Q: Redirected searches (Firefox). MSE opens then closes immediately.

Hi,

I noticed lately that sometimes when I do a google search in Firefox and click on a link I'll be brought to some other ad/search site. When I open Microsoft Security Essentials to run a scan, it closes immediately. I ran a complete scan with Malware Bytes that did not find anything malicious, both in normal boot mode and safe mode. I booted into safe mode and ran a full scan with MSE and there were no threats found.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hi,

I noticed lately that sometimes when I do a google search in Firefox and click on a link I'll be brought to some other ad/search site. It could be going on for awhile; I don't normally use Firefox and only noticed this problem when I opened it a few days ago. I don't have this problem in Chrome. Anyway, when I put two and two together I went to open Microsoft Security Essentials to run a scan only to find that as soon as I open it, it closes. Usually within a second. I ran a complete scan with Malware Bytes that did not find anything malicious but quarantined a few files which I deleted.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hi All,

Internet Explorer (7 and 8) will open and close immediately under Vista Home Premium. I have tried the following:

1) Run IE in no adds-on mode. Does the same thing.

2) Reset all settings under the Internet Options Panel---when it gets to the third part 'Applying Default Settings' it fails.

3) Run Malware Malabytes in Safe Mode---nothing detected.

4) Install IE8 (wasn't working back when it was IE7), still no luck. Uninstalled back to IE 7, no working, and then back to IE8.

So, any ideas? I normally use Firefox and Opera, but there is one specific work-related website that requires some ASP scripting that neither Firefox or Opera can handle!

Thanks!

What is the app that you are trying to run? Is there not an update that will work with IE8, or at least a bug fix?

When was the last time this program was working properly?

I was trying to install updates on our desktop last night and had to roll back because the XP3 update could not install. Now IE does not work. I try to install IE8 through automatic updates and it cannot finish the installation. Also when I first logon to my machine, I get the messages cannot find and could not run or load C:\windows\inet2003\winlogon.exe.

A:IE opens then immediately closes

Its wise to make sure when you are doing updates and Service Packs to make sure the system is 100% malware free. With that said, why wold the SP3 not install? Did you recieve an error and if so what was the EXACT error message?

You can try to run the following command to see if any DLL files are missing/damaged.

sfc /scannow

Try also the install folder of the app you use with IE7, if there is a DLL called PSAPI.dll
if there is delete it or rename the file.

I just installed AIMMusicLink and all of a sudden AIM won't work. I try to run it and the screen flashes really quick and then closes. I uninstalled the music link program, reinstalled AIM 6.8, uninstalled 6.8 and installed 6.9 beta and then gave up and started using 5.9 which does work. Any ideas to why 6.8 won't work? I even searched the registry and deleted everything that had to do with musiclink but it still didn't work.

IE 11 opens and then closes immediately. The only way to open IE 11 is to right click on IE shortcut, select properties, then set to open minimized. Then click IE 11 on toolbar, and it opens. Setting IE 11 to Normal or Maximized causes IE 11 to open then immediately close. I have removed then re-installed IE 11, ran malewarebytes and ccleaner but IE 11 still has the same problem. I turned off GP rendering. I am out of ideas, does anyone have any other methods to try?

Run CCleaner-Slim or CCleaner-Portable & remove everything it finds, then try IE11 again. If that doesn't do it, go to Internet Options > Advanced tab, then click the reset button located near the bottom.https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/b...

Thought this would be a good place to ask this...if not, feel free to point me in the right direction.

I've had this problem ever since the first betas, thinking that it would eventually work or "be fixed"--but even the release candidate and now the final has the same issue.

When I install IE9, when I go to open up the browser (32 or 64), it opens for a split second and then immediately closes. Every single time. I've never seen IE9 open on this machine.

One of my thoughts on why would be that I have two hard drives in this machine--a 60GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I manually edited the registry entry for default install location / program files location to the E: drive, or 1TB drive, so I don't mistakenly install programs onto the SSD and clog up its limited space. For 95% of programs this has worked out just fine, including Microsoft's own Security Essentials (even though I'd love to have the option to put it on the SSD, but there's no options on where to install it).

Anyone else run into a problem like this? Is there a better solution than reverting that program files change? Now that I've had Windows running for a while I imagine changing that record will cause some...not so nice issues.

EDIT: And I just checked--IE9 is indeed installing to Program Files on the E:\ drive.

A:IE9 opens for a split second, then immediately closes.

For IE crashing, you probably want to try starting it from the command line first to see if it works this way - start > run > iexplore -extoff. If so, you have an add-on causing an issue, and can disable them via autoruns.

Hello FYI, I was referred to post here by MRT.Today I did Windows updates. Before updating, I had Win XP SP2 and IE6 (IE6 used to work fine). After updating, I had IE7 and XP SP3.After going to IE7 and XP SP3:IE will not work. IE flashes open and closes very fast. The text in the cmd prompt dialog box is now teeny tiny microscopic (was normal sized before).Wireless connection will not work. (worked fine before; now using ethernet connection to DSL modem).I found this topic on Microsoft's site:When you start Internet Explorer, it opens, flashes, and then closes immediatelyhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/967896Tried "resetting" IE, as per Microsoft's instructions.....didn't work.I uninstalled IE7, and IE6 still did not work. Downloaded IE8 and am about to install it, per Microsoft's instructions in above-referenced topic.Anybody ever heard of this, text in cmd prompt dialog box going teeny tiny after IE7 and XP SP3 updates, and what the fix is for this?Regarding the wireless connection not working after IE7 and XP SP3 updates:I right clicked wireless icon in tray area of taskbar, hit "Repair" and it was unable to "repair". Went back to Control Panel, Network Connections, right clicked on Wireless Network Connection, hit Properties, clicked TCP/IP, hit Properties. Hello,

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can uninstall the program then try the reinstall.

If still does not work try creating a new user profile. Create a new browser user profile - Google Chrome Help

If still having issue make sure that your antivirus is up to date and perform a scan on the PC.

See the thread below and try the recommended fix. Hopefully this helps

I click on the OneDrive icon on the Windows 8.1 Start screen and the app opens, then immediately closes. All other apps work OK.
I have tried the troubleshooters, reset the Store cache and uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive but the problem continues.
Another issue that is probably related is, although the Onedrive app is installed on the Start screen, it does not show on "My Apps" at "My Account" at the Windows Store.
Like I said above, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the OneDrive app several times but the situation remains.

Ran adaware and spybot- which took care of some files but problem persists. Have tried to install Hijackthis but anytime I type this word in google I am returned to desktop screen immediately. Hi All

I've got to the slitting wrists stage of this problem. I hope someone can help...

I've been getting the blue screen of death recently and upon checking my computer's error logs I found that it was a problem with my Radeon graphics card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Radeon software but the audio went. I couldn't find the audio driver (long story) so I did a system restore which worked - everything was back to normal. Or so I thought.

Next morning I tried to open IE but upon opening it closed immediately. I've done a bit of research (ON THE INTERNET AT WORK!) and have done a HijackThis log.

It may be a coincidnece but the other day my screensaver changed - it's now a black screen which says Oxigenscr V5.00.0000. Maybe this is a virus. Thank you for your help in advance

I'm having a problem with my computer that I just can't seem to solve. I first noticed while online I am having trouble typing in the address bar. When I attempt to type the text will highlight or delete itself. For example it I type www. It will highlight or just show ".w". Also the screen has a steady flicker. Typing in search boxes for yahoo or Google seems to work fine. I have also noticed that when I click on the start menu that it will not stay on. I comes on for a split second then closes. It gives me almost no time to open programs or anything else. Most drop down menus do the same. Another thing, anything highlighted in any program has a steady flicker.
What I done so far is to scan for a virus or malware with Spybot, Malwarebyte, Ad-Aware and AVG and so far everything is fine. . I'm running Win XP SP3 Intel CPU, 1.60 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM.
Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\Daily Backup.bks" /n "Backup 1" /d "Set created 3/21/2009 at 6:33 PM" /v:no /r:no /rs:no /hc:on /m normal /j "Daily Backup" /l:s /p "8mm AIT1"

What's causing this and how do I fix it?

Thanks

When I click on "MyComputer" or "Control Panel" from Startup button in Windows XP, a window opens for less than a second and closes.

I ran McAfee Virus Scan as well as Norton Antivirus scan. Virus was not found on my machine

During bootup time, XP used to take lot of time but deleting prizesurfer decreased the bootup time.

I work in the IT department at my company. I had a laptop sent in to me from another location. It had a BSoD with Stop: 0x00000024 I was able to get that fixed by doing chkdsk /r in recovery. Now I am having a lot of problems when it loads up. I cannot install anything. Malwarebytes or any program similar will not startup.IE will flash open then close immediately if tried to open it up. The user said the computer was installing updates after he had logged off of it last.I tried to uninstall SP3 but it would not let me do that, saying the file could not be found. Attached is a hijackthis file.EDIT: At startup a message box appears that says "Notification dll has not been registered, program will not work correctly."and another that says "Runtime Error! Program: ...ommon Files\Roxio Shared\0.0\SharedCOM\RoxWatchTray9.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more info."

Hello. I have noticed that an application/window opens and then closes immediately on my computer about once every 15 minutes. You can see for a split second the new bar in the start bar for the window but then it just disappears. This is especially annoying when playing video games, because it minimizes the games for the new window, and it just disappears anyway.

Is there any way I can see a list of opened applications or windows and in what orders and what times? Thanks

In my Access database (Office 2003, Windows XP) each record is associated with a file somewhere on disk. Some of these files are MS Word files and some are PDF files.

In the DB, the user has the option to click on a button to view the document.

When the user clicks on "View Document, I use the
Application.FollowHyperlink method to open the document file.

This works well except in the case of one particular computer where Adobe Acrobat is installed (instead of the usual Adobe Reader).

When I run the software on this computer, the Word document open correctly but when I try to FollowHyperlink to a PDF file, the document opens momentarily, then closes almost immediately. The document is in view for less than a second.

There is nothing wrong with the PDF document itself. When opened in the normal way on this computer, Acrobat opens it properly with no warnings or dialogues.

I am unsure whether the problem has anything to do with Acrobat versus Reader but it is the single difference that I can identify immediately. I will soon try this on other machines that also have Acrobat installed to see if the problem is the same on those machines.

Any ideas?

Looks like it may start to send/receive and then closes immediately. It has been prompting me every time I open it with this "archive folder" checking for a while, but the program has always run. This started first thing Friday after the send/receive. The archive.pst file is: 1,064,704KB and the Outlook.pst file is: 637,072KB. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this. I was able to install MBAM by changing the name and file extension to test.bat - the program would not run. I then was able to get the program to run by changing mbam.exe to test.bat. MBAM found the following: Trojan.DNSChanger, Trojan.FakeAlert, Trojan.Agent

MBAM removed them, MBAM returns clean results. Internet explorer still opens and closes immediately. All my software that requires a license opens and now claims it could not contact the license server or license expired.

Okay, for some reason when I try to start Firefox, I get the message:

"firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

behind it is the Mozilla Crash Reporter:

"Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts."

There is an option to restart firefox, but the same messages come up. I believe it might have had something to do with a virus I had, but Malwarebytes removed several trojans (Vundo I believe was one of them) and installed IE8. So far I've

- restarted the computer
- completely uninstalled and reinstalled firefox
- ran ccleaner & combofix
- ran malwarebytes
- manually uninstalled firefox, renamed the user profile folder in %APPDATA%

i cannot restore to an earlier date because of the virus scans and deleting virus files that were housed within restore data. Has anyone else encountered this issue or know a possible solution?

I could not produce a log from Malwarebytes or GMER as they close after a few seconds into the scan. Even in safe mode.

All google chrome related files can not be opened. "Windows cannot acess the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions"

Redirection of IE searches possibly related to 'Babylon'.

Help with removal of this will result in great reward!

Running on Windows 8 I have a problem where a blank Firefox (23.0.1) browser repeatedly opens and the closes about 10 seconds later, this happens roughly every minute.

I ran a Superanti Spyware Scan earlier today and discovered a Trojan and deleted it, from the log file:

Trojan.Agent/Gen-Bancos
    C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\COMMON FILES\SYSOBJECT\JS3260.DLL

I can't recall whether the firefox browser opening and closing happened before or after running this scan and subsequent action taken by Superanti Spyware but the problem has only appeared today.  Further scans using Avast, Superanti Spyware and Malwarebytes are clean, beyond tracking cookies but the issue continues.  I have used Uninstall Programs to remove Firefox, however even with Firefox uninstalled the browser window keeps reappearing.  I have re-installed Firefox after uninstalling.

Using Task Manager and its Details tab a new entry appears when this browser appears, and disappears when it closes, the file is a .exe file called update.exe located in Program Files(x86)/Common Files/sysobject, it bares the Firefox logo but doesn't disappear after Firefox has been uninstalled.  Scanning this file with the 3 malware detectors listed above gives no result.

When this file is sent to the recycle bin an error message pops up at the time when the next browser opening event should occur, http://s9.postimg.org/i8k9zevov/errormessgae.png  is a screen... Read more

I have performed spyware removal with multiple products which did find and remove a couple of issues.
However, my browsers continue to get redirected during searches. Captured the order of the redirects
from my history:

www.goingonearth.com/search.php?q=browser%2Bredirect%2Bfix&n=1306500334 (I had to type this link manually because it would not correctly copy and paste the info from the file. It would only copy/paste the words google.com)

From this point the redirects are random, but usually happen in pairs.

Hello,

I am having a problem updating various software programs that I feel are related to some problem with my computer. Software like Ad-aware SE Personal and AVG 7.5+8.0 both cannot update. I have researched answers to the error message I get in both programs, but none seem to work. Like I said, I feel that the this updating problem between the two is caused by something. Other problems that I am having with my computer is my internet connection. Using google in firefox, I sometimes get redirected to ad-sites. All I know is something isn't right with my computer. Thank you.

I was told by someone else in a forum section where I posted this to give my HijackThis log to this forum:

A couple months ago my searches started being redirected to random sites. I'm almost always using Firefox and searching with Google. They never seem to be the same locations where I am redirected. A recent example was Merchant Circle and a lot of the time it's just and IP Address. If I go back to the original search page and click on the real link again it will go to the correct site. But the next time I do a search it happens again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm stumped.

Thanks

The majority of searches are redirected to seemingly harmless sites. On a previous post (Dec 3, 09) I was told it is may be best to reinstall the OS and change passwords, etc. Before going to this last resort can I find out whatwhat malware is infecting the PC. I have had similar redirect problems in Sept/Oct and Nov 2009. With help from HJT team members the problems were found and fixed. If I have a backdoor trojan is reinstalling the best option? I have backed up a files, pics, music, etc.I ran scans from SpyBot, MBAM, McAfee with nothing found except an old Combo-fix file that MBAM deleted. attached are the DDS, RootRepeal and MBAM logs.I know you folks are swamped. Hi All. I've been having issues when I perform a search through Google. When I click on a link, I am taken to another search site. I have done some limited research and this seems to be more of a common problem than I realised. I installed Firefox thinking that maybe the issue was related to IE only, but this is happening on both softwares. I have hopefully followed the rules for this site, and I am posting below the results of the DDS.txt file.

I hope that someone can shed some light on what may or may not be correct on my laptop. Please note that this is first and foremost a work computer, so it does have Symantic Antivirus installed.

I have firefox running on a Windows 7 PC the 64 bit version.

This all started in the past day or so.

When i do a google search for say "youtube" Everything comes up normally, but when i click on the link it will redirect to a website trying to sell me a credit card or something. This will happen for about 10 minutes then goes away for a while and will eventually come back.

I tried updated my virus scan and anti-spyware, which did find and remove something, but the problem still persists.

This is really annoying and seems like it could potentially be a serious problem. I would appreciate any help you guys might be able to give.

Hello there,

I search in firefox (or IE) for "chicken soup". The results look normal in the descriptions, like wikipedia or allrecipes.com.
Then when you click on one it takes you to some junk site like:

www.wyp.net, www.findlinks.com, freescan.antivirus.com/chicken+soup.html
I guess my browser has been "hijacked"??
Earlier before finding this site I ran malbytes and had many infections, which I told it to remove. THis problem did not go away however. I do run up-to-date McAfee security.
THANK YOU!

Hello to Bleeping Computer. I need your help!

I have recently started having issues with Google searches in Firefox and IE being randomly redirected to other sites. Most are junk shopping sites, but many are 'anti-spyware' sites. When I started noticing the redirects I ran scans with McAfee, Spybot, Windows Defender, MalwareBytes and Ad-Aware and only MBAM found anything. But even after MBAM 'removed' the problem the redirects remain. Six or eight searches in a row will function properly, but then the hijacker takes over and I cannot get anywhere without multiple clicks. I have looked around a bit on my own using various viewing tools including Hijack This but other than deleting a few suspicious items (with no results) I'm not getting anywhere.

My primary anti-virus is the McAfee suite which comes free from my ISP. I do scans with MBAM, Spybot and Windows Defender from time to time. My firewall is up and functioning, and I am fully backed up on an outboard drive. I am running XP MCE SP3 on an HP m7674n and the machine is completely updated.

I have not had much in the way of other symptoms, however. My system seems to run normally, and is not visibly lagging. Internet operations other than Google searches seem fine. All of the malware programs update and execute normally. There does not seem to be any unwarranted traffic inbound or outbound, although the CPU usage will generally hover around 50% even at idle which seems high but may not be an actual issue. The only oth... Read more

A:Google Searches Redirected-Firefox and IE

Please disregard my issue as I had to resort to other measures. My machine was rapidly becoming unusable as more and more processes and applications became increasingly unstable or failed to function at all. I ended up wiping my disc and utilizing a mirror-image backup from a year ago. Many thanks just the same. You may close this topic.

Got a e-mail I thought was from a friend that sent me to a video link. It started loading and was taking a while (about 30 secs) I cancelled it. Anyhow it apparently loaded stuff on my machine. I found directions to locate and delete a.exe, b.exe, c.exe (turned off recover to delete and not sure how to turn it back on). Seemed like everything was good except not everytime I use a search engine (I use google or yahoo) the results come up but when I click on them it redirects to some other seach site. I can stop it by turning off Java, or bypass it by cutting and pasting the URL (if its readable ie: no .....). But it bothers me that there is something on my computer that doesn't belong there. Anyway, I've read a bunch of sites, they all seem to lead here by the way, and I can't figure out what to do. I've run MBAM (after I figured out the acronym) and have run adaware. I've downloaded someothers (can't remember the names) but they don't seem to find anything. Followed the directions and tried to download and run the DDS but it doesn't work. I have HJT downloaded if that helps. Please help me. While this doesn't really interfere with my day to day work it bothers me like I said above that there is something on my computer that doesn't belong there.(By the way I spoke to my friend, he didn't send the message and doesn't think it came from his computer.)

Machine is an Acer Aspire 5515 w/ Vista I try to keep chugging along for my wife.

Brief history; a friend sent a link to a page that had some serious herpes if you will.
I ran combofix and things seemed fine a few days ago. Now I'm getting IE popups to ep1c v1deo arcad3<dotcom> plus Firefox searches are redirected to infomash.

Based on finding another fellow's thread on here about redirected searches, I read his thread and went ahead and ran RSIT and GMER for log files.

Thanks; appreciate direction you can provide on de-herping the machine. If I'm being a dolt about forum procedure, do say so.

For many many months my family had a virus residing in their Dell computer. The virus made the computer extremely sluggish, the hard drive was working non-stop, and in both Firefox and IE8, Google searches were being redirected to a site which began with: adwords.myonlinesecure.com/xxx (where xxx was a long a cryptic bunch of numbers and letters). In the early stages of the virus, family members were logging into fake Paypal and AOL webpages that started asking for their SSN to log in and weird stuff like that.I don't have the name of the virus because a family member used the Microsoft Malware Removal Tool which got rid of PART of the infection (they did not record the name of the virus found) but the computer was still painfully slow and constantly writing/reading something on the hard drive. I could not find any more viruses with the anti-spyware and anti-virus programs I used (SuperAntiSpyware, MS Malware Removal Tool, Norton Antivirus, AVG Antivirus, Spybot). Googling the redirect address mentioned above revealed that other people with this virus fond it was living in the computer's master boot record.I decided to reformat the computer and do a full WinXP reinstall but the virus had to be eliminated from the mbr first. Just my luck, Dell computers have their own special master boot record so I copied part of an mbr form a healthy dell and overwrote JUST the boot code portion of my mbr using the instructions here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forum...t/193... My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have ZoneAlarm Anti-virus.In order to deal with this problem I have used Malwarebytes - no luck. (However, I have had a separate trojan which ran from my temp files today (seseextivj.exe, called Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Agent.asii by ZoneAlarm Anti-virus) which Malwarebytes seems to have dealt with). Both of these programs are updating normally - I have read of people having my problem and not being able to update or run security programs.I am preventing anymore trojan downloads by running the noscript extension in Firefox, which means that redirected google searches do not load up unpleasant websites. My ancient Windows XP Home Edition machine has started exhibiting odd behavior which is probably malware related. Specifically, svchost is crashing, and searches in Firefox-Google are redirected to ad pages. When I disconnect from my network/internet, almost nothing works (HijackThis, for example, won't launch).

I think I've followed the info gathering instructions correctly, please advise if I've left something out. I sincerely appreciate any help getting clean again.

Hi,

Please do the following:

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please in... Read more

Over the past week, my PC has been having a couple of issues;

-Antivirus 2010 spamming my screen telling me that I need to run spyware removal 'immediately before running any other programs'
-Redirected Google searches
-Firefox launch issues where the program must be executed a few times before the browser actually opens.

I restarted in Safe Mode and ran ComboFix, Malwarebytes, ESET Online Scanner and checked HijackThis scans for suspicious entries. I'm no longer being spammed with Antivirus 2010, but I'm continuing to have Firefox launch issues and redirected Google searches. When I finally manage to get Firefox to launch, its memory usage skyrockets to 112,560k (currently). Additionally, I get random errors which prompt me to shut down/report a Win32 process. My PC seems to run fine until I do anything with Firefox.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I was recently infected with the Vista 2012 Security Virus. I followed all the instructions from one of your forums and removed the virus. I can now access my e-mail and the internet but am now being redirected to random sites. Since the virus, I also keep getting a pop up message for Adobe Flash Player 11.1 Installer every few minutes. I am not sure if this is fake but I never got that popup until I had the Vista virus. I am not very computer savey and really need help. Thank you.

Hey there. I've recent been having problems with Firefox/Google Chrome where my searches are being redirected to random sites when I click on the results. In addition the spellcheck function doesn't work if this searches are mistyped. I've tried several different programs with no success in fixing the matter. Among them are Dr. Web Cure it. As well as Malwarebytes which caused my computer to crash both times I tried using when it reached a file called zipfldr.dll

I've looked around at a couple sites but as nothing seems to be working I thought I'd give this a try. Any help would be apperciated, and it only seems to be affecting Firefox, and Chrome. Oh, and in addition to the redirect it's highlighting random phrases within the webpage with something called Clicksor, as well as the redirects going through something called 123bounce.

I have downloaded IE11 directly from Download IE Here Before that though I tried getting IE9, 10 and 11 through the Windows Update process. IE8 works on my laptop but I cannot get Direct x to function properly on http://www.moac.microsoftlabsonline.com I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling via the "Turn Windows features on or off" section of the control panel. Also reset IE through the control panel. Followed the instructions from this page as well. Internet Explorer opens, flashes, and then closes immediately when you start it Here is the link to the thread that suggested I seek help here.

Other browser (Firefox) works fine. I rarely use IE and only need it now to do the lab work for the 2 MOAC courses I am taking.

Following the instructions for this forum, I have run dds.scr and gmer.exe. DDS.txt is pasted below; ark.txt and atttach.txt are zipped together in the attachment. I am having the same problem. I have tired resetting, I ran sfc and no issues were found. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling. Also tried the tweaks from majorgeeks.com. I have tried IE9 via update and IE11 via update and also from downloading. Also I just finished a clean install on a tower and have the exact same issues there. I am desperate here. I need IE to complete MOAC labs. Both machines are running Win7 64bit. Laptop has Home Premium and the new tower is Pro. Both machines have the OS on one partition with registry point program files to a second partition.

In our client we are facing the below issue in only 4 machines.

When we open Internet Explorer 11 in the machines, it freezes for some time and then closes automatically. No error is getting recorded in the even viewer. Tries to launch the IE by disabling the add ons and by enabling the use software rendering instead of
GPU rendering. Disabled the script also but no use. When i tried to uninstall IE 11 and use the old version of IE it works fine.

MS Word 2000 SR-1 closes immediately on launch. My operating system in Microsoft XP Pro. I've removed the program and reinstalled it, restarting the system after each action. I've updated AVG and run it, then restarted the computer, but no luck. Any ideas?

A:Word closes immediately

yes, here an idea
though, you have remove the application from your computer, you system have kept some files from old installation.
not to worry, this can be fixed by purging all MS Office files from your system.

let us start with add/remove programs & remove MS Office 2000
click Start, Run & type regedit & OK. browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office. right click that folder & choose the delete option.
go to C drive, Programs Files, & delete Microsoft Office from there. (don't worry if you receive an error of some files can not be removed, will just do it after reboot)
if the last step gave u an error, please reboot & delete after reboot (don't open any applications or browsers)
reboot
click Start, Run & type %TEMP%, the click OK. (delete all items within the folder that opens)
reboot
reinstall MS Office 2000
this should fix your issue. please let me know how it goes

This is primarily a informational post for those interested.. I found this post http://forums.techguy.org/malware-r...regedit-msconfig-closes-immediately-upon.html and wanted to reply but it was closed.

I just copied my drive over using Western Digital's Data Lifeguard utility. Upon rebooting (and making sure the new drive was selected in the bios to boot from) I encountered 2 problems..

1: the boot menu (which had not previously been enabled) now showed two entries for "Default system", both which worked, but was annoying to me..
2: msconfig would not work for me to check the startup and boot.ini.

I ran through a lot of steps trying to get msconfig to work again.. copied the file to a different location, rename it as a different filename, check for virus/malware, even copied it from my laptop, and checking the registry entries.. Nothing would let this program run!
As far as antivirus programs, I run Avast! .. I was POSITIVE I had no virus malware, etc. Even still, I ran a boot time virus sweep. NOTHING found. Even ran HijackThis.. again nothing. After MUCH searching on Google and even these forums, I simply resigned myself that I was going to need to do a repair install (which I hate doing). I decided to check one last thing first.. manual edit of the boot.ini.

When I opened it up and compared to my laptop running the same version of the OS (Win XP Pro sp3) I noticed it was missing an entry .. the information under [operating systems] (second entry) was b... Read more

Hi, you need first to download Windows XP Service Pack 3
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24
You are missing out on important Windows Update and your Pc is not protected.
------
Once you have installed SP3 - restart your Pc and check for Windows Updates.

When that is done - post a New Hjt log.
-------
Download Security Check by screen317 from
http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
Or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/securitycheck/

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click the install icon.
Let it scan the Pc - press any key when asked.
It should now open in Notepad.
Copy and Paste the result of the scan in the reply box below.

The saved log will be called checkup.txt.

My browser is redirected upon searches at Yahoo and Google to mock sales and ad sites. Being more than a newb, but less than an expert, I have tried to identify the problem myself, but to no avail. Whenever I open up either browser (when there is not an instance of it running), I get several tabs that will pop up as well and go to the redirect sites, which are often mock-sales sites, ad sites, etc..

I do not know how to fix this issue. This is the first time I have been unable to fix an issue with malware on a computer, it's somewhat emasculating.

Per instructions, I have run DDS and RootRepeal. DDS log is below, Attach and ark are attached.

My google start page keeps coming up in German. I set the home page to google.com/ncr, but I know there's still a problem. I've been through the forums and i know that other people have had similar problems, and I've read how they have had their problems fixed. I've tried many different things to get my problem fixed, but nothing seems to ever work.

I suspect that i have multiple problems that may or may not be related to each other, but either way I cannot do certain things to fix anything.

The problems that I have noticed are:
1. Home page for internet explorer changes to http://www.nuevaq.fm/ even when I change it back to what I want.
2.a)HijackThis opens, then lasts about 1-4 seconds, then automatically closes
b) Whenever I type Hijack This in internet explorer, whether on google, or any site, Internet Explorer closes within seconds (making it almost impossible to search for help regarding Hijack This)
3. Regedit/msconfig open for a split second then close again (task manager and antivirus sites do still work)

It'll really help me if you guys could tell me an alternate software which could fix this problem or better still guide me through the process of getting rid of this problem..

FYI: I wanted to post the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs forums but whenever i visit the subforum my browser automatically closes...

please help me thanks in advance

Internet Explorer 7.

There is a particular page of just one website that brings up the following message the second it has loaded: 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.'

It's a multiple choice bullet page for placing an order at the pizzahut.co.uk site!!

I can logon just fine, but as soon as I navigate to the problem page the error is thrown up. It bugs me enough to tell you about it here!

Can anyone suggest a remedy for this? I just want to be able to order a pizza without the damn error!

Very curious that it only happens with this page and on this site only.

Not the most serious problem in the world I admit, but any help appreciated of course.

Thanks.

OK, this is what's going on...

This particular game doesn't require much out of my machine. I've ran this game 5-6 times over just to see and it still ran smoothly, so I know for fact it has nothing to do with hardware (especially because I can still run much more graphically/processor intensive games). Just getting that out of the way.

I have played this game, unchanged, many-a-time pretty much every day, then one day it simply quits working. No update to the game (it does not update automatically), no change whatsoever. It'll just open and immediately close before any kind of content, color, or image is loaded. The whole process of me attempting to run the game and it closing takes less than a second.

I've tried spamming the game to see if maybe a 1 in 100 shot will randomly open it. This didn't work.

I have removed all my firewalls and antivirus, just for sake of testing purposes. This didn't work. Yes, I rebooted.

I have absolutely completely uninstalled the game, then reinstalled it. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

I have tried running as Administrator, or even just disabling the UAC altogether. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

It's an online game. Windows Firewall is disabled, all my ports are open, nothing is justifying what's going on here.

The two previous Firewalls/Antivirus I had were McAfee and Avast.

I am on Windows 7.

A:Game closes immediately after opening

What game and what are you exact PC specs (make and model if its a big brand name, or make and model of motherboard, cpu, gpu, ram, harddrive, power supply including wattage, optical drives etc.)?

At the moment, all you are saying is a random game doesn't work on a undefined machine ... thats not a lot to work with

When i open the Internet Explorer, it will open then immediately close. I was able to pinpoint the problem at my home page (www.google.com). I opened IE again, stopped it quickly from opening the home page and then entered another web page. It worked. Then i went back to the home page and it closed again. So whenever i enter the home page the program will shut itself. I also use Firefox as web browser and it doesnt do the same thing. Any help will be appreciated.

My computer had/has a bug that will sleep, but not die. EasySearch is the bug and it is really pesty. My anti-spyware provider is close to finding an effective pesticide. I have overcome most problems, but I also have downloaded 5 browsers, IE, Firefox, Opera, Avant & NetCaptor to compare them. Now something different has occurred. IE, Firefox and Opera will open certain websites I like to visit, e.g. consumerworld.org and then promptly close the window. Avant and NetCaptor do not do this. I'm leaning toward Firefox as my preferred browser.

Question 1. Can you give me some advice as to how to make IE, Opera and Firefox keep these auto-closing windows open?

This is my first post. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Gary

A:Browser & Hijack closes Immediately

You computer is obviously infected. Are you saying you cannot post in the Malware Removal & HijackThis logs forum? Possibly caused by the name HijackThis?

Can you download the program after booting in Safe Mode with Networking?

Is so,

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.
Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

I cannot open IE7 - or any other browser on my laptop (I am using our desktop to enter this). The window says connecting for about 5 seconds, but it never connects and the window just closes. I have run Norton Antivirus, Adaware and Spyware Terminator and no viruses have been found. Please help me fix this problem - I don't even know where to begin trying to fix it since I can't access the Internet from the machine.

Hi,
I am running Windows 2000 on my machine here at work. I had Office 2000 Professional installed and all was well. A few weeks ago I installed a CAD reading program called Volo View and sometime there after all my problems started. All of my office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) close only a few seconds after opening any one. I have removed both softwares and tried reinstalling Office. I also removed Volo View out of the registry also and it still shuts down. I found a MS fix to edit the registry by deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0 and then reinstalling Office from an administrator profile which didn't help. I have run Spybot, Adaware and CW Shredder, in an attempt to remove anything that may have come about via the internet and none have solved my problem. Below is my Startup Log and HijackThis Log. Thanks for any help that can be relayed...

when removing Office 2000 to correct problems, make sure you run OFF2000: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office CD1 Files and Registry Entries and OFF2000: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office CD2 Files to clean up any leftovers the uninstall left behind

Here's some MS KB articles that might help with the programs closing problem . . .
Office 2000 programs quit immediately on Windows 2000 when you are logged on as user
Error messages starting Office 2000 program, or program immediately quits on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000
OFF2000: Program Quits Immediately After Installing Project or Visio, not necessarily the same issue, but you can try it, if all else fails.

I know this has been addressed in previous posts but none of the solutions I found worked for me.

Upon starting my computer, opening regedit isn't possible. I get an error message saying: "Regedit is disabled by administer." To fix this, I run (every time I turn on my netbook) the following statement: REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

This allows me to open Regedit, but it immediately closes again.

I have started working in Sierra Leone and know my computer has many viruses on it. Still, none of my anti-virus software (I use AVG Free 9.0 and PandaSecurity ActiveScan 2.0) has solved this problem.

Below please find my HJT log. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

I'll start with my current setup:

I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 on a Dual HDD setup, 120GB SSD/1.5TB Spinning. I have installed Windows on the SSD and I have set the Registry to expect Program Files and Program Files (x86) in the D drive.

So far, so good, except IE will not start. It flashes on the screen and immediately closes. It's getting frustrating. I've tried the Microsoft solution, and even re-registered all the .dll's for IE.

At this point, I have no idea what to do next. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I would really prefer not to set Program Files and (x86) back to C drive, but I might have to if I want IE to run. And yes, I run a different browser primarily, I'd just like to know IE is functioning.
