Everytime I log onto internet explorer on my laptop, my homepage, Google, comes up just fine, but as soon as I try to go to another site or google anything, I get the message that explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Explorer was working just fine until I deleted Win Media Player 11 in favor of the older but more user-friendly version 10. I believe that both of these programs run exclusive of each other, yet my problem occured immediately after deleting wmp11. I deleted 2 other programs as directed my microsoft in their faq section, I don't remember what they were called. After the problem began, I also tried rolling explorer from ver. 7 to ver. 6 to see if maybe that would make a difference. None. I should note that right after rolling wmp11, I was able to visit about 3-4 sites before getting the error message, and this was possible about 3 times. Now I can't get further than the homepage.

Can anyone help me in my quest of being able to google anything at anytime, rather than waiting to come home to the desktop? I don't know if more information is required than what I have provided. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

A:Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Try a Sevices repair.

Type SFC /SCANNOW into the RUN command.

Have your Window CD Handy.

May take a while {40 minutes or so} dpending on your Hardware.

Hopefully that will do the trick.

A client's PC keeps popping up this error whenever I try to browse file folders, or install applications.
This issue does not occur in safe mode.
PC is running Windows XP Professional on SP3.

I first issue I found on the PC was that McAfee was completely corrupted, I.e. upon startup, clicking on the tray icon yielded a white square where the McAfee interface would normally display, and the application would not load at all. There was also a pop up that McAfee Service Host has encountered a problem and needs to close. I assumed somehow the installation had corrupted and tried to uninstall the application, however, ran into the explorer issue.
Further investigation found there was a kavo item being triggered during startup. After following instructions online to remove all traces of the worm, I also ran the McAfee software removal tool to uninstall McAfee (note all this could only take place in safe mode).

As of now, I'm left with the explorer.exe issue, which I still am unable to resolve. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close

The only sensible solution in my opinion is a clean re-install.

Others might say try sfc /scannow. Or on XP a repair installation is possible which does not replace existing data and (many) settings.

Windows XP Explorer is crashing with (2) instances open and drilling down (3) levels within 'My Documents'. interestingly, one folder (thumbnail view) lacks file names.

i have scanned for malware with Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes, run a full CHKDISK and "SFC /scannow", AVAST boot-time scan, and selective startup clean boot. I cannot run System Restore. Going on four hours to run GMER, which seems odd.

i have a 2007 Dell Latitude D520 laptop; it has a hidden diagnostics partition but did not ship with XP restore media. Error message:

Hello, this is my first post. I needed some help with my Windows PC as this problem has been bugging me for months already. The problem goes like this: error messages like "WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE" randomly appears regardless of what action I was doing with the computer at that moment.

I've got Avira Premium Security Suite installed with firewall enabled and also have A-Squared Anti-malware installed. Both have not detected any viruses, worms, trojans, etc.. What exactly is the problem causing this error message to appear again and again? I have also ran CCleaner and fixed all issues, still the problem persists.

Hello, artlee
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. Well if it's 4weeks old, I'd give Dell a call to see what they can do. If it's an issue that just started, you could try running a system restore to see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'd try using your restore disk to get it back to factory default and see if it still does that. If it does, my suspicion would be RAM.

About a week ago my computer showed signs of being infected with spyware or adware or something. Since then I've had a series of small problems leading up to what I hope isn't a BIG problem.

So, last week I was getting re-directed online to spam pages and stuff like that. I had some trouble getting rid of it, and following various sources of online advice I ran AVG, Malwarebytes and some other programs. Eventually I got rid of that problem, but then every time I'd boot up I'd get a message saying "Error loading: C:\WINDOWS/ipwuie.dll (...) the specified module could not be found." (I think that was the result of a conflict between AVG and Malwarebites. One of the programs asked if I wanted to delete some dll file and I said OK, and ever since I've had that pop-up message.) Trying to get to the source of THAT problem, I've run Free Windows Registry Repair, CCleaner and many other programs I don't even remember anymore...

Which leads us to the bigger problem. Somewhere in there, in addition to the dll error message, my computer started showing the message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" about 50% of the time, when I first boot up. I get the message, but then after I click it, it goes away and my computer seems to operate normally. My chief concern is that this minor inconvenience could be a sign of something more serious. (And I should make it very clear this is WINDOWS EXPLORER, not Internet... Read more

If the repair did not complete, you likley have some disc errors . . you can download and run diagnostics from the drive manufcturer to check that. I'd back up any data you cherish first . . it the disc is having physical problems, you may loose some of the data . .

Edit: , , I now see that you used a Home disc to repair a Pro installation . . you likely hosed the installation well and good. You can try repairing with the right disc to see if it can undo the mess.

I tried ran a virus scan and it did caught a trojan ctfmon.exe and it found and deleted it.
I also thought it had to do with this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946627.

I installed the patch and it still comes up.
I also tried system restore and nothing worked. I am still getting this. I hate to have to re image my laptop. I am hoping someone can help me figure this out.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm receiving that ominous message periodically. It was really bad for a while, where I really couldn't use my PC. Took it to a friend, and he basically cleaned out my StartUp folder to the absolute necessities, which really helped. I know that many tech people frown upon it, but I have SpeedUpMyPC, which I run daily, and Registry Booster and PCOnPoint, which I run weekly. In terms of security, I use SpywareDoctor, SpywareBlaster, and AVG, which I keep updated and run at least weekly. I've disabled Script Debuggers in IE and Firefox, my default browser. I use Eudora for my email. I've also ran Shexview, but really don't know what needs disabling. The only thing I did disable was AmericaOnline, because I don't use it. Usually, a couple of reboots will do away with the problem for a while, but it's really aggravating. Is there anything I could run that would identify the problem? BTW - I'm a loyal Tapwave Zodiac user, and sync it to my PC through a USB charger/cradle.

A:window explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

Well the first thing to note is, we do not condone the use of registry cleaners. They do not always work as intended and have a tendency to cause more problems than they fix.

The first thing I would do if I were in your position would be to run the system file checker.
Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.
In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.

Hi Guys,
I have a Windows XP system and I receive the message upon System Start Up:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
After hitting the "click here" link, it reads:

"Error signature -- EventType : InPageError P1 : c000009c P2 : 00000003"

Then, after clicking "To view technical information about the error report, click here," it reads:
C:\DOCUME~1\Deb\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER00ea.dir00\explorer.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Deb\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER00ea.dir00\appcompat.txt

Besides receiving this message on starting up, I also receive it other time. Also, I am not able to shut down the computer manually, because I am not able to click on Start menu. So every time I have to take out the battery to turn it off.

Do I need to reboot the computer or what should I do? I am not a computer expert. Also, I have tons of pic in the D drive and I don't want to loose that. Now the computer is so slow that I am not able to transfer it. I really appreciate your help.

I am not sure if this thread is in the wrong place, please let me know where it is supposed to be or move it there -- just let me know when it is moved.

Thank you for any help for this specific problem. So far it's just been an annoyance since everything works for the most part.

Start your computer in safe mode by continually tapping the F8 key after you turn on your computer and then use your up or down arrow key to select safe mode and then hit the enter key.

Once it is running you have a better chance of diagnosing it.

IF it will run in safe mode access the event viewer under administrative tools and look at what is listed under "application". You will be looking for the most recent ones that are the red circle with the white X in it.

Click on the icon to copy that info in that error to the clipboard and paste it here.

Looks like the User32.dll file is either missing or damaged, see if this solution will help http://www.smartcomputing.com/techsu...&ErrorID=21263 the following is quoted from here

• For a Missing or Damaged User32.dll File

Use Recovery Console to replace the corrupted or damaged User32.dll file, then, if needed, perform an in-place upgrade (also called a repair install) of WinXP. To do so, follow these steps:

Insert the WinXP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive and then restart the computer. Select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so.

When the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears, press R to start Recovery Console. (See the sidebar “Using The Recovery Console.”)

At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

cd windows\system32

To rename the User32.dll file, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ren user32.dll user32.bak

To expand a new copy of the User32.dll file from the WinXP CD-ROM to the System32 folder, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

expand D:\i386\user32.dl_ c:\windows\system32\user32.dll,where D: is the drive letter for the drive that contains the WinXP CD-ROM, and c:\windows is the drive letter and folder where WinXP is installed.

This is what is shown, recently,i have been affected by the pinfi.parite virus, and after much trouble, deleted it using a Trend Micro program, however,it has greatly affected my system and deleted alot of programs which were affected i have been trying to repair,it has even deleted the windows paint program i believe, but the most troubling problem is this one,as displayed in the picture above,i have been able to *fix* it by running explorer again via task manager but it is not a solution as this occurs every time i close a window's folder (not sure how to explain it,but by clicking the X at the top right when im browsing through my folders) i also used to have Dr Watsons postmortem(sp?) debugger failing on me just as explorer did,but i managed to fix it by deleting the registry entry, but this problem still persists.

Im pretty sure im on windows XP sp 3 since i have auto updates on,im using a windows xp profressional.

I was surfing the net 3 hours ago and started getting pop up ads and then my computer froze up, so I restarted and now I am getting these two errors which is very annoying cause the "Windows Explorer" error never goes away and along with the pop up ads.

These are the errors I am receiving:

RUNDLL Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\jihopadu.dll

For some reason GMER is not opening up. I am also having the same problem with opening up Malwarebytes. It just does not open up, I do not know if the cause is because of my problem. Anyways here is the DDS and ATTACH.

am running IE 7 and seem to encounter several error messages about IE having to close. Does anyone know what this is about, and ways to fix it? Please do the following : Go to START RUN and type eventvwr and post the messages with red crosses. There could a lot of issues causing that, so posting the error messages will help us identify the problem. Also, I am trying to find the correct forum in which to post a problem about "Click here to activate and use" when trying to play a media file in explorer. Please post that in the Audio and Video forum eventhough that also could be browser related. Think this error coincide with the error messages you get while using IE7

Logged on and there was control panel. But now I can not access the internet. keep getting "encountered problem had to close". I am on another computer because it will only log on for 5 to 6 seconds. Hi,

Lately, when I access my folder(s) contain flv videos whose capacity under 1 MB (maybe), an error message appears "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close...." I've scanned for viruses with PCMAV (updated) and ClamWin (newer & updated); virus-free. Well, the problem wasn't used to happen.

How to solve this problem?
Thanks.

Run a scan with Malware Bytes Anti-malware ( http://www.malwarebytes.org ) and SAS ( http://www.superantispyware.com ) if they dont detect anything, then do this: Download Process explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb896653.aspx and expand& attach explorer.exe content....

Hi mdsoft

Quick-fix try =
1) Use Add-Remove in Control Panel to revert to IE 6.
2) If you still receive that error message, use System Restore to just before you installed IE7

If that works, and you still want to try IE7, visit Windows Update, and install all Critical Updates pending, as well as one in the "Optional" updates category that helps with some IE7 problems with http [view the "Details" option to see which one]. Then you can try IE7 again if you wish. If you are using peer-to-peer software, be aware that your exposure risk to malware is fairly high - and take the usual precautions (firewall, antivirus, antispyware -- and do some "thorough" setting scans).

Best of luck

Hi, this is my first post on the Forum, so i hope i do it right! I hope someone out there can help please.
I've had my Packard Bell Home p.c. for a few months now. It's recently started giving random "WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE" error messages. One way i've found that often causes this is when using the START - Search-All Files and Folders facility (I usually insert something like MICKEY when i want to see if the fault will occur) though it can happen whenever it feels like it. The error signature data is as follows:-

I've got full ZONEALARM INTERNENT SECURITY SUITE, SPYBOT, AD-AWARE, WINDOWS DEFENDER - all are at the latest updates and come up clean. I'm using WINDOWS XP HOME SP2 with all the latest updates, plus Office 2000. I've also got CCLEANER - I ran an ISSUES scan and temporarily disabled everything without success.

I've run thru' the 5 STEP PROCESS on the HIGHJACKTHIS LOG HELP. Here's what happened:
Step 1: I used Zonealarm and Spybot, in Normal Mode. Hope this is o.k.

Step 2: I ran all six listed Anti-virus/spyware scans, in the order listed. TREND came up with "KEYL.SE.71724" (now deleted - though an internet search shows this could be a false alarm anyway). Also it came up with "RTF DOCUMENT LINKED TO TEMPLA... Read more

Any time I close my browser the message "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" appears. I recently had my hard drive reloaded and am still having the same problem. I run virus and spyware software bi-weekly. I also downloaded IE7 and still have the same problem. I have talked with my local tech support and they can not seem to tell me how to fix the problem. They told me to empty my temporary internet files, which I have already done. They also said it might be the web sites that I am at. It happens on all web sites. Please help me to resolve this!!

Hi, and welcome to TSF

So just to be sure. Whenever you try to open internet explorer, you get the message that it has to close. Does this occur all the times or just sometimes?

At first I'd say your IE has some sort of plugin error which is causing this problem. Try setting your IE to the default settings.

Hi. Two days ago my computer was running fine. I tried to open media player and it froze up so i shut it down. When i tried to reboot it, it would only load the menu bar and the background which wasn't the background i had on there. I tried again. This time it did the same thing but said that explorer needed to close. the error message reads

Appname- explorer.exe
Appver- 6.0.2900.2180
Modname- gdiplus.dll
Modver- 5.1.3102.2180
Offset- 0014eecb

I can get explorer to work if i keep task manager open and go to run program explorer (or any other program). I can't get my background to work though because when i try to restore it it gives the error message.

I've got an updated version of avg, i scan it daily, nothing has shown up, i've tried scanning the hard drives to see if there are corrupted files... it showed a couple weird things but it fixed them.

I'm not sure what's wrong or what i can do about this. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :-)

If you have figured this out, please advise me as to what you did to correct it. I have had this problem for months and nobody knows what's causing it or how to fix it. On my PC it only happens in 3 of the limited user accounts but not in my limited or my 2 Admin. accounts. At first I thought it was caused by my Acronis backup-no; then I thought it may be ActiveSync, or it was caused by the backup option in the menu that probably shouldn't be accessed by a limited user--Anyhoo, I still don't have a clue--Acronis scanned my entire pc and couldn't find an explanation
I am not a novice and always find a cure--but I am stumped this time( apparently along with everyone else.)

PS I have seen this question in many forums and guess what ??--No replies

The first thing I would do is download and run in SAFE Mode is Adaware you already got Spybot run again in SAFE Mode as well as other Antivirus/Trojan software like A2 Square or Ewido they are free for X amount of time. Just so you can get cleaned up enough to run some online scanners like Housecall or Pandas Active Scan and then run them.
Post back after you try some of those and maybe someone knowledgeable can chime in.

When troubles began, and I could still operate in normal made (not safe mode) I ran CCleaner and AVG.

When I became limited to safe mode today, i tried clearing out some disk space by deleting some old files, uninstalled several programs (AVG, for example) and ran disc defragmentaion. I also tried to restore the system to the last functioning date.

I can operate in safe mode, generally. But sometimes I'll even get the above explorer error and have to shut down there too. Help!!!

Go to disk management...take a screenshot and attach it in your next post.Let's try this.Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html.Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file. When scanning is done, Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.Save the report as BSOD.txt.Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.Louis

Hello, I am having similar problems with IE pop up window which repeats itself every 2 seconds. If I let it go on for several minutes I have about 30 or more boxes to delete. It only happens in normal mode and not safe mode. I have run every virus scans available Norton's, Panda, Ad Aware, Hijack this etc.. I keep getting search sites for porn and .com sight in the domain folders in the registry along with the pop up window. I have tried to delete the files but on start up they reappear????I have checked the system 32 files but might be missing something.
I am definitely missing something!!!!
I recently deleted some of the domain folders which may be why the pop up window reappears, but I am not sure.
Help please!!!

This occurs when I access folders in Explorer (sometimes). Most often when I try to open an image or video file. I usually have Firefox open when this occurs. I use WMP 11, VLC 0.8.6d and IrfanView 4.0. I run ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7, Cobian Backup 8, Peer Guardian 2, Ad-Aware 2007, Java 6, APC PowerChute.

I've research this a bit, without much luck. Any help would be well received. Thanks.

A:Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, error

It's possible that one of those multimedia files are corrupt, mainly a video.

Does this happen in several different folders, or just one?

You need to find the culprit and delete it.

How many files are in that folder?

windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience

I get the error message when ever I close out of explorer/my computer/my documents.

As soon as it does that my desktop icons all disappear but everything comes back a second later.

I'm not sure if this is a virus or not.
This is after a complete hard drive partition/format then reinstall xp home.

I have been loading all my programs I use back in and did hit one virus.
I was looking for the smartFTP 2 free version since number 3 is pay now.
But landed on a virus downloading that.
I've done used a few virus scans since then to remove anything.

I'm not sure when I started getting the error, and it is to late to do a restore as I have installed to many programs since then.

Please help me find a way to fix.

I have continually been getting the message that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I only have the option to click close and then, if it happens on my desktop, I lose my whole desktop (screen goes black) then when it comes back on all I have in my task bar is the volume. Everything comes back if I restart my computer. If this happens while on a web site, I click okay and everything freezes up. All I can do is push the power button to shut the computer down.

I've tries sfc /scannow three or four times. I thought that would take care of it but it doesn't. The scan finishes and then closes. There's no report or anything like that to let me know what was fixed. I don't know what I was suppose to do after the scan finishes. I've always restarted my computer afterward. After every scan, I end up getting the same message maybe a day or two later.

I have Windows XP home, with Service Pack 2 and all patches etc. I have Norton Internet Security 2005. I have Registry Mechanic 6.0, WinOptimizer Platinum Suite and The Ultimate Troubleshooter. I wonder is one of those could have deleted something that shouldn't have been deleted.

I've had no training in computers, what little I know has simply been through trial and error. I'm terrified to even think of messing with the registry myself, that's why I have registry mechanic.

Once this message occurs, the startup stops - hitting don't send a few times ends up with the message Dr Watson has encountered a problem and needs to close. The computer does not respond to "don't send" and I have to shut off manually.
I've tried safe startup and resetting different restore dates which has been unsuccessful.
Any ideas? I'm thinking that I'm out of luck!

About 75% of the time I open (double left click) My Documents or any sub folders therein I get this:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: explorer.exe
ModVer: 6.0.2900.5512 Offset: 00011900

after which it closes, all the icons disappear from the desktop momentarily, and the taskbar reloads. This usually happens the first three or four times I try to enter My Documents, so that I can get around it by retrying until it stops. However, it's not that rare for the first error message to be followed by this:

You chose to end the nonresponsive program Windows Explorer
szAppName: explorer.exe szAppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 szModName: hungapp szModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset: 00000000

followed by a Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I've actually had this problem for quite a long time now and just recently I started getting this:

Windows DEP (data execution prevention) has closed the program Windows Explorer.exe

I have no idea what's going on here. I have run various scans (Avira, Malware Bytes, Windows Defender, Ad Aware) but they found nothing. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what it might be?

I would be very grateful for any help or insight.

Look in the Event Viewer and see what errors are showing up at the times that this is happening.Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Event Viewer. On the right side of the page you will see the options Applications, Security, and Systems, double click on Systems. There are eight columns on this page, the three that you will want are Type, Date, Time, and Event. The errors will appear in the Type column, they are red dots with a white X inside of them.Warnings will appear as a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside. When you see an error, double click on it and see what the description is.Please post the error code/s found in the Event column and the descriptions back in this topic.

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. This is not a new problem - I just don't know what to do to fix it. I can't find anything that the occurrences correlate to, although sometimes clicking on a search will cause it. I have up-to-date Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware (SpySweeper) and I quarantine anything that I am not sure of and deal with it later. It is rare for me to reboot (maybe once a month), but when I do everything is back to normal. I am up-to-date on all of Microsoft's updates. I'm sure that there is a guru out there that solves these problems in his/her sleep... but I need help.

The operating system is Windows XP Professional version 2002, Service Pack 3. The motherboard is Compaq and the BIOS is 2001/10/23. I have a 1 Gig of RAM and 2 - 300 Gig IDE hard drives with multiple partitions. The CPU is an AMD athlon 1.59 GHz.

A:Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

i'd make use of avg free edition (free.grisoft.com) and ad-aware se personal, for starters. usually those two will flag whatever's on your computer that shouldn't be. reply how the scans went, especially the avg scan.

i reccomend mozilla firefox instead of ie as a default browser. it's freely available for download and has some features you're bound to like.

A:HELP!! error message: windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

You've definitely got some nasty malware on your system there. Please click on and follow the directions in the 5 Steps link in my signature below to scan your system for malware and to post a Deckard's System Scanner log in the HijackThis forum section. Unfortunately we cannot advise about HijackThis logs in the XP section.

As far as the explorer error, if you have a Windows XP CD you can insert the cd and then go to Start > Run and type "cmd" w/o quotes. Then type in "sfc /scannow" without quotes to run the Windows File Checker. It will check the system files on your PC and if they have been altered they will be replaced with a copy from your XP cd.

Definitely follow the 5 steps link in my signature below though. You've got some nasties on your system.

The subject: HP zt3000 laptop - 1GB RAM, Windows XP Pro SP1, only a few months old.

My neighbors son brought this to me with a new record of Malware, Trojans, etc. on it. He also had some real fun ones like VX2 and that *#$! Aurora/Nail.exe mess from Direct Revenue! After a lot of manual work and running Ad Aware, CWShredder, Spybot, MS AntiSpyware, Bazooka, Spy Sweeper, CounterSpy, TDS-3 Trojan Scanner, the Ewido suite and a few other tools to get rid of Aurora, it finally is clean. My HijackThis logs look good. I have updated the computer with all available updates but I have one problem left.

I know get a the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close . . ." pop up as soon as the computer boots up. It does not have any link or button for details (where there would normally be information of the offending process/dll). It only has a close button which indeed closes it, but it reapears in 10-12 seconds. This box pops up regardless of whether IE is even open. It will still allow me to use IE - I just need to move the box out of the way.

My first thought was a left over BHO, but HijackThis shows no BHOs!

I tried unchecking the "enable third party browser extension" but the error still pops up (seeming to confirm a BHO not being the cause).

I forced a IE reinstall (changed the reg value for IE and OE to 0) and reinstalled. That did not help.

I tried the IE-Fix tool and it too did not work.

I just did an XP Pro repair install and ... Read more

Hi there! I think there's something wrong with my computer. Every 2-5 minutes or so, i get a pop up saying that "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The funny thing is -- i was not using Internet Explorer at all. I'm using firefox. When I first started firefox, a pop up similar to the one with Internet Explorer popped up, but when ignored it firefox worked fine. When i start my computer, there is a google installer popup. After an hour or so, my computer would freeze up and i would have to restart it. I ran a symantec Antivirus Scan earlier today and no viruses/threats were found. I also ran MalwareBytes and two detections were found (rebooted computer to clear it). This happened today after i ran the scans. Yesterday, i had a problem with the fake Antivirus adware; which is now taken cared of.When i clicked the error report for the Internet Explorer pop-up:AppName: iexplore.exeAppver: 8.0.6001.18702ModName: unknownModver:0.0.0.0Offset: 00ee1626Google Installer:AppName: googleupdate.exeAppVer: 1.2131.7ModName: googleupdate.exeModVer: 1.2131.7Offset: 00006eefFirefoxAppName: firefox.exe AppVer: 1.9.0.3642 ModName: unknownModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00da1626My DDS log:DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Windows at 22:44:59.10 on 01/10/2010 SunInternet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.936.86.1033.18.703.69 [GMT -5:0... OK, I installed the software on my laptop and my wife's desktop and it works on both. So it has to be an issue with my comuter. I purchased and ran Registry Patrol in hopes that would repair whatever issue there is but it did not.
