Infection or Hardware Issue? Windows 7 Not Genuine message Build 7601, new today

Q: Infection or Hardware Issue? Windows 7 Not Genuine message Build 7601, new today

Starting today, seemingly out of nowhere, my custom Windows 7 desktop PC started giving me a message along the lines of "you may be a victim of software counterfeiting," asking me to validate windows, then asking me to reinstall windows. I got this PC less than 1 year ago with a brand new Windows 7 key. Up until this time, I haven't had many major issues crop up, but some minor things have had me suspicious, and even more so now.

I ran Microsoft Security Essentials (detected/removed nothing) and Malwarebytes (removed/detected some PUPs but no frank malware). I attempted to backup my computer today using Windows backup, but it was unable to complete fully due to some corruption (I believe is what it said) in the C drive.

Since this PC is less than one year old, I am hoping it's not hardware failure. If there's anything that could be done before I have to throw in the towel and get a new hard drive, then I need some help!

Whatever logs and specs you need, please guide me and I'll be happy to provide.
Thanks.

Rerun MBAM after allowing it to update. Post the results of the scan using the instructions below.
Once adware and malware are eliminated as the cause of the problem then instructions will be given for trouble shooting and repairing
the files and /or hardware.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
When MBAM is finished scanning it will display a screen that displays any malware that it has detected.
Click the Remove Selected button.
MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so.
While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log, and in the window that opens click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to your Desktop.
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can also be viewed by clicking the History tab and then selecting Application Logs.
POST THE LOG FOR  REVIEW.

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Scan button.
When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

We're a small charitable organisation with three identical Dell PCs running Windows 7 Professional. A few months ago one machine started having a black desktop and showing the not genuine message. Unfortunately, no one has bothered about it until now.

I've run CHKDSK and SFC /SCANNOW showing no problems. Running SLUI give an error message and won't let me validate. I've removed Norton 360 and cleaned up with their utility. On-line validation just hangs.

Any help/advice welcome. Here is the MGAD report.

The error is an 'Access denied' one - and often associated with disk problems.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

A:just received Windows 7 Build 7601 not genuine message

Your installation is counterfeit.
Your machine was manufactured a year before Windows 7 was launched, and consequently cannot support a, OEM_SLP installation of Windows 7, which requires specific data in the BIOS.
The machine almost certainly shipped with Vista installed - check the COA sticker on the case - and unless a legal upgrade has been applied, cannot run Windows 7.

The disk used for this install may have been from Dell, but it's from a leter model than this machine, and so not valid for it.

I am using window 7. 2 weeks ago, I was using my computer, it locked up, I did control/alt/del and a windows update started. I waited 30 minutes or more and it didn't install. I gave up, went to bed and when I got up the next morning, the computer was off. I turned it back on, it started what I thought was running some sort of test, but it deleted files and when it finally did start up, it has a message in the bottom right corner that says my version of windows 7 is not genuine. My printer won't work at all, and other programs will not open. I have tried to do a back up, and it will not complete. I do NOT have a disc to reinstall windows 7, it was preloaded on my computer. When I go to Microsoft to try to validate my COA, it says it is NOT valid. I am at wits end, as I do not know much about fixing computers!

Hey, as many others here, my build of Windows isn't genuine. And also like many others here, I purchased my laptop legitimately - in my case, through BJ's Wholesale Club. Unfortunately, I can't make heads or tails of this issue, as I have no idea how computers work. Here's the MGADIAG for my computer:

Hello denanator, and welcome to Seven Forums.

From your report, you are using the SLP volume license key number instead of the product key number on the COA sticker. See OPTION ONE in the tutorial below, enter that key number instead, and try activating again.

Hope this helps,

We bought a new HP laptop with Win 7 Pro (64 bit) preinstalled in July 2013 from a reputable (I think) online dealer. I installed the free version of Avast and initially all was well, and bootup time was very quick. After about a month or 2, I was prompted to update Avast, which I did. Immediately 2 problems cropped up. First, bootup time became very painfully slow (sometimes up to 5 minutes or more before the computer is fully operational). Once it was booted up, it did not seem particularly slow anymore. Second, we began to get the message in the lower right that "copy of Windows is not genuine (build 7601)". This message shows up only occasionally (most of the time it does NOT appear), and it does not seem to have any noticeable effect (unless it is related to the slow bootup time). The screen shows our normal wallpaper. Reading somewhere that Avast may have caused the slow bootup time, I uninstalled Avast and instead installed the free version of AVG, which I still use. But both problems persist (slow bootup and occasional "windows not genuine" message). I believe my copy of Windows is genuine, but interestingly, the computer does not have a COA sticker, at least no that I can find. We also do not have Win 7 disk from MS (only from HP). I strongly suspect that Avast caused the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Below is the MGADiag report.

Thanks!

A:Copy of Windows is not genuine (build 7601) message after avast update

Your symptoms are typical of a race condition - most likely caused by a conflict between your AV and other software.
I would suggest uninstalling Avast completely, and running their cleanup tool.
What other AV's have been installed (even if not activated?) - most will come with a 'free' trial install of either Norton or McAfee, so it's worth running the removal tools for both.
Please do things in this order....

Download the McAfee removal tool from:

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save, and save the file to a folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where you saved the file.
right-click on MCPR.exe and select 'Run as Administrator' to run the removal tool.

when complete, reboot.
Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine whether it asks for it or not.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

Now uninstall Avast - using the normal Control Panel uninstaller.

Then
Download the Avast removal utility from here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Follow the instructions for running it, and when complete, reboot the machine.

Allow it to settle down for 1... Read more

I recently installed avast internet security 2015 on my computer. Yesterday I used the bootup scan option. I normally use bootup scan without and problems but that was with Avast antivirus Free version.

After the scan finished I logged onto my usual profile only to be greeted with this message:

As I know that my windows is genuine and I never encountered this program before I automatically assumed it was a virus. I clicked cancel and ended up in a temporary profile unable to access any of my data.

I booted up my computer in safe mode and ran both Avast and Malwarebytes again. They found nothing new. I then rebooted the computer normally and the error message had gone and I was able to log in as myself again. However I am now too scared to ever turn off my computer in case this problem comes back to haunt me.

A:Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine message after Avast bootup scan

There are no problems showing in the report.
It's likely that the problem arose because of a race condition - where the Software Protection service was fighting with the Avast boot-time scanning, and couldn't access the necessary files before timing out. The system interprets this as an attack, and flags it as non-genuine.

Running MGADiag forces a re-evaluation of the license, and this may have corrected the situation.
You should no longer be seeing the non-genuine notification?

Sorry about posting my request elsewhere.

Here's my dilemma: I had a desktop system where I virtually replaced all components except my Intel SSD (I only have Win 7 & "programs" installed on this drive). My old OS was Win 7, 32 bit. Since I got a nice 64 bit motherboard/CPU, I purchased Win 7, 64 bit. When I got my new system started, I had all kinds of problems (so many, I can't remember all the details). When I finally got the 64 bit version of Windows 7 to install, it never did ask me to enter the Product Key!?!? It registered/kept the product key from the 32 bit version! After several weeks of trouble-free operation, I now have the "black desktop" with "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine." Every-time I restart windows, it want me to enter a new product key and "I know" that I'm entering the correct characters.

The following quoted info seemed like a good place to start so I followed this information:

A:Issue: Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not Genuine

You say that you purchased Windows 7 - where from?
The installed License Type is COA_SLP, which is not available to the general public, and can only be sold pre-installed by a major manufacturer. If you did indeed purchase this retail, then it's a counterfeit.

Does the Product Key in the report agree with the one from your purchase?
If not, use the option to change the product Key to the proper one.

Hello Folks!

I thought I would try my hand here to fix an issue that I'm seeing (from a glance in the forum here) is rather common.

I purchased my desktop, which happened to be refurbished and sold "open box", through Newegg back at the end of August. It of course, came with Windows 7 Home Premium already installed and I had no issues until I started getting the messages that Windows was not genuine and refused to activate, either on the key that was already listed, or on the key found on the COA sticker.

So hopefully, this will help:

A:Help with "Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine" message

Hello and welcome elbygump might a daft question but I know it is a new drive - is it the same motherboard cos your activation is tied to it not the drive.

I would be inclined to call Microsoft if it is the same mobo and run it by them.

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

Hi

Have this message on the desktop of the PCs in the house and it beginning to irritate me even though it doesn't seem to have an adverse effect (yet). Brief history - PC was purchased in Dec 2009 from a large UK company called Mesh Computers. I bought two others from them at the same time (Xmas presents for the children). Came preloaded with Windows 7 Premium 64bit(with registration key sticker stuck to the top) and has functioned without issue since.

Fitted a new hard drive 2 months ago (no other hardware changes since new), reloaded Windows 7 from supplied disk, of which I have 3. Have taken all the updates. Don't know when the message first appeared as I'm not the main user. When I look at the system settings under Windows Activation there is a link that read 'You must activate windows today. Activate Windows now'. However nothing happens when I click on it. A little lower on the screen by the side of Product Key the 'Change Product Key' link does nothing either.

Details from the MGADiag Tool:

A:windows 7 build 7601 may not be genuine .

You have an Acer Product Key for Windows 7 Ultimate - on a Fujitsu-Siemens machine built in 2003 with no SLIC table to support the OEM_SLP license.
The install is counterfeit.

Is ther a COA sticker on the case of the machine?
If so, for what version and edition of Windows is it valid? I would suspect Windows XP Home edition (if one is present at all!)

The activation code should be on a sticker underneath the laptop. Belarc Advisor is a free utility you can download that will find your installation key for Windows.

I've got the black screen with message in lower right corner. The laptop is a HP Elitebook 8730w. The sticker on the bottom indicates it was originally loaded with windows vista, but it currently has windows 7 ultimate. My ex-wife got this computer from her work, and I believe she put a different hard drive in it, and I am unaware of where the windows 7 ultimate came from. It was working normally for nearly a year before this message started appearing. Does the diagnostics provided give any insight as to what the issue might be? Do I need to buy new genuine software, or is their some other issue? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:build 7601, windows not genuine

The installed Key has been blocked - presumably because of abuse.
The Key type is one which should only be in use on a machine which shipped with Windows 7 Ultimate pre-installed.

It looks like someone 'stole' the key from another machine.

Two choices...
1) see if you can purchase a FULL license for Windows 7 Ultimate - avoid places like eBay and Caigslist, as they are mostly counterfeits. Swap the Key in to the existing install.
2) revert back to Vista, using the manufacturer's Recovery media, or a Retail ISO/disk with the COA sticker Key - this will wipe the drive, so back up all data to external media.

If you pick option 2, you can then try and get hold of an Upgrade license for whichever version of Windows you fancy - you almost certainly don't need Ultimate!

Use this tutorial to change to the product key that is shown on the COA sticker attached beneath your laptop, as long as that COA is also for Windows 7 Ultimate:

The usual suspect here would be the SPPSVC - but that would normally produce a different error message.

I suspect that this is caused by the WMI service (WinMgmt)
we'll check both...

Please open an Elevated Command prompt, and run the following commands..

SC QC WINMGMT
SC QC SPPSVC
SC QUERYEX WINMGMT
SC QUERYEX SPPSVC
NET START WINMGMT

post the results...

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

So after 4 years of owning my PC, Windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine appears for the 3rd time. I've had it with this bull crap error. I have used the 'quick patches' people have designed, but I have the damn CN key, and the Dell P/N. Someone who understands
what the heck is going on and can tell me how to reverify this, please tell me. and if you even want to try and convince me to 'upgrade' to windows 10, go kill yourself.

Edit:
Its now happened to both my Windows 7 computers the same day, the other of which we just purchased less than a month ago. BRAVO MICROSOFT. BRAVO.

I recently had to purchase a new SSD to run Windows from as the other was getting quite full. My previous Windows 7 licence was an upgrade one, so rather than go through the process of installing XP and then upgrading, I purchased a full Windows 7 licence. All seemed fine and my PC has been up and running for a couple of weeks until the above message arrived. I don't know if it was after some Windows updates or that was just a coincidence.

Any assistance gratefully received!

Hi,

There is something wrong with my laptop. I bought this laptop Dell Inspiron 1 year back.
It was working all fine until few days back and then all of a sudden, 2 days back, when I switched it on, it kept processing something and it took ~1.5 hours before I could do anything on it.
Then I noticed message at right bottom
Windows 7
Build 7601
This window is not Genuine

When I did some search on this, it seems like it's issue with some registry and I suspect that could be the reason my laptop is so slow. I saw people recommend to run MGADIAG diagnostics. Here is the snapshot of MGADiag

There is nothing in your report to indicate that you should be getting a non-genuine notification.
Do you see it all the time - or does it come and go?
If the latter, tehn you porbably have a 'race condition' caused by (usually) your anti-virus - which is it?

I have been running win 7 on this laptop for years but yesterday the not genuine message appeared along with the black desktop. I think win 7 is genuine. What can I do? I have tried sfc scannow and chkdsk
and both came back clear.

There are no problems showing in the report -

What AV are you using?
Try this...

Please disable real-time scanning/protection and reboot

If the notification has disappeared, re-enable real-time scanning and reboot again

If the notification is still present, first check whether the real-time scanning is still switched off.

If so, then re-enable it and post the result.

If it's turned itself back on then tell me or try again using a different disable option.

Post back with the results

My mother received this computer from her government job, and they allowed her to keep it if she fixed it up. She did so and then gave it to me. I've had it a little over a year and now all of a sudden I can't update anything, I can't activate it, everything I do tells me that Windows is not genuine and needs to be activated... saddest part is I'm not sure if she used a "genuine" copy when she restored it. How can I tell? Thanks

ran a diagnostic on it... heres what I got:

A:Build 7601 Windows not Genuine

The reason you are getting the 'not genuine' message, based on the diagnostic report you submitted, it looks like the system was part of a key management system (KMS). KMS is what is used to activate systems on a local network which eliminates the need for individual/manual activation. The KMS activation is only valid for 180 days. This means that in order for the system to stay activated in must contact the KMS system within 180 days to stay activated. Usually when a company lets their employees keep an asset such as a laptop, most of the time it is the hardware and not software. Basically they gave your mom the hardware and not the OS key. You will need to purchases a valid copy/key.

Hello guys,

I got a problem since yesterday I get this message from Windows not being genuine. My computer is like 1 1/2 years old and I never had problems since now. I know that my copy of Windows Ultimate is genuine since I activated it by myself well but I sadly don't have the product key anymore since I can't find my installation box. Well I hope that the problem can be fixed without needing a product key. So it would be nice if you could help me.

Greetings Larry!

I bought a toshiba satellite pro on ebay, so it's second hand. I occasionally get a message saying "Windows 7, build 7601, this version of windows is not genuine". I know that it is genuine and have the serial number to prove it. This wouldn't really bother me too much but it makes my computer inexplicably slow, and as it has a 500GB hard drive and 4GB ram it really shouldn't.

Here is the diagnostic report:

A:Windows build 7601 not genuine?

Answer Match 97.02%

Hi all

I'm a newbie to this forum and do not speak computer tech language - please be gentle and advise in simple terms. I hope I'm in the right place.

I have a problem with my daughters laptop - "This copy of Windows is not genuine Build 7601" appeared in the bottom right corner - since then the laptop has slowly deteriorated in performance and has become incredibly slow, almost dead. Nothing seems to run on it properly - no programs, no internet or very very slow to load- Nothing appears to respond well. Its hit and miss as to whether it starts up properly.

The laptop is 2-3 years old and came with pre installed software - it is a Dell and was bought direct from Dell.

Prior to this the laptop worked fine. I'm using a separate PC to post this thread. Also I do not know how to run the various diagnostic reports mentioned in threads so will need simple instructions

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Trevor

A:Windows Not Genuine Build 7601

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

You can copy the download from your current machine on a USB stick, run it from there, and save the report in Notepad for copying back to the working machine.

Hello

After reinstalling windows 7 via the partition in my notebook a few months back, this problem has occurred. "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows is not genuine". This has actually happened twice now, the first time I was able to fix it by updating the clock as it was out by about a year. But now it's returned about a month later and I can't seem to find a fix. I'll be surprised if windows is not genuine as it's OEM with the Microsoft sticker on the bottom of the case and bought from a big store.

Just wondering, if I reinstall windows again. Will this fix the problem? or will I then have a clean non genuine install.

If I've left out any information just let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I got a new computer about 4 weeks ago, and have had no problems up until last night. I left my computer on to go to a concert and everything was fine, and I come home to find that my desktop turned black, and said "This copy of Windows 7 is not Genuine.", and "You may have a counterfeited version of Windows.". Since then, I tried a System Restore, which did not work, and attempted to change it via the control panel (I have a product key on the side of my computer on a sticker) which gave me an error. I've been reading on this issue, and seems that I may have to call Microsoft Support to resolve this.

EDIT: I searched the error code, and found a fix for the error code that was preventing me from fixing it in the control panel. I then tried to change it and it worked.

Let's try an easy fix first - it sometimes works.....

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

A:windows 7 build 7601 is not genuine

For which version and edition of Windows is the laptop licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?? (or possibly inside the battery compartment)

If it's for Windows 7 Ultimate, then you need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

I just got the "Windows 7 Build 7601" message. Like others, my screen is black with the exception of the shortcut icons. But, I can still access programs, not sure for how long, though. The PC was purchased within last 12 months from Best Buy. The motherboard recently went out and they repaired it but I had to reinstall all the software, other than the OS.

As recommended I ran the diagnostic and these are the results:

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine?

As I suspected would be the case, the problem is with the SLIC table in the BIOS - it looks as if the flash they attempted failed, with the result that the SLIC Table is corrupted.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on your COA sticker (on the machine's case, or inside the battery compartment), and activate that.
Use the Change Product Key link to be found at the bottom of the System properties page, and follow the instructions.

Hi there!

I'm having issues with activating my Windows 7 product key.

My desktop background has gone black with a small note at the right bottom corner with the message:
Windows 7
build 7601
this copy of Windows is not genuine.

I own a 3 year old Toshiba laptop (running Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit), the OEM product key sticker on my laptop has worn out, I used a key finder to find my product key. While trying to activate, I keep getting Error 0X8007232B DNS name does not exist. I did try going through the resolution steps here "Stop error code 0x8007232b" or "Stop error code 0x8007007B" when you try to activate Windows without any avail.

Please help !!!

The Key in use here is a KMS Volume License Key - which requires activation against the issuing company's own server.
The installed edition is Windows 7 Enterprise - which is a Volume license only edition.
You will have to contact your System Administrator for assistance, or revert back to teh the original OS with which the machine shipped, using the Recvoery media from the manufacturer.

Not a lot wrong there, apart from a failed validation attempt.
Please attempt validation using Internet Explorer at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate - what happens?

If it fails again, post a new MGADiag report (before rebooting, please)
If it passes, reboot and post a new MGADiag report.

I run Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 1500, which I've had for over two years now. I've only used the preinstalled Windows, so I know that it is genuine. Yesterday, my computer kept glitching and freezing. Once I got that to stop, MalwareBytes alerted me that it was blocking Trojan attacks using a certain file in Program Files (x86). Once I deleted the file and restarted my computer, I got the message that my copy of Windows might be counterfit. My background is replaced with a black screen, and explorer.exe takes almost 5 minute to load after I boot up my computer.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 is Not Genuine

As for the slowness, try to do a System Restore to a time that precedes the problem.
I'll post a link in a minute about the "not genuine" issue.

Check this thread out, that talks about the same issue.

Hi, I'm desperate here. i've tried everything removing certain KB's using slmgr -rearm, removing anti-viruses, system restores (which works for about 5 minutes then goes not genuine again) and I'm at my wits end here! I have had this PC for a year now and built it myself. I activated it and no issue, a month later it comes up with not genuine so I did the slmgr -rearm and it was all good. Yesterday I installed some updates and this problem happened again. Seems like thats the issue - uninstall them and still broken.

I'm so lost please help me!

A:Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine - help!

Windows has discovered an Activation Exploit is being used in an attempt to circumvent Activation and Validation requirements.
You have an OEM_SLP Key installed on a retail motherboard - which breaks the licensing rules, and cannot work without such an exploit.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

A:Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine

You appear to have a Retail motherboard - but the Key you are using is one a major manufacturer's machine.
The problem has occured becaused you (or at least someone) has used a hack to isntall and 'activate'the Key.

You cannot safely make this current installation genuine.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

The problem is that your system is unable to properly read the BIOS SLIC table that should be present in the system to be able to self-activate the OS.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

A:Windows is not genuine - Build 7601

Your installation is counterfeit.
Your machine was built in 2008 - well before Windows 7 was launched - and cannot possibly support a OEM_SLP License for Windows 7
You need to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and Key.

Have you sent the machine in for repair? - who to?
was this a new machine when you purchased it?

For which version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case??

Been seeing a lot of posts around like this so I guess I'm not alone, which is somewhat reassuring. I first began getting the Windows Activation Technologies popup a couple days ago, and I thought it'd resolve itself by now. I'm pretty sure my product key for Windows 7 professional x64 is genuine? but to that, I got it from my college so I suppose its possible that it could be a messed up key. If thats the case, I dunno why it started giving me problems now all of a sudden instead of a few years back when I recieved it.

A:Windows Build 7601 no longer genuine?

I know the forum rules says no bumping but, some help would be appreciated

I was hoping that by posting this diagnostics report, I may get some help with my Windows 7 Build 7601 This version is not genuine error:

I have a recycled Dell laptop (I bought from a medical company that was updating their hardware) and according to the seller, the version of Windows that was installed is authentic. This laptop used to have Vista installed on it. He upgraded it to Windows 7 before selling it to me. I do not have a copy of Windows 7 to attempt a reinstall of the OS.

I tried reactivating Windows but it doesn't like the product key I have on this laptop either.

Thanks for any help you can offer! I'm not very technical and at a loss!

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This is not a genuine version

I am by no means a licensing expert, but from what I gather, this:

Quote:
Windows License Type: OEM SLP

means that Windows should have been pre-installed on said laptop by the OEM (Dell), which is not the case as you've pointed out. Purchase a copy of Windows 7 and perform a clean installation.

Error started popping up on my fiance's laptop the past couple of days. We had bought this laptop... 3? 4? years ago from a local Fry's. I replaced the HD with a SSD and did a clean install with a windows ISO off Digital River website using the product key on the sticker on bottom of laptop. This was about a month ago, then all of a sudden, product key error.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

A:This copy of Windows is not genuine Build 7601

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

I bought a newly built desktop PC from a private seller on eBay about three months ago and everything has been running fine but today I got a full screen message, before the desktop appeared, saying Windows 7 is not genuine. The error code at the bottom-left of this is 0xC004F032.

When I go past that I get a popup from MSE saying Windows 7 is not genuine, and the desktop has a message at the bottom-right saying "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows in not genuine".

Now I realise, since this was from a private seller, it could well be this message is correct. Maybe my own fault for buying a PC with software from eBay! But I want to be sure of things before I go ahead and buy a new copy of Windows 7.

I've tried activating online, but am again told it's not a genuine copy. Is there any way you guys can tell if this is right or not from the attached diagnostic report?

Also, why would I only get this message now, after three months? Nothing has changed with the PC - no new motherboard or new anything as far as hardware since purchase.

Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

You have an Acer OEM_SLP Product Key installed on a Retail motherboard manufacturered 6 months before Windows 7 was released, with an apparent SLIC rable from Gigabyte.

Your installation is counterfeit.

You will need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

Hi,

I would suggest you to try and use the CD Key you might have received with the system and see if it works. If that fails though, you could try calling your system?s manufacturer and check if they could provide you a set of recovery discs.

Hey guys,
My computer was store bought with a pre-installed windows 7, after a malfunction with a system restore i had to use a windows 7 proffessional edition to get the computer back online, however... As i only used the disk to repair previous files, it told me i need an activation key.

I didnt use the activation key off the disk as it was a friends and only used it to repair the files, i still havea folder on the computer called "Windows.old" is there someway i can take that windows back onto the computer or use the preinstalled and activated windows key from the home version that it came with?

A:Windows is not a genuine copy (Build 7601)

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

I have a Dell Latitude E5500 running Windows 7 Ultimate that warns it is not genuine.

I am the new IT person at my company. This laptop was issued to a salesperson before I came here. The salesperson is no longer with us and returned the laptop. Laptop was not on the domain and I did not know the user's password so I used a Password Reset utility (I have sucessfully used several times with Win XP.) To activate and reset the Administrator password. (This modifies registry entries)

Upon logging in I see the laptop is reporting as software not genuine. Oddly
enough I was able to install SP1.

I went through the recreating Licensing Store with no change. The COA sticker is not on the laptop but I ran Magic JellyBean keyfinder and reentered the key with equally dissappointing results.

My boss thinks this laptop was "rebuilt" by a company they have used in the past for support. This company is very reputable and I find it unlikely they would use counterfeit software.

I have read several threads but I did not see anything that matches mine. I apologize in advance if the answer was under my nose and I did not see it.

A:Windows not genuine - 7 Ultimate - Build 7601

WAT has discovered a hacker's Activation Exploit, attempting to spoof Windows Activation and validation.
The machine was built a year before Windows 7 was launched - but the Exploit is attempting to simulate a valid Win7 SLIC table in the BIOS.

For what version and edition of Windows is the computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case??
It's almost certainly Vista of some kind - and unless you have a valid Upgrade license for this machine, then that's the only OS that should be installed here.

Hi All,

I was hoping someone could give me a hand on a recent issue with my Dell Studio XPS 1645 (laptop).

To give you some background, I purchased this machine from Dell a little over a year ago – it came pre-installed with Windows 7 Premium Home Edition. Since that time the computer has been terrific (aside from running a bit too hot for my liking), and I really have experienced no performance issues.

A week ago Sunday (7/31) I was poking around my taskbar and noticed that I had some updates to install from Microsoft – I always thought these were automated but apparently the service pack isn’t – I have no clue how long that potential update was sitting there, could have been a while. Regardless, I decided to upgrade to “service pack 1” and for about a week nothing dramatic happened.

However, beginning yesterday my computer started to behave a bit odd, almost as if I had a virus. My Internet stopped working, I was getting random errors when attempting to open files. I was getting absolutely pummeled with windows errors (i.e not genuine, windows has stopped working etc. etc.). I was ultimately met with a flashing white screen and computer crash. I attempted a re-start and was met with a blue screen, safe mode wouldn’t work, and ultimately after a couple tries it just seemed to randomly start. On that re-start though, I was met with text at the bottom right hand of my screen that said Windows 7 Build 7601 not genuine.

A:Windows Build 7601 Not Genuine after SP 1 install

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

For a start, I'd try uninstalling SP1 first to see if that cures the problem.

In any case, I think you'll need to contact Dell as Microsoft won't offer support for an OEM version of Windows.

2 years or more after owning my XPS L502X I received an error saying that I needed to activate my version of windows. Windows 7 Home Premium came installed on my computer and I haven't had any activation issues with it until now. I had done a system restore yesterday to late December 2013 since about half of the websites I frequent wouldn't load. I had tried restarting my router/modem and messing with connections to no avail. It fixed my web issues and I have used the computer almost constantly in the day since without a problem. The error occurred without a restart or anything(though I do get a windows error on restart now). I was mid-episode of a show that I had previously watched using the same software I had previously used(VLC) to watch it. The only changes I have done since the restore were to add torrentprivacy.com's bit torrent anonymizer and download a few torrents. The torrents were positively commented and passed avast virus scan.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Is Not Genuine Error

The installation is counterfeit - you have a machine built before the release of even Vista, let alone Windows 7, which claims to have had Win7 installed at the factory.
It's likely that an update removed the hack which was holding the install together and circumventing the Activation requirements.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

From what you say, it seems that you bought this machine 2nd-hand? after a year, it's almost certainly too late to claim a refund from the vendor - you may well have to either use the manufacturer's Recovery media to revert back to the original OS, or purchase a new license for Windows.

Here is another unit - near two years old - I activated it back then - that joins the non-genuine list.

Hoping someone here can assist.

NB: I have run CHKDSK /R and SFC /SCANNOW with nothing showing up that this old coot can see.

NBB: This is a dual boot system (Win8.1-all brought and paid for. Win7 -original from shop installed OS - activated as soon as I booted up at home for the first time nearly two years ago. And PCLos - not functional at present.) Windows8.1 is giving this system hell right now and until a couple of days ago I had been doing my production work with Win7. [Samsung DP700A3B-Touch Screen] I thought Win8.1 had sorted when Samsung produced drivers for Windows8 - ran fine for a couple of weeks - but at present playing up again. I only mention this in case this relates to my Windows7 problem.

So - what now? I do believe I updated Windows7 to a Pro & Media Pro Version because this is where Windows8 got to when I opted for the clean install update at the time. Hence dual boot using the Windows8 boot loader.

I'm within Windows7 now with it showing the non-genuine message - so I must be running out of time???

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine Error

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

This appears to have happened after a power overload tripped the breaker on my power strip.

I found the download here for the Microsoft Advantage Diagnostic Tool, and ran the scan. I'm adding it below. Any help would be much appreciated.

First of all please note a couple of things, I'm at work currently so I can't get specifics. Also, I've been trying to troubleshoot it over the phone, I've been at work a lot and I've only had ten minutes to mess with it. Lastly, I'm not bad with computers but I rarely have to troubleshoot issues so you may need to be detailed about how or what you're trying to tell me what to do.

With that said here's what I know:
I turned the computer off to go on vacation, come back and immediately went to work and my Fiancee got on but it was having all sorts of problems. I don't believe she was able to turn on the computer to mess with it, so I doubt she did it that day and it was working perfectly before I left. I doubt anyone messed with my computer while gone though, so it may have been dormant until it was shut down and restarted.

The problems I know of consist of:
Windows Startup errors, and failure to repair the startup.
Checkdisk running and saying certain files were unreadable.
Getting to a black screen with the mouse and nothing more before erroring out and shutting down.

After troubleshooting over the phone we got to this stage:
Computer boots up normally, but extremely slow.
Black background with the watermark in the bottom right saying it's not genuine.
Again, extremely extremely slow.
Security Essentials won't run, errors out.
System Restore doesn't have any restore points (which it should) and errors out when going into the menu anyways.

A:Windows 7 Not Genuine - Build 7601 - Virus?

Try downloading Malwarebytes and running it.  Also try booting to Safe Mode and see if Security Essentials will run.  See how the performance is in Safe Mode.  You may need to go to the Startup tab of MSCONFIG and disable some of the tasks that're being started automatically when you boot up.  You can uncheck anything there except Security Essentials.  Note: Avoid the other tabs in MSCONFIG.
With the not genuine message, you may have to call Microsoft to resolve the problem.  Try activating again; if it fails, you should get a phone no. you can call.

Good luck.

I'm having a problem similar to many I have seen on these forums. Yesterday (2012.08.04) the little text message appeared in the bottom corner of the screen saying:Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine
Yesterday the desktop went black after a while and then periodically there came pop up dialogues both large and small telling me to go to the microsoft site to resolve the problem. At the site I was informed that my Windows was not genuine and that I could buy a new one for <I can't remember the price>.

When I go to the System page of the Control Panel, at the bottom of the window where you would expect to see the option to provide an alternative product key, it says:Status Not Available
Product ID: Not Available
The machine is an Acer Predator which I've owned for some eighteen months. It was purchased from a reputable source and I have no reason to suspect that the OS is anything other than genuine.

I've read some of the other similar threads and I've tried the following:
CHKDISK c: /r - no errors reported
sfc /scannow - no errors reported
recreating the license store as described here: Build 7601 Not Genuine, Looking for Help to get it fixed.
Which fails like this:
C:\Windows\system32>net start sppsvc
The Software Protection service is starting.
The Software Protection service could not be started.

A system error has occurred.

System error 2 has occurred.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 thinks it is not genuine.

Click on Start
in the Search box, type
SERVICES.MSC
and hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.
Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.
make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.
Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?
Post back with your results, and a new MGADiag report.
If it doesn't start, then please do the following...
Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....
net start sppsvc
sc qc sppsvc
sc queryex sppsvc
sc qprivs sppsvc
sc qsidtype sppsvc
sc sdshow sppsvc
Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Windows, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Dear Sir/Madame,
I have been reading through the posts and I believe some of the responses to this problem may be able to assist me with my issue. I was having blue screen problems (actually they are still happening) with my computer that I have owned for a couple 2-3 years now. I did not know what was causing this problem as it initially began very infrequently. The computer would flash a blue screen and then say it is dumping data, etc. -- eventually the computer would restart with no problem. I may have seen this 3- 4 times about a year ago but about 2 months ago it began happening all the time. So I decided to do a complete factory reset and that appeared to fix the problem or so I thought. Well the computer crashed again and then increased like before to where it happened every time a webpage hung up. I then contacted a company to service my computer online -- for now I will not mention the company but they use teamviewer to diagnose and repair computers. They worked on my computer for several hours and contacted me to tell me it was fixed -- that I had some corrupted drivers from a virus. They assured me it was fixed but within a couple of hours while I was running a Webroot scan the computer crashed and I could see the messages scrolling down the screen saying replacing security ID with a particular what I believed to be register address. It did this overnight as there was no response to ctrl alt del and when it stopped there was nothing -- I powered it off a... Read more

Hi,

My PC is almost 4 years old. It was bought from EBuyer in the UK and had Windows 7 preinstalled with the C OA sticker on the side of the PCU box. Yet for some reason it has now suddenly started to give me the above message in the bottom right corner of the desktop. As yet the screen has not gone black as seems to happen with some other instances of similar problems. However Windows Update is not working properly stating that Windows could not search for new updates and stating error code C0000022 had been found.

The MGADiag.exe report is as follows:

That is what it says in the lower-right corner of my desktop monitor screen. The PC is a couple years old. I don't think I have installed anything new lately besides Windows Updates and Flash Player updates. I tried uninstalling Avast and reinstalling after seeing that message. I'm not very knowledgeable about computers. I tried the online validation thing it gave me an option to try. It ran and then said it could not validate my copy of Windows.

Hi All,

I have been following directions in several threads here to fix the "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine" error. Background: This is a licensed copy of Windows on my 1.5 year old Asus EB1503. This just popped up within the last 2 days (noticed it today).

Problems: Normal login: Very slow, hard to type or bring up applications (services.msc, cmd.exe, etc). These can take upward of 5 min. Explorer takes a very long time to come up. Safe Mode: Everything is back to normal performance wise.

CHKDSK c:/ r - Reports disk has no issues. Comes back very fast after reboot.

SFC SCANNOW and SFC /scannow /offbootdir=e:\ /offwindir=e:\windows both fail. The former stops at 32% of verification and reports: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". The Windows Modules Installer is set to MANUAL.

Attached is my CBS.txt file. Attachment 339819

Is my disk hosed?

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine - SFC Error

I ran it again, this time starting the Windows Module Installer service as well. This time I get a different error:

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

I have a Dell D630 that originally had Windows XP Professional.
I bought it refurbished with Windows 7 64 bit and the seller swears it is genuine copy. I have been using the computer for 5 months and all of a sudden this message appears.
Any help is appreciated.

A:Build 7601 Copy of Windows Not Genuine

Hi -To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )Once saved, run the tool.Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report. To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response. Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker! See Below for examples -http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspxThank You -

I have read several threads on this topic and attempted to do many of the fixes recomended. I have been at this all day and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Earlier tonight I got the "FBI Money Pack Virus" on my laptop, I ran superantispyware, and malware bytes...removed all files they suggested. Rebooted to get back to work and got the Windows 7 not genuine warning at bottom right. Re entered my key, got told it was not valid, Tried to run MGA Diagnostics and when my report came up I intended to past and ask for help and instead I got an error window when I hit copy

Failed to create output files, hr=0x80070002. Please contact support

So I am stuck.

I am in the middle of a LARGE project and need answers if anyone has them.

TIA

Please restart the system for the changes to take effect" -> restarted my pc and i STILL have the "Windows is not genuine build 7601" error. and ive also already tried the regedit SkipReam "00000000 to 00000001" thing as well, still didn't work. can someone please tell me how to fix this. thanks

A:Windows is not genuine build 7601 fix problem

What anti virus software is on the machine? Have you downloaded any other anti virus programs? Doesn't mtter whether you have activated them or not. This problem can be caused by different A/V's clashing. Where did your copy of Windows 7 Home Premium come from?

I bought a new Gateway DX4840 from Fry's about 2 years ago with Windows 7 Home Premium. It has the genuine windows stickers on the side with the product keys. It has worked fine until about a month and a half ago when it suddenly said windows is not genuine. I called Microsoft and they walked me through several things and then finally said it was Gateway's fault and I had to contact them to fix it. When I tried to contact Gateway they said my warranty is expired so they will not even talk to me on the phone unless I pay to renew my warranty. So instead I tried to just re-format my computer and re-install from the recovery disk. This worked for awhile and I was able to re-active windows and it said it was genuine again (also did all the MS updates at that time), but then about a week later the error popped up again. So this time I did a full hard disk wipe (before I only reformatted the C drive and left the data partition intact). This time it has been good for a little over two weeks but today again it showed up as not genuine. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Feel like it might be time to move to Linux.

A:Not Genuine Windows Build 7601, after 2 years

Hello and welcome sudukai Hum pretty ordinary service from M$ and the dealer eh?

If you have the original activation code then you could try this USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

If all else fails then personally I would stick a SSD in buy an OEM and just install that but depends on th e budget of course and if the SSD is going to be big enough for what you want it for - but you can back up data to externals to free the SSD up a bit if it gets a bit full.

I booted up my computer, and saw in the bottom right hand corner of the screen it said Windows 7 not genuine error 7601. I was unable to open any applications except google chrome, and battle.net. it says i am not connected to any network and i am limited in my use of the internet. i can google questions, but i cannot play videos. when i click on an application, the process will show but the app wont run. i try to run it as administrator but that doesnt work either. i tried running my computer in safe mode with command prompt and from there i was able to run chkdsk /r which got rid of the not genuine build 7601 error but i still cant open any applications. i tried looking for the installed updates, but the updates wont show and are stuck loading. i tried restoring my system but there were no restore points. i tried using ms fix it but when i open the file it just loads and the windows installer pops up and says preparing to install and stay like that. i am unable to run command prompt as administrator or anything as administrator. i cannot create a shortcut to my desktop and elevate it to use as administrator either. nothing seems to be working

suggest you run an Eset online scan,

I've had this disk for probably 3 years or so - pretty sure it came with my custom built PC (from Silent PC). Its worked flawlessly. Now last night my Windows went through an automatic update (as they do) and suddenly I'm getting this 7601 Build Windows not Genuine.

I've got the disk and the code right here, but when I put the disk in it fails as it says the disk is older than the version currently on the computer.

I've got another windows 7 disk that I think came with a dell machine, but haven't tried to use that - I figure it will fail.

I've copied and pasted this MGADiag info below - any ideas? Or whats a good number to call MSoft to resolve?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

So I upgraded my asus p8z68-v lx bios recently to version 4003 and now my desktop is displaying the annoying messages. I also attached the other two HDDs to the SATA ports that were unplugged and might have moved some of the sata cables around in the process. I had this installed by a network admin and I'm pretty sure the windows 7 isn't a fake. It was all working fine until I decided to upgrade my bios and some drivers, then that showed up. Also I don't have a key for it. Any help on this is much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie so please be gentle!

I see there are a few posts of this ilk out there at the mo but each one seems to have its own, unique problem associated with it and find out what mine is where I need your help! Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

For a bit of background. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and have been, without issue, for the past year and a bit. On Tuesday morning (I left my computer on over night for virus check & backup) I had the infamous error we're all familiar with. I've virus checked again (AVG prof), anti spywared (Super Anti Spyware - paid) & used Malwarebytes. All fine. I bought my copy of Windows from #link removed# who were recommended to me as being 100% legit.

Please, you thoughts. THANK YOU!!

Hello!
I've been experiencing this problem (Build 7601, questa copia di windows non ? autentica - I'm italian) since Windows did some automatic updates. Then the system rebooted and performed a scandisk.
After that Windows started to say that I'm not using a genuine copy of the OS.
This is the original Windows (Windows 7 Home Premium) which came with the machine (an HP Pavilion DV6).
I really don't know what to do.

Hey all,

I am very new to this form so please bear with me. I just turned on my laptop the other day, and it was all black, with the WINDOWS 7 7601 build not genuine error in the right lower corner.

This has worked fine for 3 years with no trouble. It is a dell inspiron bought from BELL (Not DELL, BELL) here in Canada.

Any help is appreciated. I KNOW NOTHING about computers. I thought this might be a virus, but I am hearing this might be a legit issue. No of course, the WINDOWS product key on the bottom of the computer is all smudged. Will I need that?

Anyway, please take a look and offer up any ideas. THANKS

A:Error WINDOWS 7 7601 BUILD NOT GENUINE. No idea how to fix this.

I have been looking at some of the responses for this problem from other posters. There are alot of smart people here and I am hoping some will be willing to help us out. I don't want to follow advice on the other posts due to the advice probably specific to the diagnostic report.

I don't want to beg, but I am certainly not above it

Is there anything jumping out of you guys with my diagnostic report?
THanks in advance

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 Home Premium that warns it is not genuine. Basically problem started couple month ago. My PC started to crash nearly everyday. I checked for solutions on your forum and decided to re-install Windows7. But main problem (silly me)- I installed one of my family Windows ( we have 4 PC) . When I checked COA sticker and my diagnostic printout ,I find -that is not the same! I find my original Widows7 but I don't want ( if it's possible) re-install all ...again. What can I do now ? Thank you

Hi, recently my computer has been showing some interesting errors.

Firstly, my computer began signing into a temporary account profile when I tried to log into my main one. This only happened occasionally and with a few restarts I was able to get into my main account.

Then it began getting worse very quickly. I was not able to log into my account at all, it started to always log me into this "temporary profile" for whatever reason, I couldn't work out at all. Then after a few restarts to try to get it to work again, windows began to tell me after log on that my copy of windows isn't genuine! Which I am very very sure it is, as it's a store bought computer which came with windows 7 pre-installed and I have been using it for almost a year now.

So right now I am stuck on a temporary profile, which is saying my windows 7 copy isn't genuine.

I've saw a lot of people get this fixed on here so I thought I'd give it a shot to see if anyone could help me out with this.

Thanks in advance.

P.S I tried to run MGADiag and copy the results but got an error saying "Failed to create output files, hr = 0x80070002. Please contact support"

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine error code

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

**ignore** the erro message when clicking Copy - it will still paste fine.

I also get pop ups that say "you may be a victim of counterfit software" (oxc004f004).
a couple weeks ago I bought a windows 7 installation disk from amazon because i couldn't fix a BSOD and I used my windows license key to activate it, so how can it not be valid?

I still have the receipt from purchasing Win7 years ago, it is genuine.

This morning on boot I got a black background and the 'this copy of Windows 7 is not genuine' notice in the bottom right corner. I rebooted twice, same result. I found a thread and did this in an admin CMD window:

SLMGR /REARM

and rebooted, came back up with the genuine message flashing for a second then disappearing.

I went to see if Win7 was activated and it wasn't, gave me the 0x80070426 the service has not been started error when I tried to reactivate it.

Here is my MGADIAG:

A:copy of windows is not genuine build 7601 code 0xC004FE00

The installed Key is an OEM_SLP Key for WIndows 7 Ultimaite - ONLY valid on an ASUS computer. Your machine is a Toshiba built before the release of Windows 7, and so cannot support use of such a Windows Key at all - let alone one from the wrong manufacturer.
The fact that it shows an apparent SLIC table for WIndows 7 in the BIOS section probably means that there is a hacker's Activation Exploit installed.

For which version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the machine's case?

Hi,
I am new to the forum. At weekend when browsing the net as they say. I clicked on a site and my screen started to flicker then just for a moment Microsft security essentials screen popped up and vanished this happened several times with the screen flickering. Finally full screen MSSE said virous detected, severe, quarantined. No further action required.
When I went back to the desktop the screen had turned black and bottom right corner says window 7 build 7601. this copy of windows not valid. Coincidence!!!
Re inserted product key: failed Product not geniune or being used by someone else.
I installed a new hard drive in June 2012 along with a new copy of windows 7 plus office 2007 and all has worked well. All validated and set to automatic updates.

Rang Microsoft help desk and emailed security center.
I was unable to make out what the helpdesk were telling me and when I asked them to speak slowly and clearly they hung up.

I got this reply from the security centre. One thing to remember is I did not provide the product key.

I would like to inform you that the product key provided in your email is a MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) license for <product> which can be used only for Business purposes. The software with MSDN subscriptions should not be sold separately and we would have marked the product keys from such subscriptions as non-genuine once we were aware that they were being sold in this manner.
Also, if the software is a high-quality counterfeit, our... Read more
