A:can someone make a cool logo for me?

Ok.
This is what I have for you initially.
Although, if you can give me some insight as to what the logo is for, I may be able to come up with something a little more appropriate

Id love to know some things that can help my screen desktop look really cool

A:Cool things to make your desktop look sweet?

I'd definitely take a look at the Stardock website. They are very reliable and have all kinds of ways to customize your Desktop. A lot of people like Rainmeter which has a very popular weather gadget.

And don't forget what's available on your own system:
Right click: Desktop
Choose: Personalize
You can personalize your background, screen saver, colors, sounds, mouse pointer monitor’s resolution, icons + fonts

Hi, thought I'd see if all is well on the folk's PC, since I'm not up close and personal with it like this often. For one thing I think the google toolbar entries are different than they are on other machines I have it on. (Mainly want to make sure nothing sinister is going on, but would also be interested in shutting off everything that can be. For example I did install Windows Messenger and enable Remote Assistance since we are going to try that when the need arises after I leave again, but assume I should figure out how to keep Windows Messenger from being on all the time. It's not enabled in msconfig or anything.)

Here's their log. We all thank you!

Hello -

A group that I am associated with is evaluating a Sharepoint 3 site, and I have been having problems with testing Windows 7 configurations.

Specifically, I have a Windows 7 system using IE8 and Office 2007 student. I can check out, edit and check in a document using Word, but when I reopen the modified file from the Sharepoint 3 site, my changes are not visible.

Does anybody have experience with a problem like this, and if so, were you able to find a solution?

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi,
I would like to surpress the CheckOut and/or CheckIn notification when I open a file on a SharePoint share for editing and saving

I have some macros working that correctly do the CheckOut and CheckIn of a file on SharePoint.

However, like the command Application . DispalyAlters = False to avoid the confirmation prompts when deleting or overwriting a file I was wondering if there is an option when addressing an Excel file which I open to modify or add a record to avoid getting the Prompt, it reduces the click moments for a user and also avoids the mistake if somebody places a check-mark and the file remains checked out for all others.
I hope I was able to explain my requirement

Running windows 7

For the first time in 15 years of using a PC, I've finally come down with a virus. It seems to redirect my searches to different fraud search engines, mostly "coolsearchsystem.com".

Microsoft Security essentials identifies it as: Sirefef.D and Sirefef.E, but it doesn't seem to be able to remove them completely. All resources online so far have also failed.

Hi guys.. looking for some support if possible.  Pretty much a noob to HPDM but I'm learning fast!! I have a new deployment of HPDM 4.7 SP3 installed which has an agent version of 4.7.3660.23743. I've inhertied a Thin Client estate which mostly has a 4yr old version of the client out there, ver 4.4.3660.12990. These clients are mainly t610s.  Ive tried to import 10 or so of these clients manually, but they arent checking in and remain in the Unidentified tab.  Ive found some newer thin clients, t620s, running clients around 4.6, and they check in no problem and i can upgrade them via the _Upgrade Agent job, no problems. If i try to manually point these older agents to my DM server, I get "Error of writing gateway address, please retry it", i guess the agent software is corrupted in some way.  These are all WES7 32bit clients so there appears to be no MSI or method for me to deploy this manually. Willing to set a GPO to upgrade these agents if need be.. is there any manual method for upgrading 32bit OS agents? Tried to pick apart the _Upgrade Agent task also, to see if i can script this manually, but I'm having no luck with this.  Any help appreciated with a way to upgrade my agents!!  ThanksAndy

I have a Dell XPS heating up quite alot.. is there a way to make the fans kick in at a lower temperature?
Also, in Dell's power manager > thermal management, I've set it to "cool" which could reduce performance and give more fan noise.
I've set it to "cool" but  nothing seems to have changed, so what does that "cool" setting do precisely?
Thanks for all good feedback!

wow..i dropped my temp to 29c on the cpu...im happy, i ran the cpu fan power though my PSU and used my case fan controller to adjust the speed..i just leave it up..despite the noise. IM wondering how long it will take for the artic silver i put on the cpu to "burn in" and maybe lower my temps by 1-3degrees..im also wondering if anyone can gimme a good idea on what kind of CPU fan and heatsink i should invest in..im was thinking thermaltek... :bounce:

A:COOL COOL COOL...literally..

Congrats on your low temps. Is that at idle or full load, and how much does it increase when the CPU is actually working? That's the test of good cooling.

Sandra has a good burn-in routine to heat up your CPU.

I've never really seen the 'burn-in period' actually give you any better cooling. Maybe if you slather the AS on too thick, the fan vibration squeezes the excess out the sides and you then have a thinner layer and better contact.

I'm not familiar with HSFs, especially for A64 so I'll leave that for someone else to comment on.

Hi. I just want to know if there is a hack that will make the print spooler start in safe mode. I'm using Windows Vista 64 bit. If there is no hack currently, could someone tell me of an easy way to create one? I know there was one for xp, but it didn't work for Windows Vista. Thanks.

A:How do you make a hack to make the print spooler start in safe mode

The link to the safe mode hack for xp is this: http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/in...dpost&p=267002, but it doesn't work for Vista. Could someone tell me how to modify this for Vista? I would have modified my original post to include this info, but a message came up saying that I couldn't edit my post after the first 15 minutes of posting it. That didn't make any sense to me since I've been on forums where you could edit your post at any time. Could an admin fix that please? Thanks.

Ghost, let me make sure before I make things worse.

If I add a second hard drive temporarily as a "slave" and use Ghost to clone the master to the slave, am I correct in assuming the following:

if I have problems with the original hard drive, I could reformat the drive add the "ghosted" drive as a slave and with Ghost transfer the "cloned" info to the original HD?

if I had imaged instead of cloned I could do the same as above?

If my assumptions are not correct or if there is a better way what should I do?

P.S. I do not want to leave the slave drive in the machine.

I guess the bottom line is what is the easiest way to get info back on the original hard drive using ghost on a Windows 98 machine with a floppy and CD-ROM?

Previously when I was using Windows 7, the system restore points were created automatically whenever I installed a new SW or made other similar system change. But it seems not the case in Win 8 any more.

I am a SW developer. Although I normally test our SW on virtual machines, but some other time I just install part of it directly on the development machine. The SW of course might have some problem. Today when I tried to restore my system to a status right before I installed the problem SW, I just found out that I don't have these restore points. The system indeed created some restore points automatically, but those don't seem to cover all the changes I made to the system. Is there a way to configure it? Thanks!

A:How to make Win8 make restore points automatically

Maybe your restore point disk space allocation is inadequate to hold all restore points that might be created automatically. My record of restore points implies that restore points are being created for all SW installations, but the record does not go very far back in time.

My Dlink Wireless router has failed and I was wondering if a different brand, such as,Ativa, or Linksys or any other brand other than Dlink will work with my Dlink computer cards I have?
I have had a couple of Dlinks to fail and was wondering about changing brands.

Thanks

"parts are parts".......any brand will work with another but it is best to macth brands if you need to call Tech Support. They will just blmae the problem on the other device.

Hi,

I have several macros I've written for Word VB, which all work fine. But I would like to make them only affect all pages after page 3 in my documents, so that these first three pages are never affected by all the operations carried out in the macros. So, I want Word to only look at pages 4 up to the document's last page(this number varies). How can I do this be, please?

Thanks,
Kay

A:How to make Visual Basic Macro only make changes to certain pages

The current page number is :
Pagnr = Selection.Information(wdActiveEndPageNumber)

Total number of pages:
TotPages = ThisDocument.ComputeStatistics(wdStatisticPages)

I'm not a word vba'er so I can't be much help past that. The next question would be how to GoTo that page? If you can GoTo nextpage until you get to 4 but you could also loop count and get there? Maybe others can provide better info, this might be enough info to 'Google' intellegently.

im planning to put 4 extra fans so how should
4 in

2in & 2 out
pls help...tnx

A:how to cool down???

It depends. Do you currently have case fans? If so what are they(front/back, in/out)?

I think people say it's good to have more fans blowing in the case than blowing out. I think it minimizes dust that way, or maybe I have it backwards.

NOW I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION, I NEED SOME HELP! this is the only way to get any help, ive made 3 other posts and nobody is responding because nobody is looking at it! so i thought i might just trick you into looking at it (hehehehhehheehhehe) By the way, if you are reading this, you have been TRICKED.
Ive been getting this crappy bsod error again. .

*** SISNIC.SYS -address f9e2abac base at f9e29000, date stamp 3b0b016b

Its something to do with my onboard networking... I found this out because when i leave the RJ-45 cable unplugged, it will boot up fine, but if i plug it in even after the computer is started up, it will immediately go to BSOD. I need this fixed asap as im going to LAN gaming thingy (as most of you already know from my other post) Any help would be appreciated. By the way, i am pretty sure (cant be 100%) the problem is not graphics card conflicting or ram, because i have installed different drivers for my geforce mx4000, and switched to my radeon 9200. and ive tried 2 seperate sticks of ram.

I got a digital camera and i am having problem loading it to my pc, my pc is windows 98, However, when I attempt to download the driver for my computer , I can download the exe file just fine - but when I attempt to install, I get through the language selection screen, then click on install, and get the following message: "The file 'C:WINDOWS\INF;C:\CABS\stv680.inf' could not be opened. Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory. The system cannot find the path specified." My disk is not full - I know that for sure - about 75% free right now. Anyone have any suggestions about what my problem might be? I have contacted the camera site, but as of yet have not been able to find the problem, and I did see someone had a same problem and he downloaded a drive from the internet, I did and put the file in the directory required and its still not working ? please help !

Hi all,
I run a gts 250 from BFG, it runs great and gets a good idle temperature 33C but when i play crysis it sometimes overheats and artifacts even on stock clock settings, max temp 78C, (i took the temperatures with hardware monitor) and i was looking at pci fans because i thought that maybe putting a pci fan in the pci slot closest to my graphics card might help it cool better what is your oppinion on this?

here are some links to the pci fans i've been looking at if you have any recomendations please feel free to tell me by the way noise is not an issue my loudest fan in my case is about 38 Dba. so anything under that is fine.

pci fan 1 : http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...CODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE

pci fan 2 : http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=39598&csid=_21

pci fan 3 : http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3127373&csid=_21

Any help would be appreciated thanks

P.S My case can't support anymore case fans it actually only fits one 6cm case fan the rest of them listed in my profile are either added through case modding or "redneck-rigging". But i have 2 free pci slots so thats my only option.

OK i have:

- Athlon 1.33ghz
- 512mb PC133
- Vivid!XS
- Abit KT7A-RAID mobo
- SB Live! 5.1
and i decided i wanted to overclock a bit, but then i looked at my CPU temp and it was running at 51 before id even started, so i overclocked anyway and the temp got to bout 58 overclocking it to 1.4ghz!
So i took my PC apart took off the heatsink and tried putting a different amount of thermal grease on my CPU. Did that and not a lot changed! So i then took it off again, put on a thermal pad, and put a small amount of grease on the core!
But......... i also put on an old 5000rpm K6-2 fan, atached to the side of the heatsink facing the wrong way, so it was sucking air off the heatsink
And now it runs a 1.5ghz, RUNNING AT 33. WOW

Just an idea for u lot

Has anyone else ever put 2 fans like that on the heatsink??

I absolutely Do Not Recommend anything you have done, despite your apparent lower temps.
Running two fans off the motherboard header is also discouraged.

Instructions for Arctic Silver

* If your heatsink has a thermal 'pad' mounted on it, this pad must be removed before using Arctic Silver thermal compound. Thermal pads are made with paraffin wax that melts once it gets hot. When it melts, it will fill in the microscopic valleys in the heatsink with wax. To minimize the permanent contamination of the mounting surface with wax, the thermal pad should be removed before it is used and melted. Never use heat or hot water to remove the pad, the heat will melt the wax into the heatsink.

* On the CPU, Arctic Silver thermal compound should only be applied to the top of the core.

* Only a very small amount of Arctic Silver is needed on modern CPU cores, about 1/2 the size of an uncooked grain of short-grain white rice or 1/4 of... Read more

Hi Eileen.......you did a good job of cleaning, not much to do here.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

[/b]Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

It's burning big time. It would do this before I installed 8 (I kept files and settings in the install if that makes any difference but I only re-installed 7 a few weeks ago)

All I am running right now is firefox with 1 tab and CPU has gone down to 83 but then back up again. The screenshot is from a few minutes ago when it was at it's hottest and I had 1 or 2 more tabs open and no other apps

A:My CPU is HOT. How to cool down???

Ooohhh that is HOT!

I can tell you right off the bat, you'll need to do cleaning of the heatsink of your laptop. Chances are, your laptop might have an access panel right on top of the heatsink, especially since it's an Acer. I would recommend YouTubing or Binging or googling any tutorials on how to remove the heatsink, or the extreme, how to disassemble the laptop.

You will need to buy some new thermal paste, like Arctic Silver 5.

A:Cool.exe

I have seen cool.exe on systems with vundo and/or purtity scan infections. Since dealing with it usually involves other malware, I suggest you read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". You may have performed some of these steps already. About half way down are instructions for downloading HijackThis and creating a log. When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Hi,

Just replaced my heatsink due to a high pitched noise from my computer then I saw a crack on the heatsink and thought it was that even though the noise has only been slightly reduced is my computer too hot, it hardly has anything in it. Maybe it is too cold where is the -2 coming from lol

mATX
1 HDD,
2GB Ram
No seperate graphics or audio card
Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz

Look at the image attached, what you think. Now I just need to find out where the noise is coming from, still think its the heatsink though

A:Cool Enough

System/CPU temps are fine. "I saw a crack on the heatsink" What heatsink? If it is the CPU's heatsink, I really doubt if it is cracked. The high picthed sound is probably coming from your hard drive. Is it an old Western Digital drive by chance?

It doesn't reconstruct anything. It just uses the same picture saved at different resolutions to give you an illusion of fast zooming and that sci-fi image detail reconstruction.

I have an AMD 3ghz cpu with a fx5800 video card, windows xp, so my system gets hot, real hot, infact to hot, then it reboots when playing graphics heavy games like doom or HL2 when there is loads of action onscreen.

I checked the temp of the cpu using sandra 2005 and it said cpu temp = 68degrees when I got back to the desktop.

I have a good heatsink and fan, with 4 fans in the case blowing like hell they are. The graphics card has its own fan.

I think its because the case in in a restricted confined area with not much ventilation thats the root cause.

So is there anything on the market to cool the pc down furthur?

I've been using Ad Aware, CW Shredder and Spy Bot for some time now, regularly get all critical updates from all and microsoft and run these programs at least several times a week. I was badly hijacked before and and somewhat fanatical about invasions. Anyway, today when I check I found 86 Cool Web Registry Values, Keys and Folders. I deleted through Ad Aware, ran CW Shredder, deleted some more then spy bot which found some more. Afterwards, I again ran Ad Aware which found still more. Normally all I get are cookies and Registry values, not keys or folders. What are they, and have the trolls over at Cool Web come up with something new?

hello everybody,i just found out that if you click and hold a shortcut in the taskbar you are able to move it ,if im a little slow forgive me or if it is already been posted please tell me but in any case i found this out this morning by accident

A:cool

Yes, you can drag and drop the items in the taskbar. You can also drag and drop items that are in your start menu to the taskbar as well as if you have turned the Quick Launch bar on (pointless, BTW) you can move items back and forth from that. Windows 7 is a step above what once was for Windows OS's.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been fighting with my computer. While my son was on the computer, he clicked some sort of link in his msn that immediately infected the computer with alot of spyware install things. (drsmartload, winantiviruspro, and others of the sort)I thought I'd rid myself of all of it, however I have one that just refuses to let go.cool.exe continues to plague me. It shows up as coolweb in my Dial up networks (which I am constantly removing), then shut it down in my task manager, then delete the cool.exe file in my system32 folder. Within about 15 minutes, it's all back as if I'd done nothing.I've run countless scans, AVG, Micro Trend PCCillin, CA antivirus, Spybot, Adaware 6.0, XoftSpy, ewido anti-spyware, CWshredder, Avenger, PCBug Dr., roguescanfix, WinPatrol.I've used AVG Free Edition for years, and was always happy with it. However with this latest infection, it wasn't having any effect. I uninstalled, and installed Micro Trends PCCillin, which turned out very bad. I was suddenly finding Toolbar888 and such entries that were not there before. I then uninstalled that, and installed CA Antivirus, which I have installed at this point. Please help me with this, I've run the gambit, and hope a reformat isn't my only recourse.Hijack This Log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 4:08:09 PM, on 10/20/2006Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32&#... Hey,

I know ive made a thread about this before, but im not in the mood to dig it up.

My CPU is officially hitting 65C when gaming. It never used to go over 60. Computer rebooted during warcraft (bios alert/reboot at 65) and when i heard a small beep i checked everest at it was at 61. I like to leave the computer on at night, and such.

Max price $40 for the HSF/Artic Silver. When i get that i will test my case fans.

Ive been told already the Volcano 11 and 12, but they may just be half a centimeter to big to fit.

Any other recommendations?

Hello,
I recently changed which case I use so that I can setup my computer a little easier when I get my SSD next week [March 2nd]. I noticed that my HDD's because there is no a lot of space between each one and I only have one case fan that is at the back. and the HDD bay is at the front of it leaving the HDD to heat up above the temps I like them at and slowly heating the rest of the system up to around 50 degrees celsius. I do not know the exact size of the port of the fan to the front I'd assume its a 80mm fan but I will try and get its dimensions. But the fan must be powered by molex or have a adapter included, etc. I would prefer a fan that has built in fan control like in the arctic cooling range. I don't need something like a high end corsair fan just a fan to cool 3 Hdd's and a SSD.
My budget is up to 15 which is $23. And I dont expect ill need all of that since its only a fan and not a high end one.
Thanks
:-D

A:Need a new fan to Cool HDD bay

What is the make and model of the case? You say it may be 80mm, but it might be 120mm. Most modern cases use 120mm fans as default. We need to know what case it is before anyone can give you opinions.
Also, you may be on a tight budget, but skimping on Fans and getting a generic one might not be a good idea. No, you do not really need a name brand one, but you should really look at the current air movement of your system and determine better ways of cooling the Whole computer. I always suggest to everyone (especially those that I build gaming computers for), that they get a bare minimum of 2 case fans. One that intakes air from the bottom front and another that exhausts top back. You may also what to look at replacing the rear fan to help better exhaust the heat from the computer. If your computer is getting to the 50C (and it is not doing something demanding - like running a game), you have too much heat building up and not enough being expelled.

A:Ghost, let me make sure before I make things worse.

i have a dedicated partition on my machine for drive image files, which are essentially just the same as norton ghost files.

everytime I make some major changes I give it a bit of time to see if everything is fine, then I update the images. I usually keep the image before that as well, so that if something emerges later I can go back to that.

I've seen a single update from windowsupdate.microsoft.com make my machine unbootable; i've seen a single updated driver trash the whole installation.

what you are doing is wise.

Hi.
I have two hdds (500gb 7200rpm) in my laptop and have 260gb of data on the second one. I wanted to create a partition for games at the beggining of the 2nd drive (the left side) as i heard it increased performance to put games in anoher drive and at the beggining of the drive.

My question is:
Will it make difference to make a partition at the beginning or at the end of this drive when it comes to gaming performance?
Will option three help me with this?

My cousin showed me one game in the same drive installed in the 1st of four partitions of a 500gb 7200rpm (the same i have) performing with 3-5 fps more than that game installed in the 4th partition of that same drive....

Any thoughts?

I dont know... any thoughts?, or maybe just a bug in the version installed in the 4th partition?

A:Will it make difference to make partition at beginning or end of HDD?

The only appreciable speed difference with OS drives is to upgrade to an SSD large enough to install OS and programs on, link to data on secondary HD via libraries.

Then I want to change the install routine to make that ISO a universal install ISO.
Then I want to make a USB drive that is bootable and has the universal Win 7 install on it.

I have browsed through some of the tutorials and find some info but what I can't seem to find is how do I make a ISO file on my hard drive from my Win 7 DVD.

Hello Please be patient I know enough about computers but not the terms or anything. I had vista at first then got a virus long story short my uncle removed everything then put XP back on. I dont really understand why its important for a drive to be a certain letter my hard drive H the removeanle disk is C Im working from home and was told I need my internet explorer and certain things on my C drive. First off what is the difference and is this possible Ive been up for hours looking but I am not sure and cant get a hold of my uncle. Please let me know what needs to be done. Thank you all in advance.

A:How to make my to make my C which says removeable disk to my H drive?

It's easy to change the removable drive's drive letter name.

Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Managment

Right-click the removable drive's graph and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and change the letter.

Do not change the drive letter of your boot drive. If you do, none of your programs will work, your computer may not even boot, and you'll be reinstalling XP all over again.

The time to deal with the boot drive not being C: was before/during the installation. Now it's too late, unless you want to reinstall. It's inconvenient and annoying, but almost everything will work just fine. I've read about some programs not working, but have never seen it first-hand. It's possible it never happens, and the people that are saying this are just repeating some kind of "urban myth".

If you HAVE to change the boot drive, you'll need to reinstall XP.

my hp 6500 officejet is sending out real small type [letters]and numbers. My glasses are strong enough to read what my printer is putting out help needed as usuall thanks for anything. bob s i have the page site type ;increased to 150% but its not printing that size type

A:Can anyone tell me how to make too make printer letters bigger

If you are trying to print out something like webpage content, you can change the font size in Print Preview by changing to 150% or whatever and then select the number of pages to view.

Experiment with the sizes up from Shrink to fit then change the number of pages you want to view it in and you will see what the text output will look like in the varying number of pages and then you can select how many pages for what will suit your eyes.

If you leave the number of pages at 1 then it will probably revert to Shrink to fit and so print out in the smaller font size.

Once you are happy with how you think it will print, then click on the printer icon in the top left of the menu bar.

If you are printing a doc from a word processing program, then set the font size and type prior to creating the document within the program, otherwise you will need to highlight all of the text first before you can change to how you want it, and changing those settings after you've created the doc may not stick.

Hi,
We have guests laptops at school for everyone but they keep making changes on the computer.
How can i make Windows to ask for admin password when trying to make changes in the computer and when trying to run the installer?
Google does not give me right results.

A:Make Windows ask for admin password when trying to make changes

I don't think you can stop users from making all changes. However if the account that they are using is a standard user account then it will ask for a administrator password when ever the UAC prompt comes up for system changes and installs.

Maybe you could take a drive image of the computer when it is in the state that you want it, then restore it when needed

Hi. I just went out and bought a new laptop, Toshiba with a Centrino Duo. It is a system that only accesses the internet on my home wireless, dsl 1500 speed. However, this computer is browsing entirely too slow and I just checked the speed on a bittorrent client and it is barely functioning. I have 3 other systems (laptops) that I use here as well and they are all running and processing at optimal speed. Note, none are running at the same time so that is not an issue. I think there are some registry problems, or something I can't figure it out. Any help is much apprediated.

Cool.exe has been on my system for about a week or so, and I have run numerous scans, but have not been able to get rid of it. Ewido detected (and deleted) it, but after a short while, a small message box opens up and disappears in a flash, and that's when the process cool.exe starts running again.

Another problem is that the Temp folder in the WINNT folder keeps generating win??.tmp.exe files (even after all of them are deleted) that are trying to access the internet. Where do they come from?

This is my hijackthis log, after deleting cool.exe with ewido and just after it started itself again, and also after deleting all those .tmp.exe files.

on occasion, when using my laptop, it will randomly shut off while its in use. i have heard this could be cuz of an overheating cpu, and i have noticed sometimes when it randomly shuts down that the bottom of the laptop is warm. whats the best way to allow this heat on the bottom to escape. do i need to just turn off the laptop after every few hours of use, turn it over so the bottom part's heat can be released and it can cool off? thats the only thing i can think of, short of blowing air conditioning on it (haha) or putting a frozen towel under the laptop-altho thats prob. a bad idea to do anyways. and a computer fan wont work to well on a laptop in this case anyway. any ideas? thx

A:best way to cool down a laptop?

Not trying to sound sarcastic here...the best thing to check would be the amount of dust that may have gotten into fans, etc inside.
Laptops can be difficult to work with so I advise getting some help- if you already have the experience and can work with precision, ignore the warning... a fan might be going bad, video working too hard, power supply going; RAM damaged; all causes of problems. Laptops do feel quite warm when running especially when online...not sure if faster fans are able to be installed, but that seems logically one option you may have. For difficult heat problems, there are even softwares that claim to lower temps- one is called Rain, available at many freeware/shareware sites....give ZDNET site a look, or NONAGS.

Question, does having cool and quiet enabled pose a performance hit in any way to your system besides the obvious throttling when idle. Does it put more of a strain on you processor physically to have the frequency changing so often?

A:Cool and Quiet

No, don't worry. In fact, throttling may be beneficial for your processor. Having the chip work at lower frequencies/voltages may expand its lifespan.

I don't know about the fans though, constantly speeding up and down could strain mechanical parts...But I wouldn't worry about that either, these things are cheap and easy to replace nowadays!

Well I feel like a *****

Recently went to a LAN party, and arrived to discover why host said bring a coat. Turns out we were gaming in his non-heated cement basement...in January. Where I live we don't get snow often but we hit a hearty 30 degrees f.

Getting to my point, I've always been so busy moving cables, getting new fans, applying proper thermal paste, that I never even considered the ambient temperature in the room. Well my core temps got cut in half and my friend running an Opteron 165 got down to a core temp of 14c while my x2 3800+ was at a healthy 20

so if anyone wants to overclock their computers, take your machine outside, in a basement, or a garage, and overclock that sucker till it bleeds!

PS-I always have my window open now to run my PC cooler

A:The real way to OC/run cool

Ok, I see two fundamental problems with that.

First off, I don't know very many geeks who like using their computers under hypothermic conditions. Or maybe it's just because I'm from the south

Second, that method works all well and good until summer rolls around. Then you can use the air conditioning to cool the house down to 30 degrees F and use your new OC'd machine to run an email spamming business so you can pay your electric bill.

On a little more serious note though, interestingly enough, I did see an article (don't remember where) talking about how a lot of companies with massive data centers (google, etc.) are now considering building new data centers in Canada and Alaska for that very reason.

Ice cold? funny. Anyway I have a question that may have already been answered here, but I'm too busy tweaking to search.
I'm forced to go liquid cooled giddy:
I swapped out my gfx5500 for a new ati x1600pro (the 512mb one) and this thing is WAY too loud. I think if my case had wings (and wireless hook-ups) it would fly....seriously, this thing is ridiculous. So my question is, what kinda liquids (or low pressure gases for that matter) could I put in a water cooling setup that would get colder than water? something safe for pumps, and non-corrosive to radiators. It's ok if I have to build some things, I like tinkering. any input would be great.
By the way, I got my 2.8 prescott to hit 4.2 ......on air. It crashed shortly after, but thanks to asus, I'm ok.

A:What's cooler than cool?

You really can't cool the water/fluid below ambient room temp without running into problems with condensation. I have seen it done in the past where P4's have been cooled with liquid nitrogen, but it was very expensive.

You can get a different fan for your card, and it would be much easire/cheaper that water cooling.

A friend of mine used my pc and now CWS is on my system. I bought Spy Sweeper and found two installed cws programs on my system. I removed them with spy sweeper but instantaneously showed back up. So i treid it in safe mode, found the same two "things" on my system but could not get rid of them. Very hard to surf the web. So I read the Mozilla's Firefox was a good browser for this kinda stuff. Well I installed it and it works great. My question to you is how do I get it off my system? Does this attach itself to files. Do I have to format my harddrive?

A:un-Cool Web Search

Hi, No, a format should not be needed, but it can be frustrating trying to remove some about:blank hijacks, if that is what you have...let's find out:

There are directions here to do it: There are .zip form and .exe form, take your pick.

Download it here:

http://radiosplace.com/

Or here.
It's a direct download so be ready with the folder for it.

Basically, create a new folder, the desktop is OK (provided you MAKE a folder on your desktop), name it something like HJT, and download TO that folder, run hijackthis.exe from there. If there are users of the computer who might start HJT and use it, hide the program in a folder elsewhere!

When it is done scanning> the Save log button will become available, save the log as hijackthis.txt which will open with Notepad. Go back to TSG, open your post, and copy and paste the entire logfile into a reply in your thread (here) and wait for advice.

Please do NOT use HJT yourself to remove anything, most of what it shows is good and needed by the system
EDIT: I have asked someone to stop in and help with your problem so expect a reply soon.

Hi,
Before I built a new computer, I read several posts about problems with bring old hdd (with OS already installed) to a new system.....I remember reading that it wouldnt work well as it would not recognize new drivers/etc.....and this was true.....I was about to reformat my HDD when I had an idea...after booting up from the XP CD, I chose "repair" for the XP that was already installed (from old computer)....This deleted my old conflicting drivers, and after I restarted, XP claimed to be installing xp..the weird thing was..when this was done, the system booted up and :-D....all my old data etc was there....so this is a possible work around for anyone whose interested (one slight problem is that all prior windows updates, including SP1, are erased so you must reinstal them

A:cool discovery
