Hi! I got this message of malware (I clicked to remove) during some surfing on firefox and after a while the explorer.exe closes with an error. I try to open it on task manager and it says that explorer can't be found!
I rebooted and then I got this message "c000021A {Fatal System Error}, The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with the status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000034 0x001008ac) The system has been shut down" and can't get anywhere.
I can't even go in safe mode, the same error messages appears!

I was advised to go here from another forum. Here is the topic there for reference. I'll post what I said in the beginning post.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic449016.html

My Latitude D620 laptop cannot start up because it has a fatal system error with a blue screen before it can. The error message follows.

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

Before this error, the laptop would take a while to logon after I woke it up from standby. I had no clue if there was a virus on it or not to be honest.

I have already tried a system restore from xPUD and checked the memory module for any problems.

I would greatly appreciate help in resolving this issue!

A:Logon Process Fatal Error

Did you install any hardware or software before this started happening?
Can you boot into safe mode? (Tap F8 on startup until you get the menu with Safe Mode).
If you can boot into Safe Mode, use Blue Screen View (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html) and post up either a screenshot of the blue screen and/or the .dmp file. This will enable someone to help you further.

I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

http://www.google.com/search?q=Logon Process has failed to create the security options dialog&num=20

Looks like many of them ran a System File Check
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.html
To see what SFC did after it is finished:

The SFC log is contained inside the cbs.log file located at:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
Since the cbs.log may be huge (it's used by other programs besides the SFC),
you might want to do this:

To create relevant SFC-only information gleaned from the cbs.log, and put it
in a small file called sfcdetails.txt, right-click Command Prompt (using the
shortcut in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose Run as
Administrator. By default, the prompt starts in C:\Users\(Your Name).
Type:

cd desktop

Press Enter on your keyboard. Then Copy and Paste this at the prompt:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Press Enter. Sfcdetails.txt should then appear on your Desktop. Now you can view what SFC actually did.

Hi, I am currently running Outlook PST File Repair on a computer that file errors.

I am past the scanning portion and now repairing.

While in task manager, I inadverdantly clicked "Create Dump File". I cancelled this right away. The process is still listed, however the amount of memory hasn't changed in a half hour nor has the CPU percentage. I know SCANPST.exe takes a long time to run, so I really want to know if I ended the process so I can start over as soon as possible. However I don't want to wait 12 hours just for it to keep doing nothing.

The window seems to be hanging, it says "not responding", but I'm not sure that is relevant.

In case, Windows 7 SP 1 x64

Dear Forum,
I did search this forum for this problem and I hope I didn't miss it, but to my surprise I found no mention of it. Otherwise, many other forums have several and lengthy threads concerning this problem from way back in 2006 to the present. And none of the threads that I looked at concluded with the fix.

Hopefully, for some reason, I just never saw the right post and someone's going to tell me that I'm wasting the forum's time, because this was solved a long time ago.

But here it goes:

Every once in a while after I tap the space bar to wake the computer up, and after the Vipre antivirus immediately announces that it's downloading new definitions, Vista locks up shortly after Vipre is done its download. And when I say Locked up... you do have some slight functionality, but you can't do a shutdown or restart. You have to eventually do a hard shutdown. If you hit ctrl alt del for the task manager the screen eventually goes black. Then after a while, a message box appears with the title bar text, "logon process has failed to create the security options dialog", and the message text starting with a "X" in a red circle icon, "Failure - Security Options". After you click on the message box's OK button you now go to a very strange, foggy looking desk top. And as many times as you hit ctrl alt del, you can return to the black screen with the message box, then click OK, and return back to the foggy desktop.

Hi Rand -

What happens if you remove Vipre a/v (as in get rid of it completely - un-install)? Do you have link for this product - I've never heard of it, not that fact really means anything of course.

Does it have a firewall?

What happens when you boot into SAFEMODE ? Try it - tap F8 repeatedly during boot-up.

I assure you - never a waste of time to try and help. After all, by my calculations you have about 5.5 years until you build your next system, right?? (I read your post from last fall !!).

Whenever you open a tab in IE8 it opens up a seperate iexplorer.exe for that page

If you have 10 tabs, then thats 10 iexplore.exe processes running.

I have found out a way to make it so IE8 loads only one process no matter how many tabs you open. Follow this link and enjoy this tweak IE users.

My computer (Toshiba A205 series with Vista Home Premium) has been moving reallly s l o w for the past few days. It will not respond and will periodically freeze sometimes to the point where only a hard close will get it to respond. If I leave it alone, eventually I will get a dialog box with the above message. Ctrl+Alt+Delete yields another message "Failure - Security Options".

Since google is my friend, I have tried all the possible suggestions relating to this error message with no success. I have deleted and reinstalled my Norton 360 Premier Edition, completely removed MS Essential, ran CHDSK and started a clean boot with selective start up items. The problem still exist.

At this point I don't know if I have a virus, although Norton is not picking up anything or if this is some sort of hard drive issue.

If anyone is familiar with this error message and can offer any solutions, I will be very appreciative.

Hi, just got a new laptop with Windows Vista Basic pre-installed. Trying to get it going, having installed various things from the Google package (toolbar, Skype, Acrobat reader, Spyware Doctor). Also AVG antivirus (free download). And Microsoft Office (but the problem was before that anyway). Its spec is Acer Aspire 3694WLMi - Cel 440 512MB 80GB hard drive with wireless network card. However it takes ages to boot, during which we get the message "Logon process failed to create the security option dialog", and then nothing will run. What's going on - something to do with the Vista settings? Or something we installed? And what can we do about it? Thanks in advance for any tips. Jo.

My computer is a Dell Hybrid desktop running Vista Home premium.

Computer becomes unresponsive at startup in normal mode. Unable to run programs, access internet, even opening files causes windows explorer to not respond, computer is unusable outside of safe-mode. I'm able to boot into the safe mode with networking, without issue. Following error pops up after a few minutes,

"Log on process has failed to create the security options dialog.
X - Failure - Security Options. "

I've tried:
1 - updated avast antivirus full boot time scan and malwarebytes - found nothing
2 - spy-ware scan with spybot search and destroy - found nothing
3 - system restore using a date three days ago - no difference
4 - scanned hard drive for disk errors and fixed them - no difference
5 - turned off Super fetch - no difference
6 - sfc /scannow in command prompt, and also did startup repair through the dell diagnostics at bootup- no difference
7. also tried advanced systemcare4 and ran deep scan for registry errors, fixed 14 - no difference

I tried to get a log with hijackthis, but it won't install in safe mode and normal mode won't allow me to install it or do anything else. I'm looking for help in resolving the problem.

New dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and al... Hey everyone, new member here looking for some help. My desktop computer (Windows xp) has been infected with Personal Guard 2009 and I am trying to get rid of it. BleepingComputer offered the solution - download Malwarebytes' anti-malware (MBAM). So I followed the directions (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-personal-guard-2009). Downloaded the setup. Went through the steps and the last step where it says "Setup has finished installing Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on your computer. The application may be launched by selecting the installed icons. Click Finish to exit Setup. 2 check boxes, both checked - Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Launch Malwarebytes' Anti Malware"With those 2 boxes checked, I press Finish, expecting to see MBAM start up. As soon as I do, a box comes up titled "setup" saying "Unable to execute file: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exeCreateProcess failed; code 2.The System cannot find the file specified.I click OK and the exact same box comes up again. Hi,I have fundamentally the same problem as Laura H from this thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic342716.html.I've had problems with these fake antivirus programs before and they really did a number on my laptop. I treated the problem using various tools mostly malware bytes and deleting some suspect files.Been working fine for the most part however today out out of nowhere I was attacked by malware doctor. I deleted the suspect file from the temporary internet files folder and ran malware bytes that detected trojan and deleted. Shortly after drwatson ??? was shut down and some time later I think explorer shut down because my desktop went back to basics....no theme, desktop wallpaper etc. the windows 95 look if you grasp what I'm trying to get at. So for the most part I'm in the same situation as Laura with some minor differences such as I didn't use Spy doctor etc.I have Kaspersky AV installed which has been inefficient in protecting my laptop lately, especially from these fake AV attacks. I am using Windows Firewall which I know is a bad idea.Myrti was helping Laura resolve the issue and I have followed her instructions upto the following actions:'locate this file and right click it > choose rename > rename it to userinit.txtnow we wi... I think rebooting could maybe make things worse, so I figured it would be better to ask for advice before attempting to reboot again, so I don't have the scanning information required.

I began to have problems with my computer this morning (June 29). Last night I had let windows install its updates, rebooted, and left the computer on overnight. When I got up the next morning, it had an error about win32.exe encountering an error and needing to close, one of those error report ones. The first time I didn't bother telling it to send. However, afterwards the taskbar disappeared and ctrl+alt+del didn't do anything. I had to reboot manually, and then it was fine for a while until having another win32 error report, which I sent, and after which my sound failed to work for certain things. My winamp had an error about missing something and wouldn't play, and a youtube video's sound wouldn't play. I didn't have to shut it down manually this time, and the shutdown sound worked. The sound worked again afterward, but I tried virus scanning with Avira and it stopped on svchost.exe.mdmp at 22.1%, and it only found a java/openconnect.l for a ?detection?. I tried getting the task manager, and when I tried ctrl+alt+del and clicked it, it not only didn't give me the task manager at all but it took my taskbar, and then nothing else would work when clicked. I rebooted again and tried running MalwareBytes, and then after a couple minutes the screen went black and then turned blue, and had this:... Read more

Hi everyone,
This morning I turned on my PC (Windows 7 x64) and I get this blue screen error STOP:c000021a [FATAL SYSTEM ERROR].
I can't even get passed the starting windows screen it just keeps on rebooting then getting blue screen again. I've tried safe mode and last known configuration point. Both just give me blue screen after the drivers are loaded. Haven't installed anything new recently so I don't know what the cause of this problem could be. I apparently have no system restore points even though Norton would make them every scan. I can get to command prompt and that is the only thing I can get to. Is there a way I can fix this through command prompt. I think I've attached the screen it gives me and that's all I know.
Thanks!

I have been battling a virus(es) on my desktop for the past couple weeks. Yesterday, I downloaded and ran Spybot in safe mode. It listed 7 problems and I chose "fix selected". Spybot fixed 5 of the 7 and then prompted me to reboot to fix the other 2. Admittedly, I was brain-faded so I didn't look closely at what file names or paths it was trying to fix. Since that particular reboot, I have not been able to load windows since; fyi, I am running XP Pro. When I powerup, the computer flashes the Windows XP logo and then ultimately gives me the following message (before prompting me for login info): Fatal System Error c00021a. windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

At this point, I'm not sure if I have a virus problem that has escalated, causing this fatal error, or a completely different problem. I'll give a bit of a background, since it may be relevent. I run Malware Antibyte scans and Advanced System Care (ASC) scans weekly to clean up any issues, but lately the problems would reappear just hours after running the scan. So, a couple of days ago, I downloaded Avast 5 and completed a scan. I also downloaded a freeware called Teamviewer at that time, although i don't think that is part of the problem, despite the timing. Yesterday morning, when booting up the computer in normal mode, I was unable to see any desktop icons or taskbar, I only could see... Read more

If I choose Microsoft Windows XP Professional, error mesages will appear as below:

But if I choose Microsoft Windows, there will be message stating "Microsoft Windows I\O Error accessing boot sector file multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\BBTSECT.DOS".

What should I do to solve this fatal system problem? Does fixing "ntldr is missing" problem cause this fatal system error?

sub-forum: guides & solved issues

The above forum has information on how to use Recovery Console & Windows XP CD to restore the OS. Caution, I recommend full backup to a 2nd disk. Caution, don't enter 'r' to the first decision point. Caution: next decision made should not reformat the partition. If you have the ability to clone the hard drive, then you have a spare should recovery be re-done.

Other posts recommend configuring computer to a minimum: the boot hard drive, cdrom, and 1 memory module (256MB is the minimum for XP). This is an easier first step before reloading anything.

Caution: oem restore bombs you back to out-of-the-box conditions. All data & applications are overwritten. This is different from above restore.

You did not indicate what significant changes occurred preceding the problem. Is the hard drive entering old age? Was the disk re-partitioned? Were applications closing/freezing in the days leading up to this?

Hi Everyone
I recently did a System Restore on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system to correct a strange problem I was having with IE. It seems to have solved the problem, but now Process Explorer is displaying the messages in the screen shot below, and I'm not sure why. The computer is functioning fine, in fact, since the System Restore it is running like new. Is this something I need to worry about? The computer is a pretty old Dell Optiplex 760 with a 3.0GHz CoreII Duo CPU, a 140GB harddrive, with integrated graphics. I'm not sure what other info might be pertinent

Hi
I apologise in advance for being a bit vague. This happened some months ago while I was abroad and a lot was going on at the time.
I was using an old computer running Windows XP when for no apparent reason I got a blue screen telling me of a fatal error and that the physical memory was being dumped, acounter showed the percentage being dumped and when 100% was reached the computer switched itself off. Amongst the various messages on this screen was one saying that if this was the first time I had seen the message to try restarting the computer.
I tried restarting and some time later the same thing happened again.
My problem:- where is the fatal error likely to be? Is it the operating system or is Windows simply responding to a hardware fault.
As I said this is an old computer and I wondered if a failing motherboard battery would cause this or perhaps a partial RAM failure.
I have another identical motherboard from which I can take all parts which might be needed or if it is the operating system I have all the necessary disks, I am hoping that someone out there can advise where to start as I still do not have much time available for trial and error methods
Regards
phil

A:Fatal Error

When there is no idea what is causing the problem and time is short, one decisive method is to reinstall the OS and device drivers from scratch (or OEM partition or discs). If the problem goes away, it was software, if not, its almost certainly some hardware failure or conflict.

I think my Windows might be toast. I got some sort of virus and now none of my Windows icons (my computer, recycle bin....etc) opertae properly, I cannot open any folders, programs crash at startup. Icons have changed and system restore opens but to a blank white window. I cannot run a restore or anything. I am using Win XP home.

If this is reversible I would like to work through it. I do have an option of running an "out of the box" functionality restore which would save things I made with certain programs but not the programs themselves.

I can post a hijack this log later if it applies. Am I dead in the water or can you guys help me out? Thanks!

The drive has reported a fatal hardware error to disk utility. back up all data and replace with a working drive.

does this mean i just need to change my hard drive? also if i replace my hard drive can i then copy data from it once my computer is working again? thanks.

A:Fatal Error

does this mean i just need to change my hard drive?Click to expand...

Yes
if i replace my hard drive can i then copy data from it once my computer is working again?Click to expand...

That depends entirely on the extent and type of failure.

I advise you turn off the computer immediately and leave it off until you can remove and replace the drive. Reconnect it as a secondary drive only when you are ready to recover the data. Every minute you run that defective drive brings you a minute closer to complete failure when recovery will involve sending it away to a specialist where it will cost you in the $hundreds$ if not $thousands$ to recover your data.

Sometimes (too often) when I do a web search, and then back out of a website to my search list, I get a "fatal error" message and I have to get completely out of I-net Explorer altogether. This process has grown very tiresome. I'd appreciate any answers you might have that lead to a solution of this problem.

My IE also crashes sometimes, usually because of some demanding javascript code. Try to update your IE to the most current version and if it still doesn't help use Opera or Mozilla for your searches. They both have nice features to restrict javascript code and dont even ask about installing Active-X which makes surfing to unknown websites much safer and easier.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

If you can boot it up and connect to the internet follow these instructions'

Scan your pc with one of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

That is a "Memory Management" Issue these are associated with Hardware Failures/Faults. Try starting off by running Memtest86.

Memtest86 Instructions
Download the pre-built version of Memtest86 (Link Below) and burn it onto a CD using ISO Recorder (Link Below) after this boot off the CD and start the test going and let it run for 3-5 hours (Minimum of 7 Passes) or Overnight which is best.

Memtest86 - http://www.memtest.org/
ISO Recorder - http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

And Also Run Prime95 on all 3 tests, "Small FFT's", "Large FFT's" and "Blend". This will detect errors in minutes and automatically stop the program if it finds any. Post back once you have done these and tell me if there are any errors.

Prime95 - This corresponds to your OS which version it is 32bit or 64bit

Hi, welcome to TSF!

You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:
AVG7
Norton

Disable one of your Anti Virus programs.

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, it runs in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an on-access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

Please disable one or the other so they do not conflict.

I'm Running a Pentium 4 with XP Pro, my computer cant find two Western Digital Hard Drives, one a 250 GB (WD2500JB) and the other a 80 GB I use both as back up and most of the time I have I them unpluged from the IDE port, the 250 GB is like a year old and the 80 is like 6 month old.

I have try it making it my primary slave, secondary slave, secondary master and always the same result, every time I turn on my pc I heard the hard drive making a clicking sound and then a message on a black screen saying something like "Primary Slave has a Fatal Error" and the only choice it give me is to restart my system.

I have important data on both hard drive and I wish I could save it, any idea if there is a way to fix these hard drive and what the clicking noise is all about? It sound like is trying to read the drive or something.

I was thinking as a ultimate option to buy another 250 GB and a 80 GB open both of them and changing the disk from the bad hard drive to the new one to see if I could read my data, just in case that the problem is not with the physical disc that store the data inside the hard drive.

Thanks

OK

Be working on fixing this NT 4.0 for the last two days.

I'm now trying to install the os over the old one since repair did not fix the problems

But I am getting the following message with the orig CD of the OS system (security subsystem could not be initialized.)

Before this I tried resetting the login password and still was unable to log in with the proper password

Any idea how or what I need to do to get pass the security message

Thanks

Mike

Hey my name is Erwin and I have a little problem with XP.

I recently bought a new laptop, a Dell Vostro 1720.
This laptop came with windows vista pre installed, but I'm not really fond of vista so I reformatted my partitions and installed windows XP instead (SP2).

However after Installing Xp some problems occured. Somethimes my laptop gave me a fatal error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows SubSystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x75e91a76 0x00c7f5dc)
The system has been shut down.Click to expand...

I thought this had something to do with me not having all drivers installed. So I restarted installed all drivers and the problems seemed fixxed. after this I installed MCafee and Firefox and turned of my laptop.

This all happened yesterday, after having installed all drivers I got one more fatal system error however after restarting everything seemed fine.
Even today when I started up my laptop everything went smooth. I installed 7zip and after this I installed Photoshop CS4.

After the installation I tried to run photoshop and I got the fatal system error again. Now each time I startup my computer this error occurs a few seconds after starting up. I can start up in Safe mode normally.

I hope anyone can help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance.
