I just unpacked my custom build and got it turned on.. went to try and get the internet working, and for the life of me.. i can't figure it out.
I don't even have a little wireless bar down in the right hand corner. when i try to connect to a network in network and sharing center, it wants me to plug in an ethernet cable. But i want wireless.. Also in the side panel of Network and sharing center, i don't even have the option for wireless.. i have Change adapter settings, and Change advanced sharing settings.

I try to set up a new connection or network and Connect to the internet, the only way it asks me to connect is by broadband(PPPoE). If i try set up a new network it asks me to choose the wireless router or access point i want to configure, might take up to 90 seconds for networks to appear.. but nothing pops up.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have been having some trouble with my brand new Dell XPS 13. When I close the lid and the computer goes to sleep, when I come back, it does not load properly. What I see is whether I want to boot up in safe mode or start windows normally. I have seen the BSOD 3 times now just doing normal internet browsing and while the computer was sitting idle.

Can anyone help!? Thanks in advance.

Hey all. I'm new to this forum. I believe I have read all the qualifying threads about minidump procedures.

The machine is a Dell 530s thin client, only 2 months old, tops. It has received BSOD since day one. I have done just about as much as I know to do, before calling Dell. This is my dad's machine and it has everything "Dell stocked", Windows Updates, and an HP AiO...

I can't post links yet so here is the written out link with zipped *.dmp files:

Anyway. Thanks a bunch! I hope someone can tell me the driver/hardware culprit.

I don't know Zenosincks. If this Dell is only 2 months old and this has been happening 'since day one' Dell should handle it since the machine will be under the warranty.

This one is pretty straight forward ... Memory Coruption ... to check your memory, download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 passes. If it reports any errors, you probably need to replace the modules...

My wife and I bought a new dell laptop about 4 months ago.  We have been having issues since almost day 1 that have not been resolved as of yet.  Thankfully (I think), we have an extended warranty and, to Dell's credit, they have been there for every phone call.  Our problem is that the same issue keeps coming up which tells me Dell could have serious technical support issues (some people may not be shocked at this).  My wife is in grad school and we just need the problem fixed.  The technical support people have logged on to our computer and have tried several times to fix the problem, but it keeps coming back.  My wife only isuse it for school and works off of a school website so there are no other issues from other sites that could cause problems.  They say they want us to biy an external hard drive, back everything up and let them do a factory reset.  My problem with that is I am not going to buy another product to help your product become functional.  This will be the last product even remotely associated with Dell I will purchase.

Hello
Please list Dell model and versions of windows. Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10.
Secondly, what issues you're having with the system ? Maybe we can help resolve the problems. Lastly, you should buy an external drive. Keep in mind, you can backup your photos, music, videos and other important stuff to a portable backup drive. You'll need it when the internal hard drive start to fail or the system fail itself. You can buy a external drive (recommend Seagate,1TB) at your local Walmart or go online for about $54.00. MSINFO32 reports that your Security Processor Loader isn't installed - this is a security device and I find it missing most often when there is a virus infection. MSINFO32 also reports that your HiDefinition Audio device is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why? If the system isn't infected, then I'd suggest trying a System Restore to a point several days ago. All of the memory dumps state that your registry is seriously corrupted - and System Restore should be able to take the system back to a time before the corruption occurred (as long as the system isn't infected). Have only had for 18 days and already problems. Latest is one USB port stopped working and per HP to have it work means sending back , getting a new motherboard, not having for 2 weeks and then having to set up again. The retailer has agreed to let me return it, but I need a computer. I still have my old Dell - should I get a new hard drive and have that installed? How do I know what to buy? And from where? Can i still get XP software somewhere? If I buy a new computer - what brand is reliable? Can I somehow install XP on a computer with W7? Also, how do I wipe the HP hard drive clean before I return it so none of my accounting info can be retrieved?
Thanks.

I just bought a brand-new Dell Inspiron 1545. I started the computer, finished the registration and connected to my home wireless networking system. The Dell has Vista OS pre-loaded on it and it showed full connectivity to my internet system. However, once I clicked on Internet Explorer, the page would not load and I could surf to other pages. Thinking it was an Internet Explorer issue, I tried Firefox. Firefox allowed me to go to Google, but nothing else. I spent about an hour on the phone with Dell, who informed me that there have been some configuration problems between Vista, McAfee and Internet Explorer, but they wanted to charge me $250 for a one year software warranty (apparently my warranty is only hardware). I uninstalled the free 30-day trial McAfee but could not still surf the web. I've tried ipconfig as well as other online hints but nothing's worked. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. I'm pretty close to just returning the Dell to the store and looking for another brand. Thanks in advance! A:Brand New Dell Inspiron 1545 Won't Connect to Internet Yes, I can connect using an Ethernet cord. The Comcast technical website (our home internet provider) shows that my computer is connected via Ethernet and wirelessly, but I still can only surf the web when I'm connected with an Ethernet cord. 5 more replies Answer Match 47.46% Hello folks I have a brand new Dell Vostro 400 with Vista but very annoyingly the mouse pointer accuracy is way off. For example in a word document or any typing when I move the cursor to insert a letter between words and click the mouse button where the cursor is, the actual point where the mouse clicks onto is about 4 letters off the space I want it to be. This applies to all processes, whether editing word documents or trying to select certain options in dialog boxes, adjust the spacing for columns in windows exploere, anything. Soo annoying. I have been into Hardware, Mouse and checked the improve accuracy box, but nothing has changed. Also, it seems to take forever for Vista to select and highlight an item, for example to highlight an item from a list, I have to wait for almost a second before it highlights and changes colour in order to progress. THis sounds very lame I know - to wait a whole mini second, but I'm used to my (older XP) machine highlighting and being able to select in an instant. Please help! 1techgirl A:Accuracy of mouse pointer diabolical on a brand new Dell machine Others have reported a similar issue with a Dell Vostro 400 and Vista. I'm running 2x NVidia 8600 GT's, both have 2 DVI inputs and 1 svideo, totalling 4 DVI and 2 SVideo inputs on my PC. I have a DVI, S-Video Cable and a VGA cable. Such as, dont get a sata drive if you dont have sata connectors. I'm pretty sure any IDE drive would work with a Dell. However Dells tend to be on the cheaper side and dont always have expansion bays for a second (or third) hard drive . Open your case or look at your manual to make sure you have room for expansion before buying one. If you don't, simply buy an external one that connects VIA usb. To put it simply, When 100% of the CPU and ~100% of the GPU are in use, after 15 mins, the system restarts. The laptop usually rebooted while playing Games or HD videos. So to simulate that I stress tested using Furmark and Prime in order to get to the root of the problem. When Furmark or Prime are run separately. There is absolutely no issues. However, run them together and it's a whole new story... I am 100 percent sure that this is a hardware issue as I have installed ati drivers countless times and reinstalled windows 7 at least thrice. (I have also tried turning off ATI powerplay, a known issue.) Dell came and replaced the GPU and the Motherboard, and to my surprise, still no cigar. I know there is an issue of a lack of voltage... I have a brand new Dell Inspiron that came with Windows 8.1 installed on a 1 TB hard drive. Any time I get a new computer, I always reformat and partition, which I did in this case. This was my first Windows 8/8.1 install, and everything went smoothly until, at some point, the computer would occasionally get locked up on the username screen for several minutes when booting. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling certain Dell utilities that I thought might be the problem, and even downgraded the BIOS after seeing that Dell had removed it from their website. I spent hours on the phone with Dell tech support. They weren't very knowledgeable, and seemed unable to troubleshoot what was going on by looking at the Event Viewer (a couple of times I let them take control of my computer, so they could see the errors). We ran hardware diagnostics and everything checked out. I even ran Memtest86+ and Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics on my own. Still nothing. Their solution was to restore Windows using the recovery partition that Dell installs, which can't be done, because I reformatted the hard drive. The computer was purchased through Microsoft and is no longer in stock, so it can only be returned and not exchanged. I have until the 27th to either figure this out or return it. "Randomly".... caught my attention.I am assuming you are connected by wireless. How do you have your network set up? Modem to router and connected to router wireless?Have you ever had any other computers set up via wireless before? If not, there is a strong possibility that your router is not secured and someone may be piggybacking on your connection which can, and will, slow your connection down drastically when someone "randomly" decides to take advantage of your unsecured connection. Now, after buying and installing a brand new harddrive, it reads it again, but only SOMETIMES! When it gives me options of rebooting or running a diagnostics test, if I switch some stuff around or restart it, or even just leave it alone for a little while, I can start it and it works fine. Except after a short while of using it, it will malfunction and go to "no bootable devices" page again. A:Dell Inspiron says "no bootable devices" with brand new hard drive Probably a silly question, but is anything on the hard drive, like an O.S.? Has the "new" hard drive already been formatted? I'm only asking for sometimes some of my clients will go behind my back and install things like hard drives on their own and try to load an O.S. on them, failing to go through the formatting process, and they in the end either through frustration or embarrassment wind up calling me to drive to their house and fix their problem, like installing the O.S. properly. Also checking your connections might not hurt, just make sure everything is fitting nice and snug and connected the right way. Both monitors are plugged in and working, cause I turned it on and vista was using both monitors to display the desktop twice (2 pointers) and all of the sudden turned one off, and only one works now...

I suspected a driver problem, so I go to the ATI website and download the driver, and the website lets me download the catalyst program or whatever, and the driver specifically...

I click on them and say run, and after they finish, even with the close this box when im finished box unchecked, it closes and doesn't load anything....so I went to the file again and tried several times, and then when I click to save the file, it just closes as if nothing was ever pressed...

Not having the right drivers installed for the second monitor to work....

A:Brand new computer....

Have you verified which version of Vista you're using (ie 32 bit or 64 bit)?

Next, it's not advisable to select "Run" when downloading something - you won't get any feedback (and, if it's a virus, you've just allowed it to install on your system).

Instead, select Save and save it to your desktop. Once it's there, scan it with your antivirus to make sure it's not infected - then it'll be safe to run (and you can monitor it's progress when installing it).

I just got a brand new laptop and was wondering before I even turn it on for the first time, the proper steps to maximize security for my new PC. I plan on using AVG for antivirus. Also, I was considering the following: ad-aware, spybot, hjt, and spywareblaster. Any other recommended progs? Anything else I should do the first time I turn it on? Also, I do not want to use IE. Any recommendations for a better substitute and do I totally wipe IE off of my system? Thanks in advance.

To the tech guys and mods on this forum, what would you do if it were your PC and you were starting it up for the first time?

Thanks again.

Firefox.
You don't want to disable IE, as other webpages can only be viewed (properly) in IE.

You can get extensions tho for firefox, but they aren't perfect yet and have some bugs, so you would still need IE.

I just put together a new system from scratch ( and regretting it BIG TIME).
I have an intel d915GAG board with an intel P4 3.2 chip. Brand new WD HD, floppy, and 2 dvd/cd drives. After the final screw was tightened, I started my new system and the intel logo appeared. I pressed ESC and it appears to start the bios setup. It flashes my memory size (size is 512 MB), then the screen immediately flashes and begins to do and IDE scan, in which it promptly tells me that Device 0 not detected, device 1 not detected, device 2 not detected, device 3 not detected....and the setup stops right there. I don't have a clue, after searching Intel's site for 2 hours where to go from here. I can sure use a clue. Thanks

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

I bought an eMachines computer not much more than a month ago. It actually got good reviews or I wouldn't have. But about a week or two ago, maybe a bit more, I started having problems with both the DVD-RW and CD-RW. They would not open, nor were they listed in My Computer or Device Manager.

Eventually the DVD began functioning pretty normally again, but the CD-ROM did not. When I found some free time I did some investigating.

I looked to see if the light was coming on in the front panel of it during startup. It wasn't. I switched the power cables first, moving P2 and P3 (the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM ones, respectively) and also P6, which was attached to the hard drive. No luck. I then found an extra IDE cable and switched it out. When I booted, the lights in both blinked; however, the DVD worked and still the CD-ROM did not. Eventually I realized that I could at least get the light to blink on the CD, but only the first boot after unplugging and reconnecting the IDE cable.
Now, I called eMachines tech support and they seemed to think it was simply a faulty CD-ROM. I'm not so sure, because the DVD-ROM had the same problems and they seemingly "went away"...but sometimes the DVD still wont be recognized.

Also, lately the computer has slowed down quite a bit but I think that is probably completely unrelated, with spy/adware being the perpetrator.
Any ideas anyone?

A:Brand new computer, CD-ROM issues

It is always good to check for viruses, adware, and spyware...

However, it is possible for one drive to go bad or be going bad and it will cause the other one to ACT UP. Since they are usually on the same IDE controller... this includes, the good one working part of the time, the good one not being recognized all the time and so forth.

Unhook the one you think is bad, and see if you continue to have problems. If your problems go away, you have found the source!

Have great evening!!

Hello everyone!

I got my new computer yesterday and I'm not getting any sound through it at all.

It's a Knight Series Gamemax computer on Windows 7 with brand new speakers.

I'm not getting any sound at all, and I need help please!

The speakers are mains powered with a jack connection that is plugged into the motherboard. They came with no disc or anything and when I looked up the make and model (Logitech Z130) it says no drivers are needed.

All of my drivers are installed and updated.

I've looked in sound settings etc but my knowledge only goes so far and I have no idea what to do, but by the looks of it it's trying to use one of my monitors for sound output when they have no speakers on them and it won't let me change the settings.

I have two monitors; monitor 1 (HDMI connected) is the one it's trying to use for sound output and monitor 2 is VGA connected.

The speakers work as I tested them on my phone.

Hello, I'm new to the forums. My question is I just bought a brand new gaming pc, the Acer Predator. Out of the box the thing will NOT turn on. No fans, no lights, not a thing. Acer told me to send it back and wait 2-3 weeks but I think something might of been unplugged during the transit to my house from UPS. If it was a faulty component wouldn't the thing at least flicker, turn on and off real quick, or make some kind of noise? What do others think? Send it back or have a friend check it out? Thanks in advance.

A:Brand new computer not working, help??

I think you should send it back but before you do, make sure there isn't another power switch at the back of the case on the power-supply next to the AC input that hasn't been turned on yet. Opening the case might void your warranty.

This zip is way too small to have a dmp file.

Try this method.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Aattach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

processes can be that high and higher depending on your system and what is installed.
What process that, is using up resources is a concern.

Recently (about one month ago) I purchased a new, pre-built computer in Germany. It's a Packard Bell iPower X9097. It's pretty much the best thing a gamer can wish for, hence the nightmare it became. It had Windows Vista Home Premium which, I recon, is the source of some of the problems.
The first thing I noticed with it was the fact that internet browsing had gone completely hay-wire - I typed www.google.com in the browser, but another page started loading and never entirely finished loading; it only displayed most of the text on the page, without any frames, pictures, anything that comprises a modern day web-page.
The next problem surfaced after I reinstalled the whole system (from the recovery dvd), hoping that it would somehow solve the internet thing - the sound has gone down; It was as if I had no driver for my sound card. I tried updating the driver (sort of), but it appears to be the latest version available.
And last but not least, no game that was released after 1999 works. :| Imagine buying a PC for the sole purpose of gaming, but not one game would run on it. The games crash, either at the start of the introduction movie or after a few seconds into the game (if I canceled the movie). Nice, huh?

Do any of you guys have any idea what I should do to make the PC work like it's supposed to?

"Windows Vista Home Premium " is NOT a issue here, as the differences should NOT affect what you are doing.

Nice PC man...
You mentioned a recovery DVD. Do you have a stand alone copy of Vista?
Just Vista not some disk that the PC makers send that's full of bundled software?
If you do and if I were you I would wipe one of my hard drives clean (you have 2).
Then switch the off computer, unplug the hard drive with windows on it and reinstall windows on the blank (unpartitioned) hard drive. Then install a free antivirus like Avast (not some OEM antivirus). Let windows install your driver software. Most of your hardware can be installed by windows using windows update. I have over 30 games installed on Vista without problems. You should think about installing a firewall too because windows firewall is useless. The top 2 are Zone Alarm and Sunbelt-Personal-Firewall though sunbelt is only available for XP (or it was the last time I looked). Also avoid installing unnecessary software (like google toolbar or Alice software) Windows will connect to your internet very easily without installing ISP software. The only thing you may need from the Alice disk could be the DSL modem driver.
Good luck.

Hi,

This is probably not Win XP related but I wasn't sure where to post it so here goes..

I've got a new computer which is;

Motherboard:Asus P5B LGA775 SATAII DDRII PCI-E
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
RAM: 2x Kingston Value RAM DDRII 1GB PC533
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint T133 400GB 16MB SATA2 7200R
DVD: Samsung DVD+RW SH-S182D/BEBE
Sound: Soundblaster Audigy SE 7.1, 24bit/96kHz, EAX
Cabin: Thermaltake Shark Black without PSU
PSU: LC-Power Silent Giant Green 550W 140mm
Graphic: Club 3D GeForce PCI-E 8800GTS 640MB 2xDVI+TV
OS: Win XP SP2
It is working fine and all but so far it froze 3 times and last 2 within 24 hours which started to worry me. And when I say froze I mean everything freezes. If I wait and don't do anything after a while screen goes off as if the computer was shut down which isn't. And I carefully tried to hear any unusual sound while the freezing happens to see if something is wrong but the computer runs normally without any going off/reset sound.

What can be the problem. I'm thinking some hardware problem but I have no idea how to figure it out. Any help appreciated.

PS: During the all the freezings, I was playing the game World of Warcraft while listening to some music in Winamp. So the computer wasn't doing any hard job at all.

Hi,

It's probably your power supply being too weak. Please have a look at the label on the PSU and see what it says about amps on the +12V rail(s). Also, please download and run Speedfan (link in my signature) - post back with a screenshot.

A:Help, Brand new computer, already problems!!!

I think the reason you can uninstall norton is becuase you used Hijack and took it out, like you almost manually did it. Try useing the "win patrol" program to stop it from loading up in the windows start up. Then go in and uninstall the program correctly useing the control panel. Then see if it cuases any problems. If its STILL haveing troubles go to a restore piont and go to a piont where it doesn't freeze up. Then go online and see if there are any patches for norton.

I setup a brand new Windows 8.1 computer for a freinds business. I installed:
- Avast
- LibreOffice
- Flash Player
- HMRC App (UK business government thing)
- Teamviewer QS

Next day there are popups whenever the internet is visited.
So I Installed Malware Bytes to see if I could track down the cause - nothing found.
So with a bit more manual digging, it turns out that there was something called. Digital More installed, more here:
I removed this and all is well.
I then got to wondering:
1) Was this installed by default on a new computer (no other bloatware on the box)?
2) Did this sneak on somehow, after connecting to the internet and before AV was installed?
3) Did this get loaded by another installer (all the installers were downloaded from their owning sites)?

I was somewhat surprised that malware bytes didnt find it, I was led to belive that it's quite good.

Any views, thoughts, musings anyone?

A:Brand new Computer - story

Hi UncleZen My guess is that your friend most likely downloaded something or clicking on something he shouldn't have and that installed the "Digital More" adware on his system. If you say that the image was "fresh" (clean one) on the computer, then I doubt it was present as "out of the box". For number two, unless you browsed on very shade websites/webpages before (and even after) installing avast!, I doubt this is how it got on the system. For number 3 it's still possible, it depends if you really downloaded the installers from their official websites.

Have you applied any of the latest security updates recently? I'm asking this, since recently there has been problems with the symbol servers provided by Microsoft, as a result the symbols provided by Microsoft are outdated and old and do not correspond to the recent timestamp and kernel changes made after the security updates were released. We also means the debugger (WinDbg) will report symbol errors which can't be resolved, and the analysis of the dump files won't be able to be completed. I can't enter any commands or extensions at all!

Code:
***** Kernel symbols are WRONG. Please fix symbols to do analysis.

Hi there,I just received a new HP Elite e9290f computer with the following specifications:Intel Core i7-920 Processor at 2.66GHz per core8MB shared cache on die Level 3Windows 7 Home Premium9GB DDR3 SDRAM1TB SATA HDD at 7200rpm1.8 GB dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 Graphics CardWhat I want to do now is install Windows XP Media Center 2005 on a separate partition. I will be using Partition Master Professional Edition to set up the partition. Is there any specific way that I need to go by this install? I understand that Windows 7 and Windows XP versions have totally different boot loading options. Can anyone offer any help? I would greatly appreciate it. I really don't understand SATA or IDE controllers really well, I'm not sure they have anything to do with what I am asking but would appreciate any clarification. Thanks a lot in advance...

A:Need To Partition Brand-New Computer

Hi Feonix:

In Windows 7, there is a disk management utility built-in already; there's no need to pull out all the big guns in the form of Partition Master PE.
Here's how to access it:

In Windows 7, click the Start button, and locate 'Computer'.
Right-click on 'Computer' and select 'Manage' from the context menu. [Agree that you know what you're doing if UAC steps in]
In the left column of the 'Computer Management Console' you will see Disk Management. Click that.
From here, it's just a matter of determining how much space you want to allocate and the file format (I'd stick with NTFS if you're going to install XP MC).

If this just simply isn't what you need, post back here and let us know. One of us will surely be able to further assist you if you need it. Good luck!

[p.s. those specs made me drool, you lucky dog]

[EDIT] Feonix, the Windows 7 bootstrapper will indicate after BIOS that you have an OS loading choice. It will say something like 'Windows 7 Home Premium' and something to the effect of 'Older versions of Windows'. I had a dual-boot machine at work for awhile with Win7 Ultimate and XP Pro and it worked beautifully, on a far inferior rig compared to yours. Go get em tiger!

Hi,

My mom just bought a brand new PC, Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz with 2 GB of RAM. The trouble is that it came without anything installed on it, so we installed XP Pro without any Service Packs. It took us a while to activate windows, get the upgrades, and secure it - and I think it became infected in this time. Probably even before SP2 was installed.

We could actually have better protected it before connecting to the internet as the driver CD comes with Norton Internet Security, but we didn't so I hope there's a chance to clean itwithout a fresh re-install - because I think it is still in the early stages of infection (not too bad yet).

To secure it, I did many of the steps outlined in this guide, which I think is pretty good > http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/SecureXP.html

My Mom actually has been using this computer for a couple of weeks, but now I'm just making sure it works as it should.

Symptomps: One of the first scans I did (forget what program), came up with some infections
My Mom's biggest complain was that (with this new fast computer) she was experiencing very slow photo editing performance with photos located on an external HDD. I realized that we hadn't installed all the chipset drivers properly, although the CD software said they were installed, and USB 2.0 wasn't working. So now that's installed and I think that might have solved that part.
I ran HiJackThis just before this and saw many suspicious entries, but I didn't delete anyt... Read more

Hi Simi,

Welcome to Tech Support Forum!

I apologize for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy here lately. If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help.

OK, let?s do this first.

NOTE: In the event you already have ComboFix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

CAUTION:
Please do NOT mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

NEXT:

Please REBOOT your computer normally into Windows and post these logs in your next reply:The log from the ComboFix scan located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
A new HijackThis log.

(You might have to paste the logs in multiple posts in the event they are too long and breach the post length restrictions of the forum software).

Also, please let me know how things are running now and if you encountered any problems while you were following the directions I posted.

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right section, so if it is wrong please move it.

My friend recently purchased the parts to a gaming computer, and put it together successfully, but it is having issues freezing.

I tried searching through other forums and found some possible issues, but it didn't seem like they were the issue. The CPU temperature was 129 degrees F and the 12v thingy (sorry I'm not very computer savvy) said it was at 12.049v. Also, the Memory Diagnostics Tool didn't find any issues with the memory. It generally crashes when we are playing games and the CPU usage is around 40ish percent.

It was even freezing during the windows updates right after installing windows, but we wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas before we re-installed windows. Btw, it is running Windows 7.

Anyway, here is the parts list: link

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

So we just bought a new computer a month ago. An Acer Aspire, with Windows 7 64 bit. AMD athlon || X2. 240 dual core processor, 3GB DDR2... yeah, just reading out the stuff on the side of the tower.

I'll admit, I'm not the smartest when it comes to fixing computers, especially new computers I haven't fulled learned yet.

We haven't been doing much on the computer, mainly internet. itunes. etc.

A couple weeks ago I encountered a blue screen, when I was closing windows media player, I didn't think anything of it, because it restarted immediately, and everything was back to normal.

Except it just happened again, and I caught a glimpse of what it said this time, before it restarted on me. It basically said the computer was shut down to protect data?, and when it restarted, it said "data change... update data to DMI!"

So I'm now realizing this is the dreaded BSoD! In the 10 years of my using windows, I've NEVER once encountered this damned blue screen (and my last computer was shot to hell!), but now we get this new one, and twice in one month?? We run a virus & spyware scan every night, and they turn up clean each time. So what gives?

So yes, i'm not the smartest when it comes to this stuff, so laymen's terms would be appreciated!!
We don't have much on the computer yet, as it is only a month old, so if we need to reboot or something, it won't be a hassle, but I don't want to do it unless we have to.

Hello all,
I just got my 4th BSOD in the last 3 days. The first 3 came while I was playing Mass Effect 2 and the last one came while I was browsing the internet and listening to music via Itunes.

I bought the computer parts 2 weeks ago and me and my friend assembled it. It ran fine for the first 1.5 weeks but now I am getting the BSOD and it really worries me.

I am attaching the last 3 minidumps and any help deciphering them would be greatly appreciated because I have never dealt with the BSOD before.

Hi, I bought a brand new computer. It's been freezing when I leave it alone for about ten minutes or so. The whole computer stops. I shake the mouse and everything, and nothing works.

We have disabled Vista turning off the hard drive, we've turned off the screensaver, we've turned off the computer shutting down.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229296 This is the computer I have. All I've gotten on it has been firefox and an antivirus program and a couple of other protection programs. If I leave it alone, it will freeze. I feel stupid that I paid so much for a computer that won't even work, but I'm coming to ask you guys if there's something I'm not doing.

I would really like this computer to work if possible. Thank you so much for your time and if I'm screwed, well, thank you anyway. I hope you all have a great day.

If it's brand new, it should still be under warranty. If you bought it online, you could make arrangements to RMA the unit back to the seller or manufacturer (whichever is applicable). Trying to fix it yourself could void the warranty.

Just curious, if the computer is brand new, how come it came with Vista?

Hello all,

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, and it's worked fine for 3 weeks now, but now I am having this problem:

After trying to install a printer yesterday (a Canon Pixma ip2600), the screen froze up. I got the little arrow that goes in circles, and I waited, and nothing happened. So, I cut the computer off, and cut it back on. Only to find that it would freeze up again while doing something normal, like using firefox.

It's been freezing up pretty much every time I try to use it since last night, and I've gotten these messages a few times:

When turning the computer back on, I get the black screen message about a disc check, and the type is NTFS, and the volume is OS.

Now, when the computer freezes up, I get this message after about 5 minutes of waiting: "Failure- Security Options
Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog."

I tried to do a system restore, and It says, "Windows has detected file system corruption on OS (C)" It asks if I want to do a disc check, but then it tells me it can't because the disc is already in use. Even if I do a disc check on startup, though, nothing is different.

So.... any ideas? I've already uninstalled the printer, I've disabled windows defender, the sidebar is disabled, and I use Windows Live Onecare, and have been using that since day one without any problems. I did recently download MS Office.

Any help would be appreciated.... I'm trying n... Read more

Hi, my friend just got a brand new computer and a few funky things have been going on.

The first few times we restarted the computer it would either load really fast or take a really long time. Then it eventually would just frezze at the Win XP load screen. The blue bar would stop moving.

What I thought the problem was, is that he has the Maxtor Diamond Max 10 16 MB SATA drive. I have the same drive. The SATA cable would come loose and the drive would disappear. I finally glued my cable to the drive and have not had problems since.

So, I decided to check the BIOS. The Maxtor drive was not there. I then made sure the cable was connected. Shut down then started up. Everything worked fine. Installed some games and setup the internet. After I restarted a few times, the same thing happened. It would hang at the Win XP load screen. This time the blue bar kept moving but it would not load. I checked the BIOS again but the maxtor drive was still there.

Also, while this is happening the NVIDIA icon that is in the bottom right of the task bar would be there when I booted up, but the odd time it would not appear.

Now, I am thinking that there is a loose connection with the SATA drive that is causing all these problems. I tried duct tape, but I am thinking of glueing this one too. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions before I try glueing or returning the computer?

Remember this is a brand new computer that has hardly been used, aside from installing 3 games, virus sca... Read more

Hey everyone!
Well, my dad got sick of his Windows ME computer (it liked to shut down and not boot back up every once in a while...), so he bought a new Windows Vista computer from Wal*Mart.
When we got it home, he booted it up and lo and behold it wants a password (username is Walmart).

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated! I am glad to give out information as needed.
