from CNET (because it does not let me go to their respective websites as well) but it still does not work.

I saw a few posts saying that i might need a log from HIJACK this so i downloaded and installed it. But no luck there as well. Cannot run it same problem. Tried going into safe mode and trying all three and it still does not work.

Please advise.

Regards,
Davy

I Was opening a website tab and received a message that won't let me get anywhere else. It was very long and stated that I had to call Windows to Take away some Zeus Virus and give them Error Ticket WBCKL457. I looked on my phone at the forum for Windows and saw that this was a scam and to install the new update. I tried it was stuck on 14% for an hour - I turned the computer to restart because it is set to install all updates on restart and redid it and it says that it is now at complete. I am also running the Kaspersky protection and scan on the computer and that is taking quite a while - but I figured I would write and see if I have done anything wrong - if the virus could be imbedded and not found - and if there is anything further I can do / scan to make sure that the system is ok from this initial scare

@Shay208?, welcome to the forum. I have had several of these messages in past days.  I have simply closed my browser, Edge, and ran my SuperAntiSpyware (FREE version).  There was no indication that there is any malware on my computer.  As long as, you didn't open any links I don't believe that you will have any problems. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I've also tried running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Spybot-Search & Destroy but none of them will open. The only thing I have that opens and works is McAfee and SmitfraudFix. I tried downloading AVG, and I've tried installing it, but it doesn't save to my computer, so I can't run that either. Somebody please help me! I came to this website as i'm having a issue with malwares.

Earlier this morning, i started to have problems when using Microsoft Edge, the browser keep open another unknown links when i click.

So i searched online and then installed Malwarebytes, the ran the update and the scan, the scan detected some problems so I removed it, then i restarted my computer.

I thought the stuff in the quarantine are not good for my computer so for some reason i deleted the files in the quarantine too!

After that i opened MS Edge to check and now it can't even open! It just close immediately after the window pops up.

Now i have no idea what to do, i haven't done anything to my computer since then. Please help

Oh and i also had a problem started to have when i tried to open the mail app in my windows 10. The app can't sync with my gmail account. When i tried to sync it says the error is: 0x80040154
I found this error when i tried to activate my account to get to this forum, so i don't know if the error occurs after or before i ran the scan with malwarebytes.

Thank you

Backdoor ThreatIMPORTANT NOTE: Unfortunatly One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallWe can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Hello,

I've been Internet surfing for a few hours today until I was alerted by my computer about my disk space getting low. I decided to go clean up some space in the Control Panel until I'm given this:

The instruction at 0x00007FFFA150C38 referenced memory at
0x000000001ABDCD40. The required data was not placed into memory
because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000007f.

Click on OK to terminate the program.
I get the same errors from:

From what I had tested so far. I crash on PC settings with zero error messages about it. It's still on my task bar, but opening it leads to the gear before it crashes to desktop. Similar to Skyrim, for an example, but the program itself is still "on."

I found out that I can sneak into the This PC area through other folders, but the C: drive says it's

0 bytes out of 118 GB
I ended up cleaning it out so I have 10.4 GB open, but I'm still unable to get into anything.

So a hero should be Malwarebytes, no? The moment I open it, it claims that I have never done a scan on it before when I had about two months ago. The moment I click "SCAN NOW" an error pops up saying:

Hey guys, thanks in advance for the help. I can't open Malwarebytes and when I click the shortcut on my Desktop it says it's not found (like it was uninstalled) however I checked my control panel > add/remove programs and it's still there as well as the folder in program files is still there. When I go to click it or right click > run as, nothing happens, like the process is killed IMMEDIATELY.

Also, I had this desktop shortcut to a program called Internet Security 2010, but I don't know if that is what's causing it. When I try to search the web, I get redirected to searchclick.com or some crap, then MFeed. It's pretty frustrating and I don't know what to do.

I'm running my PC in Debugging Mode because I cannot get into my PC the regular way, it keeps "restarting" after a certain point if I don't hold down F8 and go to Debugging Mode.

Thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it. I just hope my PC isn't beyond saving except for a reformat...

Hello,

My laptop running Vista is infected with Open Cloud AV. I have tried rkill and Malwarebytes, which removed the Vista Antivirus from the same computer last May. This time, the first time I used rkill, under "processes terminated," it just listed "xe." Every time I try to run it again, it lists no processes terminated. I can start a Malwarebytes scan but it disappears after a few seconds. When I try to run it again, I get the message "Windows cannot access the specified device...you do not have permission etc." I checked for TDSSkiller and it found 1 hidden file and 1 forged file that were suspicious objects with medium risk. They only offered the Skip, not Cure, option, and then said No Threats Found.

I have the DDS.txt log but could not get a GMER log--I got to the point of unchecking the appropriate items and clicking Scan. It started to scan and it too disappeared after a few seconds.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I was on a website when all of the sudden my real-time Anti-Malwarebytes displayed a message saying that I had some trojan called Vundo (or something like that). So I went to open Malwarebytes to do a scan, and it turns out it was completely deleted off of my computer! So I went to the Malwarebytes website to download it again, and now it won't even install on my computer! Also, when I get on the internet, I am now getting pop-ups and redirected to different sites.

What should I do? Thanks for your help!

A:Vundo Trojan Won't Let Me Open Anti-Malwarebytes!

Firstoff, try and get your hands on a clean computer (WITH antivirus software) and a flash drive.Secondly, since it's downloaded, install by renaming the "mbam" setup file to something random, anything will do. If it installs, but does not run, go into the Malwarebytes directory (C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware [I think]). Go to Tools>Folder Options (in the menu) and "Show file extensions for known filetypes." Then, rename (mbam.exe [again, guessing]) to something like "blah.com" This should theoretically fool the malware and allow you to run the software and remove a bunch of the junk that is plaguing you. Now, by the looks of it you should try using other anti-malware programs as well. Downloading Avast 5 free will allow you to schedule a "boot-time" scan which I highly recommend you utilize so as to insure malware can be caught before it loads. Spybot Search&Destroy, Ad-Aware, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG Free, and Avira Anti-Vir Personal are all feasible and recommended choices to run. And, as with the malwarebytes executable, if any of the above setup programs refuse to run, rename the executable! This can fool the malware! If you need any more help, just ask.

I noticed I was getting an inordinate amount of pop-ups, went to run Spybot and it wouldn't open. Went to open AVG and it wouldn't update... Same with Adaware. Found this site, decided to try malwarebytes... it installed, but wouldn't run afterward.

I then tried a system restore, but when I click the final "next" in order to get the process on the way... Nothing happens.

I also tried all of the above in Safe mode... but willing to try again. I'm barely savvy, just know a few things.

Where do I even start with this problem?

A:Can't open Spybot or malwarebytes, update AVG or Ad-aware

If mbam won't install or runSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run.

I ran malwarebytes on my aunt's computer because there was a virus that was stopping numerous applications from opening. After removing the infected files I tried opening internet explorer. I keep getting the same error message "An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will not close." This is version 6 of IE. When i tried installing version 8 i get the error message "the procedure entry point shreggetvaluew could not be located in the dynamic link library shwapi.dll". I ran hijackthis and my log is included below.

computer started getting pop ups randomly even with mcafee running and even after using spybot. Then somehow some fake antivirus "My PC protector" installed itself on the system and things went to crap. Girlfriend tried to go back to a restore point but nothing happened. As of right now no exe's work. Tried to install maleware bytes and avg, avg install ended in an error while the anti maleware installed and but whenever I try to run the computer can not locate the file. Also, I notice that another user profile has popped up named adminstrator that I have never seen before on other start ups. I continuely get the windows/system32/dosapoma.dll not valid windows image error. Tried to do a few registry fixes like the zip file everyone seems to mention, that seemded to install but didnt work and I couldnt open regedit anyway.

Really at a loss of what to do next.

Been in safe mode for the whole day and still the computer is crap. Anyhelp would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Almost forget, have no current access to boot cd or anything, they are at parents house about 3 hours away.

Somehow got "anti-malware 2009" AND "malware defense" today, and, I fear there may be others lurking. However those are the two of which I am sure. I immediately realized what was happening of course, and didn't let the malware remove my Malwarebytes.

However, everything froze, and upon restart neither Malwarebytes nor my AV Security Suite (it's McAfee) will open or run. Neither run at star-tup now or show up in my tray, either. Initially, after this first restart, there was a message from windows security (I run XP pro) saying I was unprotected--obviously-- but also stating that I was missing crucial window updates. Turns out, it was Nvidia driver updates, which are hardly crucial I think, but because I couldn't open or run Malwarebytes, I restarted again. After yet another restart, I downloaded and re-installed McAfee... to no avail. It's in my files, it just will not run (or it doesn't appear, so I can't see if it's running). I did the same with Malwarebytes when I still couldn't open it...I downloaded a new setup file, which sits, 7 HOURS later, on my desktop, never running, not able to be opened when I click it.

Does anyone here have any ideas as to what else I can do? How to get Malwarebytes open, or how to remove the insidious files without it? I have run HiJack This, and can submit the log if it will allow someone to help me with this situation.

I appreciate any help you can provide, and meanwhile I'm backing ... Read more

My brother in law who has a very weak knowledge of computers has obvious issues affecting his laptop's performance.  It is obviously infected by spyware, trojans and viruses.   I tried downloading the free malwarebytes to his computer to run a scan but it will not open.

I was able to download and use awccleaner to remove some infestations along with the free Norton Eraser but I trust Malwarebytes the most.

It is since running a bit smoother but I still want to run the scan.

I saw another topic that was locked. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/549399/malwarebytes-wont-start/

Using the information from that thread, I have used the clean uninstall tool from malwarebytes and have re-installed the application.

I downloaded the Farbar Recovery Scan tool for his 65 bit system and completed the scans as per the instructions.

I have pasted the FRST.txt in my next reply and then attached the Addition.txt in my reply.

Please advise if more information is needed.

It seems that when i do the quickdl for combofix it prompts up a message saying this can be a virus please do not install and says i may be infected with virus virut or w/e, and the combofix dl was from this site. I also keep getting virus popups ever 30 seconds. Here is a partial solution it would seem:

1. Run Malwarebytes Pro
2. reinstall Windows
3. find correct drivers because model number was wiped in the bios
4. open MS-Word docs with Wordpad
5. first line of open file in Wordpad has gibberish but text can be read afterwards

Again, it seems to me this is not encryption issue because the same garbage-gibberish appears across different ppt and word files when they are opened. I suspect only headers have been corrupted in data files.

Any luck with pdf files anyone?

Best,
Marc

A:Ran Malwarebytes pro, reinstalled Windows and can now open Word docs in Wordpad

Thanks for looking at this.

Running XP on a computer that is used as a checkout in my shop. It seemed slower than it should the other day and with my limited knowledge I found a csrss.exe file, actually 2 of them, in "Application Data" folder of "All Users" in "Documents and Settings". One of the files was 0bytes, the other I cannot remember.

I deleted both after a little research, and went to run Malwarebytes which won't open. I've uninstalled it and tried again. I only receive the following message

mbam.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application.

And it won't run.

I then downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition. But double clicking the installer does nothing. I see nothing load or attempt to load. No error message.

I have managed to get Spybot S&D to run. But it doesn't seem to find anything worth cleaning.

As per your guide I have run FRST and I'll attach the logs.

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

Everytime I open Windows Media Player, Malwarebytes pops up with a message that says, "Malwarebytes has successfully blocked IP 213.174.154.144". I did some research and that IP apparently leads to a filthy malicious site. The thing is though is that I've ran a full scan with MB and it comes up as nothing infected and I did a full scan with Super Anti-Spyware and it didn't show anything infected either. So it must be hidden well because it keeps popping up EVERYTIME I open WMP. Please help.

Thank you.

A:Malwarebytes popping up each time I open Windows Media Player

This also started happening to me today, out of the blue, each time I open WMP. It is version 11, running on an XP SP3 machine. Not too worried at this point since MBAM is detecting and blocking access to the IP, but would like to know more about what's causing it. Will be tracking this thread for ongoing developments and info.

Hi, thanks for the help. I think I have a adware/malware program that my virus scanners can't find. My internet is very slow and I'm getting an increased number of popups. Also, I can't open Malwarebyte's, the program I usually use to clean up situations like this. I've run Vundofix and nothing came up. I also ran Trend Micro's downloadable program and nothing came up. I tried opening Malwarebyte's in safe mode and got the same error message, tried reinstalling it 3 times and still got the same message, if that helps at all.

I read the to do sheet and have attached the scans. Below is the DDS.txt, attached are attach.txt and ark.txt. Thanks for helping me!! I appreciate it!

I recently contracted the FBI Money Pak virus, and was told by a friend to use the safemode with networking to download malwarebytes and run it. With many tried and failed attempts my computer (with the help of viruses) eventually completely prevented me from opening any kind of safe mode. That's when i used my uncles computer to download malwarebytes to a flash drive and install it to the infected computer. Prior to doing i used the support.microsoft.com/help for live help and the lady told me the virus was pretending to be an unregistered Microsoft Bing. Avoiding that one time payment of $99, i sought other help and many discussions brought me to malwarebytes.

Anyway after installing malwarebytes from the flash drive and running it, all went well and the viruses were removed. Upon recent attempts to open the application, the loading circle appears and nothing happens. So i uninstalled it and reinstalled countless times following different options i got from google to get it to run. And it still didnt budge. Also i mistakenly opened explorer after i vowed not to ever use it and screen popped up trying to coerce me into using bing as my primary search engine. I proceeded to try and disable bing with no success. Tried to uninstall explorer, but it didn't even exist in my uninstall pane under control panel. That's when i figured something was seriously wrong.

Hi lugnuts9,Welcome to BC HijackThis forum. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem. Please refrain from making any changes to your system (scanning or running other tools, updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might interfere with our fixes. Please let me know in your next reply if you agree with this. One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.A backdoor Trojan can allow an attacker to gain control of the system, log keystrokes, steal passwords, access personal data, send malevolent outgoing traffic, and close the security warning messages displayed by some anti-virus and security programs.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised. I had a virus for all of 3 minutes, it was that shield crap.

I recently received this error message: Generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. It came up twice today so far and when I closed out the box I lost the stuff on my desktop, my icons and the start toolbar. I have also had 2 dll errors pop up since then too everytime I turn my computer back on.

The dll errors are as follows: c:\windows\kbjmer.dll
c:\windows\dilimarlgafeyuz.dll

If anyone can please help me I would really appreciate it. It seems like my computer is always 'catching' something.

Not sure whats going on, system is slow, Malwarebytes came back with error 714 (0,9), so uninstalled using add/remove programs - but even that continually showed error code thru process. Have now reinstalled Malwarebytes and running scan - nothing detected on scan yet. Tried to print on Dell 924 Photo printer (which has worked fine for 5 years) and came back printing error. Tried to add/remove MS SQL 2005 program, wouldn't allow me to uninstal...this program had error messages at startup, wasn't even sure what it was or how it got on the system, so decided to uninstal after inquiring on techguy software forum..but it wouldn't let me uninstal it. I think the program was probably related to high school technology class with the boys. Anyways, here is the hyjackthis log attached. Any help would be appreciated. This was the family PC, but now the kids are gone and I'm just trying to get it cleaned up so I can use it again. Dell Dimension 4550, Windows XP SP3, AVG antivirus. Thanks!

Very inexperienced in fixes and repairs. I rely on programs to work.

Malwarebytes (just downloaded 2 days ago)

Just got the computer back 2 days ago after contracting some kind of trojan. Was reformated.

I loged on this morning, opened outlook, opened firefox-to facebook.

A malwarebytes window flashed up, closing all programs
.
It was the quarintine box, saying that it had found 2 seperate trojan...something sign something.

I tried to highlight and delete the 2 entries. Wouldn't do anything.

X it out and turned off the computer tried to bring it back in safe mode. Husband tried 12 times to get safe mode.
Tapping F9 would only bring it to some re-boot screen.

Had to msconfig to get to safe mode.

Tried to run malwarebytes in safemode, got the same runtime error code 50003

Use windows remove program to remove malwarebytes to (in my mind) get rid of corrupt program.

Doing a search found this site and used it to download Malewarebytes

in this process also downloaded rkillls from here, it found one thing

Then Installed maLWAREBYTES, tried to run it and still got run time error 50003

Help? Be gentle. I don't even understand how to copy log files to show you.

Thank you,

Hi I am fairly new new to this, I would be so greatful if somebody could tell me the steps I need to take to finally get my computer virus free, I think I have one of those that try to sell you a fake anti virus software one. Usually when it happened to me before malwarebytes would get rid of it, no problems but now every time i do a scan with malwarebytes usually only one file shows infected but it always shows up no matter how many times do scan and remove, so obviously malwarebytes isn't enough to get rid of it , my webpages are very often redirected to this working from home website too. And avast keeps giving me warnings and notifies me my computer is infected.
Also most of my pictures and program files on my computer have been altered to be or appear hidden, when you right click on them and on properties on general tab on attributes they are all clicked on hidden now. I hope one of you kind people can help me and give me advice on what steps I need to take, thank you so much.

About a month ago I ran a anti virus program and it came up with a few trojans and stuff I can't remember anymore. It removed them. I ran clean disc. Then ran super antispyware. Then tried malwarebytes and it would not work. My computer ran fine so I didn't worry about it at that time. Recently I downloaded Iobit anti spyware program and ran it. It came up with a couple issues and deleted and quarantined them. This iobit program has since been deleted so I can't go back and find out what it quarentined. Cleaned disc and ran super antispyware again but malwarebytes still won't work. I have tried all recommended advice to get it to work, like changing the file name but no good. Ran hijackthis and see a couple entries that don't look right. System seems to work fine but I know that if malwarebytes doesn't respond then there must be something going on. I run wondows xp. My kids like to play games from some websites and some websites can download stuff you don't want which have given me problems before but I have always been able to fix it. This time I am stumped.

Some entries were urlsearchhook and a couple with [no name] or [no file] or both.

I don't have good specifics... sorry. My problem sounds just like sugarcane64 posted recently, however I can not get malwarebytes to run after installing from a flash drive. I renamed it to get the computer to install it. Still won't open/run it.It started with a rogue malware application 2 days ago that I think I removed with Adaware. My other spwyare programs won't run, or reinstall after I deleted them. The computer was opening in safe mode with the black screen and 4 corners, but no icons. Did some reading and thot I had "incompatible motherboard chipset video driver". Was trying to follow those instructions with no luck because I could not start from a CD and don't seem to have my computer instructions about how to do something microsoft wanted me to do with my BIOS.So i think I restarted with last known good... that had icons that did not work. Then I restarted in VGA mode. Then I restarted normally and it worked. But google redirected to a variety of pages. Now it won't connect to any website so it seems to be getting worse. I have been reading your website for months, and appreciate all the help you provide. Thanks, Cheryl{Mod Edit:Moved from XP to AII~~boopme}

I got bitdefnder total 2015 at first it seemed ok program I didn't care to much for the 2014 but I like the 2015 and running malwarebytes pro. I see there is such tool as RKILLER. What is some good tools to run before or after scans? Or speical tool to find them little hidden infections?

A:Must have tools to have with your virus/ and malwarebytes

RKill created by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), the site owner of BleepingComputer is a tool primarily designed to terminate the most common malicious processes that prevent other security tools from being executed, complete a scan or used to disinfect the system. When RKill is able to terminate malicious processes and fix certain registry keys, that action usually allows other tools to perform scans and clean up routines to remove the infection. Therefore a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or similar tool should be completed immediately after running RKill.Since RKill is not designed to be a comprehensive malware removal tool, using it is not required in all situations. If you are able to run other security tools without them terminating, there is no need to run RKill. However, if RKill is run separately without or after other security tools, it's log can provide useful information to help diagnose the presence of malware or report other issues as the developer (Grinler) added some basic enumeration to the tool for various infections. For example, Rkill includes Junction/Reparse point detection for ZeroaAccess. If found, the log will show: * ALERT: ZEROACCESS rootkit symptoms found! RKill provides Digital Signature Detection...it will scan various Windows files to determine if they are signed. If a signature is not detected on a file that should have one, RKill will report it. Rkill will also provide a list of possible replacement files (noted by [Pos Repl] tag) for the fi... Read more
