A: Can't down malwarebytes. Error 5 - Access denied

Do you have a thumb drive (USB Memory Stick) handy?
Does your PC have two partitions, one for the operating system and another for your data?
Is there another computer in the house?

You don't need all of the above.
I'm feeling out what resources you have and will make the job as easy for you as possible.

Hi, I've had tcrdmain.exe pop up and a number of other issues (redirecting from google) and malwarebytes seems to be recommended so I downloaded it and saved to my desktop. I had already downloaded rkill and ran it. (I'm in safe mode with networking). I also downloaded and ran the TDSS (kasperksy)but that came up with nothing. When I tried to install malwarebytes I recieved the error message "Access is Denied" Please help!!!!

I've removed volsnap rootkit. I've restored the missing start menu folders and shortcuts out of the smtmp folder in the temp directory. But now it appears that what ever version of this fraud virus that was on here is, it has changed the permissions on some of the folders so that i can't install Malwarebytes and/or update the version that is already on the computer. When I try to run Malwarebytes update, it says its already up to date which i know is incorrect, and the date is blank under the current database information section. When I try to reinstall mbam-setup.exe, the install makes it to the part where it says "Saving uninstall information...", and windows pops up a Setup window, "Access is denied". I hit ok and another window pops up, "Error", "Setup was not completed. Please correct the problem and run Setup again", I hit ok, and the computer roles back the installation. How can I fix the permissions? And I fear I probably need to fix the permissions on more than one folder....Here are the contents of the dds.txt file. .DDS (Ver_2011-06-12.02) - NTFSx86 NETWORKInternet Explorer: 8.0.7600.16385Run by ROB at 10:29:45 on 2011-06-18Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 6.1.7600.0.1252.1.1033.18.3061.2229 [GMT -4:00].SP: Windows Defender *Enabled/Updated* {D68DDC3A-831F-4fae-9E44-DA132C1ACF46}.============== Running Processes ===============.C:\Windows\system32\wininit.exeC:\Windows\system32\lsm.ex... I'm using a Dell laptop running Windows XP Professional.
Both AVG (ver 8) anti-virus free and Malwarebytes found a "Trojan horse Downloader.Zlob_r.CR" called "a.exe" in the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Local Settings\Temp\a.exe. Only AVG found a "Trojan horse Generic8.ACDJ" at C:\Downloads\Deep Freeze Unfreezer\Win2k_XP\DeepUnfreezer1.6.exe. AVG could not "heal" the files and said "access denied". Malwarebytes also couldn't remove it.

When I went tried to open the "username" folder in Windows Explorer it will not open and says "Access denied". The same happens when I try to open the "Deep Freeze Unfreezer" folder. I have tried opening these folders in Safe Mode with command prompt and I get an "Access is denied" message again.

Also, neither AVG (version 9, now) nor Malwarebytes find any virus.

Just a little background, I'm a network engineer and am pretty familair with virus/malware removal tools. I've ran malwarebytes and combofix countless amounts of times. I have not been stumped in over a year. I've got one that pretty much has me which is why I am here. I've recently ran into two PC's where combofix only gets access is denied errors. There is a dns hijack for the malwarebytes website. Once installed or even renamed before and after malwarebytes is installed it will not update, and it crashes after four seconds. There was initially a black screen with red letters saying the computer is infected. The PC is from a client, but I have it at my office to research. I am not familair with GMER etc so I just need someone to review the logs. Like I said this is the second one now at two different companies I have not been able to remove. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have read a bit and tried a few different things suggested on these forums with similar topics. Nothing has been successful yet. Here are the logs from dds and gmer.EDIT: Posts merged ~BP

hi,

Seem to be infected by windows xp repair as acting exactly as described in virus, spyware, & removal guides, including hiding all the files.

I am in safe mode and have tried to follow the automated removal instructions but both rkill and malwarebytes start but then say access denied. Have also run tdsskiller but says clean?

I have now followed the guide for requesting help and have pasted the dds text report but seem not to beable to attach the other two logs?.

Reading another post about XP security 2012 (same type of infection?) it says run fixexe.reg before rkill. I have not tried to run fixexe.reg...should I? and I have not disabled avg.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

This is the trojan that looks like it's trying to fix you computer - and it causes files to disappear and error messages etc.

Before I realized how deep this rabbit hole goes I ran a scan with MSE and it discovered a fakesysdef trojan which it removed but still I can't view my files.

After that I downloaded malwarebytes but it won't install - I am getting an "Access is denied" error.

Attached is the output from DDS.

A:Display Recovery + fakesysdef + malwarebytes install Access is denied

It turns out that I got it all put back together. MSE removed the virus that hid all the files and shortcuts so it didn't start up after a fresh boot. After that I ran mbam-clean.exe to resolve the malware bytes install access denied error. Then I installed malwarebytes, did a scan and removed one infection in the registry. Next I ran unhide.exe to restore visibility to all my files, desktop, etc. The only things missing were start menu items (All programs was fully restored) and the task bar items. Maybe MSE gobbled them up.

Anyway - all is well.

Hello I am unable to access my task manager on Windows 7 as administrator. Whenever I try to access it a Command window flashes on the screen quickly and that's it. Same thing happens when taskmgr.exe is clicked.

I was able to capture the command window error as the following:

C;\Users\<name>\Documents>REG and HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System  /v  DisableTaskMgr  /t  REG_DWORD  /d  /0  /f

Any help with this would be appreciated. I have checked that TaskMgr is enabled in the registry, and have ran AVG and Malwarebytes and they didn't come up with anything.

Thanks again for any help on this one.

A:Unable to access Task Manager - Error: Access is denied

blue gravity,

Please confirm that the command that is attempting to execute is the following:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
This command is trying to enable task manager but the command prompt that is trying to enable task manager does not have the permissions to do that.

Please try the following:

Click Start
Type cmd
Right click cmd.exe
Select Run as administrator
type "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f"
Press enter
Close cmd.exe

Try to open task manager

Thank you,

When I first log on, and the desktop comes up a message saying at the top "Error" and below that "Access Denied" comes up in a little box. If you click ok it will keep coming back about 10 to 15 times and will then cease. This will only happen on a limited account, not my admin rights account. I've checked if any abnormal processes are going but see none. Norton 2005 says that there are no viruses.... what going on?!?!

A:Error Access Denied

You may have an account that cannot be accessed by a limited account in the "all users" startup menu. Limited users cannot access any programs that write to the registry.Download Startup Inspector which is much easier to use than msconfig as it identifies startups by the programs they are related to.Startup Inspectorhttp://www.windowsstartup.com/download.phpDisable all unnecessary programs from starting. (click on the all startup items at the top of the list on the left)Be careful not to disable your firewall or av ap.You might like Startup Monitor as well (on the same page). It notifies you and requires your permission when any ap tries to add itself to your start menu.

I recently upgraded my entire computer (motherboard, harddrive, the works). I kept both of my old drives, and installed a new one. One of my old hard drives was converted to an external (not enough room in the case).

I'm trying to access My Documents on my (now) external hard drive, but whenever I try to look at these files, it tells me that access is denied.

Any ideas/suggestions as to why this is and what I can do about it?

Hi Minnesota1, welcom to Sevenforums

I had this yesterday with a package of other problems.
Can you explain more about the issue? What type of environment your in, what user rights you have, where the program is running from?
A first suggestion would be to right click on the application, go to the compatibility tab, and select 'run as administrator'

Hi and welcome

I assume the E drive was in another os. To change right click the drove>properties>security> add you user name to the group that has read , write, modify access. Save and that should be it.

I hope someone out there can help,as this is my last resort.

Whenever I am attempting to install anything that I have downloaded, I receive this error message. "Error-Access is Denied" // (no error number)

I have scoured the internet, and have tried everything that is out there. Turning off UAC, Running as (and from) administrator, taking ownership of a lot of different files/folders, turning off any/all firewalls, enabled the hidden administrator account and tried from there, as well as running CHKDSK and SFC with no problems found. I have restored to my earliest restore point as well, unfortunately it must not be early enough.

I hope someone can help me, my last option of reinstalling Windows 7 would be difficult, as I have lost my disc.

Thanks a lot for any help

AJ

I was having some malware problems on my system and a friend recommended running combofix to solve them.

While running combofix, windows vista x64 popped an error saying that Pev.cfxxe had stopped responding and that it was searching for a solution. Then the window changed and only gave me the option to close the program. I waited 30 mins before I finally did close the program and then combofix seemed to complete normally and generate its log file.

I think that combofix changes folder permissions when it is run and some of mine did not get changed back because after combofix finished, I tried to install a program update. I reveived the following error:

Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied.

I have never had this error before running Combofix, I am not blaming the program. I know that sometimes "stuff" just happens. Does anyone know if Combofix changes folder permissions? If it does, how can I get them back to the default permissions.

I have uninstalled combofix as per the instructions on bleeping computer and used the system restore point that combofix generated before running, but I still have the same problem. I can right click on the setup file and run it as administrator, but I have never had to do that before.

Anyone have any suggestions?

A:Error 5: Access is denied

Something has tampered with your User Profile Settings - System error 5 is an Privileges error you may receive this error if you do not have the rights to edit the Certain file/folder ... etc,

It is most commonly seen in Command Prompt when Users do not have permission to edit or Run certain commands

could you please create a new Administrator User and try what you have done without the Need to run it as administrator

Many thanks,
Josh

Booting up my Windows Vista Home Proffesional My WIFI would not connect, after a few minutes I realised that DHCP service and the Diagnositic service was not started.

However when I try and start any of there services I am shown "Error 5: Access is Denied" However with any other service I can start and stop them fine.

Im thinking it is something to do with these services loging into the Local Service account and maybe this account has lost privlages.

I have tried system restore multiple times back to many different dates where the system was working correctly.

Thanks,

Hi AshleyM. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista!

I would suggest that you try to start the questioned services via an Elevated level. Perform the following:

START | type services.msc into the Start Search box | right click on same | select Run as Administrator | The Services console should appear

Please let me know how you make out.

Hello, I have been getting Error 5: Access denied for a few days. I cannot install new programs; this error will always just pop up.

I've scanned for viruses (a lot showed up, but were cleaned. My AV is Comodo.), tried a System Restore, but all my restore points are gone except for the ones today, using the built in administrator account, using the "Run as administrator" option, and making a new account. Nothing has worked.

Running Xp Pro sp2
While searching thru the forum I saw one or two other access denied postings. They all knew the program they were working with. I don't know what I did.
The other day I reinstalled my HP printer and camera. Decided to go to msconfig startup, and uncheck them did not need them to run all the time. A day or two before I downloaded a program called cloned cd 42.02 and left the start up alone. While in startup I decided to uncheck all unneeded programs. Received this error: Access denied error returned while attempting to change a service. Youmay need to log on as adminstratr to make the specified changes. Well, I am the administor.

As my name states I am not a techie so I decided to go to system restore and restore to a point before any of these were installed. My system restore was turned off. Do not remember ever turning it off. So back to msconfig and tried to delete and after restarting every uncheck I got rid of all the run in the back programs. But, still get the message.

Tried to change name of administrator still denied access. Ran in normal mode and safe mode.

Deleted the program cloned cd Reinstalled program. Everything else seems to run great.

Can this hurt the computer if I dont get rid of it.

very but hopeful you will help

I've looked for an answer to this challenge but so far the best I can do is joono's posting of 13 July 2006 http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/482888-installing-xp-service-pack2.html?highlight=joono that ended in the conclusion that the offending copy of XP was pirated. I know for a fact that my copy is legal, I got the discs it direct from microsoft, so that should not be an issue.

I did the SP2 install thing and after about 20 minutes I got an 'Access is denied' error after which the removal wizard unravelled everything and I was back to square one. After a bit of research I came across http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148, which looked promising, and followed the very clear instructions as far as step 2.e. but I cannot find an error that looks like the one illustrated. The latest Error 5: Access is denied strings appear in the setupapi.log file in the lines:

These pop up errors keep coming up even when my computer is just sitting there. I think it's linked to visual basic command line compiler. I'm thinking it's either a worm or that visual basic is malfunctioning and I should reinstall? I've tried 4 different antivirus programs (WSS, AVG, Avira, Trend Micro Housecall) half said there was a problem but couldn't do anything because the infected file is inaccessible and the other half doesn't detect anything. Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Try rebooting in Safe Mode and go in as the Administrator account. If you can get to start the Windows Installer service in there it will be a case of trawling through the Help & Support menu under a search heading of "Permissions" to get your own username account granted all the powers you may ever need.

Ok, I have a quick question regarding the admin. tools on the windows XP system. There are three accounts on my computer, one for myself, my brother, and my family. My brother made it so that my account has no admin/user abilities whatsoever, and when I try to change it, it gives me the error. This happens when I try to download things as well, and it's very irritating. Is there ANY way to get around this? No, I cannot simply go on my brother's account and change it because my brother's acct has a pw. Is there any other way? TY.

Greetings techspot,
Ive been reading techspot for a while now and just joined cause now I have a problem maybe all you tech heads out there can solve.

The first problem is that i do NOT have a windows disk on me, im on vacation and internet is my only resource.

Second, After a long bout with 100's of virus's i believe my pc is now clean, but my RPC is not able to start. If i bring up Services.msc it will come up as normal but if i try to activate anything it says "Error 5: access denied". Ive done some research and came up with a few unsuccessful solutions. First was editing it through regedit and trying to turn it on in the registry, also tried associating it with my hardware profile in the registry as well, following microsofts instructions (sorry cant post link)
and instructions left by others with my problem online. All are unsuccessful.

Ive read something about altering my policies through gpedit.msc or secpol.msc though i have very limited experience with policies and modifying them. I have attempted to reload the default policies but to no avail.

Since my RPC is not on, everything on my pc is limited to performing less than safemode.

Ive searched everything everywhere using every search engine, and no help... Please someone help me. Sorry for the massive wall of text.

[Problem 1]
RPC not running
[Problem 2]
Cannot modify Services in services.msc
[Problem 3]
Cannot boot into safemode normally

Hi, I just recently moved a folder out of a larger folder. The larger folder was part of the video library. Now when I got to the video library the folder I moved out of it is still there but now it won't let me open it or delete it. I believe it is empty because the new version is where it is supposed to be with no problems but I'd like to get the bad folder out of my video library. The error tells me that the folder is not available and Access denied. Any ideas?

This is a permissions issue but are you sure that you want to move library folders? It can cause all sorts of problems. Is there a specific reason for the move?

I am trying to use MSConfig System Configuration Utility to turn off some of the startup items on my laptop.

If I go to the startup tab and make any change, when I click the Apply button, I get this message:

"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes."

I am now using the Administrator account on this laptop. There's only one main account, and that's the one I'm now using, and it is set as the Administrator account, so this message should not be popping up.

Not sure how to deal with this one.

Any help appreciated.

I have a laptop running Vista home premium in a network environment. Server is running Small Business Server 2003. For almost 3 years I have been able to utilize this machine on the network despite it being a home edition. I have a couple of mapped network drives that I would just have to provide network log-on credentials to access. However, starting today I am no longer able to access the network or server at all, even by manually browsing to the server using \\sbs1. When trying to manually browse to a network drive or the server, I get the error message #0x80070005 saying that Windows cannot access \\sbs1, etc. I can ping the server from a command prompt without problem. When I try accessing mapped networked drives, instead of being prompted for log-on credentials I get an "Access denied" message. For one mapped network drive, I do get prompted for credentials, however, no matter what I log in with (myself, which is an administrator account, or the administrator account) I get a message saying "Multiple Connections to a server or a shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to this resource and try again." I'm puzzled why I have had no problems for almost three years until today out of nowhere. I tried a System Restore to last week before this started occurring to no avail.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello All, Can somebody help with an error message I keep getting on my parents desk top PC running 'Vista' each time I try and install my new Epson DX 8400 printer from the installation CD. It installs upto the Epson file Mangager which then gives me the following error message: 'access is denied (0x5). There is also more error message pertaining the the C:\Programmes etc etc but I have not written this down yet. I have contacted Epson technical whom have informed me this is a Vista problem so I tried to install the same printer on my PC running Vista and it was successful first time and it also installed the desk top icon for the Epson File Manger utility. Incidentally, my parents PC is still able to print from the Epson but that is all, there is no utility hence the error message which just leaves me confused. Does anybody know a simple fix for this problem.

Many thanks in anticipation !

Hi Folks,

I am running Windows Vista RC2 on a Dell Inspiron E1505. All drivers working, everything is great EXCEPT for

whenever I run an application installer directly from IE or even Mozilla i.e. any applications that places files during installation in my

Users/User/AppData/Local/Temp directory I get an Acess Denied Error.

Now my user account is an Administrator level account and I have even changed the permissions for the TEMP folder to allow Everyone and Users full access.

So I tried going into the TEMP folder myself and running the files created by an installer and it still would not let me run it.

Any ideas???

Is this to do with Vista or the program itself? It worked fine on XP. If its a Vista thing does anyone know how I can get around this or if there is a download fix?

Hi, I recently had a computer crash and die, it was an old computer, I don't know what went wrong, I don't really care now because I realize it was old and got a new computer. Anyway I knew my hard drive was still good and I have important data on it that I needed, so i removed it and bought a hard drive enclosure. I hooked it up to my new computer and everything is coming up fine, but my "e://documents and settings/owner/" folder. That was the administrative account document folder that I used for my work. When I try to open it it's giving my an 'Access Denied" error. I can access all the other accounts just fine. I think it's maybe administrative / password related somehow, but I did not have a password set on the account that I can recall, I actually remember manually setting it to 'none'. If anyone can offer any advice I would so appreciate it! The main reason I bought the enclosure was because I need all the documents I have in that folder.

Hello to you,
guys please tell what the hell is going on with this IE 11 error. There are many sites that I cannot use because of this. Looks like IE 11 security takes over. I tried almost everything , tried to enable cross domain, add to secure websites, enable scripting
- NOTHING WORKS. The same sites have no problems in FF and Chrome or Edge. Here is an example , when I try to play this in full screen or click on it - just black screen.

The same goes with some forum windows, buttons. On click - there is no reaction at all. I know this is sth. connected to inbuilt security issue but I tried so many things.

So looking forward to hearing from you,

When connecting from one Vista machine to another (laptop to server), I'm getting a 'access denied' error msg when tring to see the contents of the c:/on the server. I have permissions and sharing setup. I'm ultimately trying to get Peachtree Accounting software setup. When I try to connect databases, it won't let me connect the laptop to the server sitting in another room. On the server I've basically set all the permissions to wide open so that any computer can connect to it, yet nothing will. This is very frustrating because this is the bosses computer and he needs to get this installed ASAP. I can see the server and all the drives, but trying to access anything will get me an access denied error. There are no passwords on this network as this is a very small company. I've been looking at all the blogs and some other help sites and I haven't seen anything that helps.

I know this has to do with some bum HP printer software, but I can no longer find the solution in the MS Knowledge Base for some reason. When I make changes to Startup Items in msconfig.exe and close the utility, a messge pops up saying maybe i do not have administrator privileges, but i do. i think the changes i make to Startup are saved, but it's jarring to get the error message each time.

You are correct stating it has something to do with HP printers. The only thing I found on the subject with a solution is http://www.ehow.com/how_4531999_fix-access...rror-using.htmlThe solution there involves editing the registry. IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE THOUGHT OF REGISTRY EDITING, DO NOT DO IT.

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium desktop. I use a VPN for work (through them) and have 1 link from my work programs that gives me an Error: Cache Access Denied.  It has a Windows Security prompt asking for a username and password.  I have never had to log into this program before.  It's for RTM which is a real time monitor.  I contacted our support center for assistance and he tells me that my Windows User Profile is the issue.

Here's what I have done so far.
a. Made sure there is no proxy in IE options > connections > LAN settings.
b. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java.
c. Ran Malaware Bytes.
d. Ran Ccleaner multiple times.
e. Cleared my java and IE cache
f.  I've even rebooted my network.
g. I reset all of my internet explorer settings to default settings.

Nothing has helped.  I even tried to do a system restore with no luck.  I'm at my wits end and close to reformatting, but I really don't want to.

I do not get the error on my laptop.  Windows did some updates last evening, but yesterday it worked fine.  My computer works perfectly fine except getting the error.  I receive it in all browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox).  I have IE 10.

Any help would be appreciated.

As posted earlier, I have encountered a serious problem accessing my hard drive and booting up Windows XP. I am running windows XP on a Dell 8400 dimension workstation. As mentioned in my previous posting I am getting the infamous blue screen of death with the error message 0x0000007B.I suspect that I am a victim of a virus . As suggested I ran a repair from a Windows CD recovery disk and it seemed to run okay and indicated that everything was fine however when I rebooted I still received the same old blue screen. . As mentioned in my previous post, Help Mode is of no help as the options all lead me back to the blue screen. Therefore I tried something different.

I booted up from the Windows Recovery CD and when prompted hit the letter R on the first screen which placed me into a C:\windows prompt. From there I was able to go to the root directory and I was able to list the folders that have my data in them. However when I attempted to open these folders I received an error message of "Access is denied" and could go no further. I checked the attributes on these directories and they are only showing an attribute of d=directory. I tried different things with the attrib command to see if I could get around the access problem but to no avail.

I ran a chkdsk /p and it came back indicating that there were no problems. I am running out of options and am quickly reaching the point where I am considering doing a complete reinstall of windows, however I don't want to lo... Read more

I hope this is the right place for this question...didn't see another sub-forum that sounded appropriate.

Today I was having networking problems, and thanks to some help over on the Networking sub-forum, changed my workgroup to MSHOME so I could see Windows XP systems on my network from my new HP Windows 7 (Home Premium) laptop. Good stuff.

However...I may have broken something pretty serious. My account is set up as an administrator, and I have always been able to do whatever I desired on my system. Now I can't install programs at all. Every one I try, I get an "access is denied" message. For example, when I try to (re)install winmail-reader-setup.exe, I get "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied"

What in the world have I done?! I have checked my account, folder privileges, etc, and nothing looks amiss except that I have two "unknown" user accounts that I haven't seen before...not sure how those got there. But I'm running with my own account, with full privileges, administrator access.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much!

A:Error 5: Access is denied when try to install programs

I would try setting up another admin accout first, and seeing if you can install then. This will troubleshoot it to a computer issue, account issue, etc.

So I've been recently having issues with permissions or something related to it. I first noticed it when I would always get this security prompt when attempting to open a shortcut to Teamspeak 3. Now I'm just trying to install a program and it's saying that I don't have rights to the /Local/Temp/ folder!

Obviously the first thing I checked what whether or not my account was still an administrator:

Check!

Then I made sure UAC was turned off:

Check!

Then I went ahead and attempted to give myself Full Access permissions to the entire C:\ drive:

Then I get these Access Denied errors using this process and I have no idea why!

Which also says the same thing about Program Files.

(It did allow me to take ownership of the drive(s) though).

Of course I attempted to Google the issue and tried many methods including several from these forums:
Error applying security!!!!!!!!
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...rmissions.html

I don't know what else to try thus why I'm here!
Thanks

A:Error 5: Access Denied while using Admin account

I was able to resolve the File Security prompt for opening shortcuts (i.e. Teamspeak 3) by enabling 'Launching applications and unsafe files' in Internet Options. BUT I'm still getting the permissions error and cannot give myself full access!

I've also noticed that there are about three updates that I cannot install. I'm sure this has to do with my permissions issue as well. If any of you are wondering my OS is installed on my primary SSD (C:\) which is one of the drives I'm trying to alter. The other drives seemed to work fairly OK with a few minor issues.

Hi all, and thanks for reading this thread - I have searched high and low for a solution but to no avail so would really appreciate any help you may be able to give.

Basically I have bought a printer (Canon p2720) and can't for the life of me install the driver. I have installed them fine on my wife's laptop but for some reason it just won't do it on the desktop. Here's what happens:

1. I normally just plug it in and Windows searches for the driver automatically - it finds, downloads and tries to install the driver but then states that an error occurred.
2. I also tried installing the driver from the software included in the CD (an option I hate because of the unnecessary software they also include) but again I get an error saying access is denied.

So I have tried the following to fix:
1. Gone to Computer Management into the device manager, found the printer (listed under 'Other Devices') and tried installing drivers this way via both the net and also the CD - both don't work claiming access is denied.
2. From searching the net it sounded like some sort of permissions issue (even though the account is an admin account) so I have tried to change the permissions of windows - system32 - spool. Currently they look like they're read only (when I right-click and go to properties the read only box is filled in). When I try to uncheck this box and click on apply it goes through a lot of them and then gets to the odd file and says "An error occurred applying the a... Read more

I am trying to block IE 8 updates as I unistalled it and it keeps showing up as an inportant update in ky automated updates icon in the system tray.

This is a home computer with no logons. I gave myself admin priviledges and downloaded the above program to my user area.

I am pretty sure the system is not allowing the program to update the reg files. I am just using the cmd "ie80blocker.cmd /B" cmd line.

Does anyone know how to resolve this.

Thank you in advance.

A:Solved: Ie80blocker.cmd access denied error

Are you getting an error when you execute the script?
Make sure you are running it in a Command Prompt Window, not from the Run box. It most likely needs to be run from an Elevated Command Prompt - Click Start, type cmd, when it appears in the list, right click and click Run as adminstrator.

You can always just right click the IE8 update in the list and click Hide Update and it won't be offered anymore.

Hi,

I think I have been affected either by a virus or a strange MS update

I lost my restore points and cannot delete any file nor install anything without a "Continue" button with a shield on it.

I've had no problems before and only noticed this when my AVG anti virus kept prompting me a week ago that I had
"insufficient administrator privileges"

I went to User Accounts ( I am the only user)

it had my name , my domain and "Debugger Users"

I am quite sure it had administrator rights previously.

Looking through the various topics on the net, I've tried the following

net user administrator
and got the error 5 message

i tried logging in as administrator and found it had been disabled, pls contact your system administrator

i guess i have to save my data somewhere else and do a factory reset as a last resort.. however will I lose MS office?

Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so please excuse if this post is in the wrong section... Ok so i am he one and only admin on my system i have windows 7 64 bit and when i try to install anything i get access is denied I've tried changing permission's on the file's and that didn't work, Also tried running as administrator still didn't work I've been struggling with this for the last few days and i have updates piling up. and this is also effecting my final year in college by needing to download some programs for it... any help is appreciated and i hope we can solve this problem,

thank you

A:Access is denied error as administrator(cant install anything)

The "real" Administrator account in Win7 is hidden from view. You have to "unhide" it in order to login as the real Administrator.

When you go to install anything, you should right-click on the setup file and choose "Run as Administrator". That will temporarily give you elevated rights to install stuff.

If that does not work, there are other problems.

Hi,

I have a fairly new (4 months) Win7 installation FULLY virus checked & protected, and I have just noticed that I can't uninstall any programs. When I try, a window pops up almost immediately saying "Unable to create a temporary file. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied.

I have tried running the add/remove applet as Administrator but I get the same result.
The Microsoft 'Fix It' tool finds no problems or errors.

One thing that would be really handy to know is where the Windows Installer is trying to create the file. One thread that I've found says it creates it on 'the volume with the most free space', but as I only have one partition, that doesn't help much.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Many thanks,
Paul.
