I am running Windows XP SP 2. When my computer boots up in normal mode, usually right after I log in (sometimes after a minute or so), it gives the Generic Host Process problem and reboots. It lists a problem with my lsass.exe file. It works fine in safe mode. I have Trend Micro PC Cillin updated every day. Sorry for the lack of really specific information, this just happened a half hour before I had to go to work. I'll post more info once I get back to my comp. Thanks a bunch for your time and help.

I thought I'd removed it, I removed the keys from the registry, found and manually deleted the file itself (thought they were clever, naming it "update.exe", didn't fool me for a second considering the folder it was in). But now, I keep getting a generic host process error with svchost and ntdll.I seen what you told someone else who had a similar problem to do, so I went ahead and generated the proper files needed. I made a couple of slight changes to them for privacy reasons, but nothing that'll change what's there or not regarding any possible infection I may have. I'm stumped, please help? I'm sure you can do it. Attached are the following:three text files, the logs/reports generated by OTL and RKUnhooker, and one PNG file, a cropped screenshot of the error itself.actually, I might need to edit this post, or reply to it, since I can't find the attach file option.edit: there is no attach file option as far as I can tell. Screw it, here's a link to a ZIP that contains the files: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=18EGGUJBedit 2: it's generated using winRAR, but I told it to make a ZIP (so you can use winzip, or just plain windows explorer if you have XP and up). 512, Svc pack 1.(I won't put SP2 on till I hear better
news), Norton 2004 AV,AVG,& lastly Zone Alarm(free version).

In the last few days a message has been showing up that
states "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience". So am I.
There is an option to send a report to MS, which we have
done. When the error occurs we get disconnected from
the net and have to reboot to reconnect.
Since this machine is about two months old I can't imagine
why this is occurring.
I will post a HJT log if you ask.

It doesn't crash but although I'm still connecrted to the Intternet, I can't use it; A pop-up appears sayimg something like "Can't use phonebook" In fact nothing works, whichever Icon I hit. It's as if the link doesn't exist, and the only remedy is to reboot. I must have rebooted at lesr 25 - 30 times today alone! This message started about two weeks ago, but then it only appeared maybe once only, occaionally twice.

I was using AVG antivirrus, but a few days ao I bought BitDefender Internet security. This too found no viruses or malware - I update daily. Platform is XP home.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and to please suggest a remedy ?

Whenever I use IE or Firefox, an error box pop up saying 'generic host process is shutting down'. After that, a 60 seconds box pop up telling me that it is shutting down the computer.

This all start after I got (at least) two viruses on the computer. One was AntiVirus 2008 and the other was a virus that would cause me to goto 'asiuoqgusdbaked.com' when I search for things on the internet. I tried to remove them with McAfee antivirus, Malwarebytes and Smitfraudfix. The Antivirus 2008 is gone, I believe; but the 'asiuopgusdbaked.com' one is still.

What do I need to do?

Hello:

I had a couple of viruses (did not write them down) did a system restore to the earliest restore point, now my computer will only boot in safe mode with no networking.

After it boots in Safe Mode I get a Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I reboot and go right back through the same process. Just stuck in a loop until someone can walk me through fixing the problem.

Thanks for your help!

A:Generic Host Process Win32 Problem

After you get the Generic Host error, does Windows force a reboot, or can you still continue working in safe mode?

hello guys, i'm new in this forum and i hope i can find the help i need :).
I just installed the SP3 and i have a problem with my audio drivers:
when i start up the pc everything's ok, but after several minutes i have this message : "generic host error 32, etc etc" and my audio doesnt work anymore. I have the last realtek drivers and i have installed too the HDMI driver of my VGA (ATI 4850). The funny thing is after that i cant open WMP, VLC etcetc because they dont find the audio device, but the audio in a game, for example, works good.

Do u know how to solve this issue?

Thanks everybody guys, cya!!

A:Generic host error 32 -audio problem-

Hi aenor and welcome to TSF
Try uninstalling you audio drivers though Device Manager in the System Settings in the control panel.
Restart your PC and install the drivers from fresh. Maybe there was a corrupt file that wasnt replaced by the update.

A friend has a Compaq laptop with XP Home Edition OS. He purchased this computer NEW approx. 1 yr. ago but due to extenuating circumstances has never really used it since. In attempting to get it going again, this AM, we encountered this error message which pops up after it first boots up and has been running for a short period of no longer than 3 to 5 minutes. The error message reads:

Generic Host Process for Windows 32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about the problem: Yes or No. Then it goes on to provide a detailed Error Report which I failed to record.

My suspicion is that during the interim of non-usage he has failed to download and install any of the "fixes", which MS floods us with almost constantly, and that he will be unable to access the Internet again until they are all brought up to date. Is this the problem or could it possibly be a problem with his ISP, which is Earthlink (dial-up modem connection)?

When I go on the internet for an hour, or two, I get an error that says "Generic Host Win32 process has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and then my whole internet seizes up, and I can't disconnect, or go to a website, its just like I am offline, and then I restart and it works again for the same hour or two.

Someone said on different forums that Microsoft made a fix for that, and that I could download it and gave me the link. I downloaded it and it didn't fix a thing.

I am running Windows XP, Home Edition, SP1. Please help ASAP.

Hi

I have been receiving an error report box that says that there was a problem with the generic host process for win32.

I have received this message about 4 times in the past two days, i usually
receive it after turning the computer on.

I proceed with an error report, but unfortunately it doesn't relay back
much information about the cause of the problem.

I took a few screenshots of the error messages, and of what information
was provided in the messages, for which i combined into a jpeg file to
post here in the hope that someone here will look at it,and then could possibly help me to understand what the problem may have been.

If anyone here can help me with this matter, i would be most thankfull.

A:Generic host process for win32 problem

Hiya

Are you still getting this problem? If so, I see from the picture on the right that there are some files in the temp folder. I'm not sure what svchost.exe.mdmp is, but svchost.exe is located in the system32 folder.

So, do this. Open Windows Explorer and then locate this folder:

c:\Documents and settings\Local Settings\Temp

Now, delete all the files that are there. You don't need anything running from the Temp folder. Reboot and see if that stops the error message.

Just out of curioisty, what doe the file appcompat.txt contain? Virus scan this before you open it, just to be safe.

Whenever that error message pops up, it is usually during a game or during running a program like Adobe After Effects, then my sound driver fails and and the OS cannot detect the sound driver meaning all of the sound is gone and I have to restart my computer. and it also lags up my computer.
I run Xp Home SP1.

Hi, I'm actually having a few problems with my computer that I think might be related since they all began around the same time. Any advice would be appreciated greatly. I'm going to provide a description of each of the problems followed by a copy of my log from HijackThis.1. At least a few times a day, new tabs will open up in Firefox that redirect me to an advertisement (e.g. hxxp://cuic.com/search.phphxxp://www.bighealthtree.com/video/s-23hxxp://lpgen.info/mylpgen/regerrors1/64x1299764_r1?c=camp3]hxxp://tutoringonlineservices.com/and hxxp://www.shopica.com/search.php?q=Design+Web&txn=3152-C1D4B7B8 )Some of these even change the size of the Firefox window. Also, while searching with Google on Firefox, links will either be dead (404 error) or redirect me to an entirely irrelevant page. I have only seen this happen twice, but immediately after I searched the exact same phrase on Google Chrome, clicked the same links, and it worked fine.2. This next problem was a lot worse the other day, but after running a few anti-virus programs in Safe Mode, its frequency decreased but hasn't disappeared completely. The other day I couldn't even turn on my computer for 10 minutes without this happening but now it will go a few hours until the problem occurs. Anyway, the problem occurs when I get an error message that says: "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."3. Hello there, I'm a newcomer but I'm having trouble with some error on my Windows XP SP3. The error is called Win32 Generic Host Process error which pops up 10 minutes or so after booting up my computer and leaves my music and videos on the internet soundless. I did a scan with AVG which said that it removed all the spyware and corrupted files on my computer but the error continued, I re-scanned yet it said my computer was clean and I can't find a solution. I also did a Hijackthis Log so if somebody could help I'd be deeply greatful.

A little while after turning my computer on, I get a message saying Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has comitted an error. Then everything changes to Classic Windows Theme for a second and afterwards my DirectSound stops working. Norton Antivirus and Spybot get nothing, and I've included a Hijack This! log. My firewall is in learning mode. An alert box has displayed with "Somebody is trying to send data to Generic Host Process for Win32 Services on UDP port 1029 from 82-39-129-199.cable.ubr05.newy.blueyonder.co.uk. Do you wish to allow it?" C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\svchost.exe

Because I had no idea what this meant, I performed multiple searches until I tracked down what Blueyonder is--a United Kingdom-based cable/digital television, broadband ISP service. Why is a UK-based Digital TV, Broadband ISP Sending Data to My USA-based PC? A few months ago I also discovered that my firewall had logged receiving packets from the UK-based equivalent of the USA Home Security Department. I blocked this activity via my firewall. Any idea what is happening to my computer?

HP Pavilion 551w with Kon-x dialup service (broadband/DSL not available in our rural area)

I have noticed that this problem has only occurred over the last few days, when I boot my computer, it tells me generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. It gives me the standard "send error message to windows" thing and i click "send". Then after that box closes an error comes up telling that svchost.exe has caused an error. I've checked out the forums to find out if anyone else had Has this problem. One post suggested (http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/664709-yet-another-generic-host-process.html : "Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr.msc in the Open box, and then press Enter. Click the Application category. Look For Recent Errors " I did exactly that, but I don't know how to read/understand what the error message relates to. Please can anyone offer some assistance/advice?
Cheers all helpers.

generic host process for win32 has encountered a problem

It looks like this virus is more than I can do on my own to remove.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware does not detect it, however I get the pop up window and can not open applications.

I must shut down and restart, then it fails load Windows and I have to shut off.

Then she works only to have this start all over again at any random time period.

I have recently done a restore with destruction and have updated all my applications except Adobe Acrobat.

Unfortunately I have viewed some documents online using this application.

My investigations reveals it may come from Adobe virus.

Funny how this is related to XP SP2 service pack when I have SP3.

I have been looking for work for two years and need my PC to be operational.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

A:generic host process for win32 has encountered a problem

I ran Malwarebytes 1.46 again. Then updated twice to 5073

Then ran TDSSKILLER. It found no infections.

Ran Combofix the system seems to be working.

Combo fix got rid of the 3 registry files I didn't like.

One was from Uniblue registry cleaner, no link
Two was from a PC driver update, no link
Three was some weird registry with no link

Funny thing that Uniblue was still on my PC after a destruction and restore from last month.
I discovered this when I was looking for a reason to stop my PC from being scanned and using 80% of my CPU.
That's How I ended up installing CC Cleaner and PC Driver update.
Final solution was to delete the index files in Fast Find (from Microsoft Office 97).
Then disable fast find.

After she was disable the CPU usage and scan stopped.

Then I started to get these infections as mentioned in the above post, including Walmart.

Now I have created a restore point.

Will go online to install Adobe Reader X, then create another restore point.

If PC is good for a few days I will create a final restore point.

Finally after 45 days after destruction and reformat I may have a good PC.

I was dumb and never backed up my data for two years. Still hurting from that.
I will post in 24 hours as to whether she is cleaned or still infected.

A:"Generic host process for win32 services" problem

Generic host processes for win 32 are, well . . . generic. It services several processes necessary to connect to the internet, and if you block it, you won't be doing much. DNS lookups and http are some of those services.

Hello all,

The machine in question is a Dell Inspiron 530, running XP Pro, hardware warranty still valid.
Upon a fresh re-start, all multi-media and system sounds work.
After the the desktop has been up for a few minutes, a window pops up letting me know that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered an error and needs to close." At this point, multimedia sound ceases to work, although system sounds still are heard through the speaker system.
I have been through hardware support with Dell twice on this issue, the hardware is all good.
Dell support says it is a software issue, and not covered by warranty.
Hopefully something will show up in the attached logs to point me at the problem.
Thanks.

A:Generic Host process for Win32 has encountered a problem

[stumpedinhere's son-in-law] Problem resolved. 3 separate issues:

1) TDL4 rootkit was present. Only found by HJT or GMER. Removed using TDSSKiller.
Symptoms: Both Firefox and IE hijacked; would reroute to other sites when links in web pages clicked on. Could be temporarily worked around by manually copy/pasting URLs into the address bar instead of clicking on them.

2) An Artemis trojan had insinuated itself into the winsock stack. Showed up in a HijackThis log. Filename lsp2b.dll. Have observed the pattern lspXY.dll (where X is a number and Y is a letter) in others' logs. Used LSPFix to pull it out of the stack. After reboot, only then did McAfee detect this file as a Trojan and remove it.
Symptoms: IE would open but would hang forever in "Connecting..." state for any URL. Windows Update blocked. Windows could never completely shut down itself without hanging and requiring manual poweroff. Corrupted IP addresses in output of ping command. IE7 or IE8 installers would hang when they tried to retrieve updates.

3) Malware DLL being executed by Winlogon. Only showed up in HJT. Filename lz64sqz.dll. Fixed through HJT and also removed file.
Symptoms: winlogon.exe application error. Windows would stay up OK as long as OK/Cancel not clicked on the crash dialog. Once either OK/Cancel clicked, BSOD occurred (STOP C000021a Windows Logon Process C0000005).

Hi,

I have a windows XP machine and I get this error "Generic Host process for Win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close we are sorry for the inconvenience" at least 2 to 3 times a day. The computer runs normally without any problems even after the error. I send this error message to Microsoft and no reply from them. The noticeable changes that I see after the error occurs, is that, the screens taskbar color changes to light brownish and then after a couple of minutes, it returns back to normal blue color. Just before this error, I have noticed that there is a flurry of activity in my computer, in terms of floppy disk drive lighting up and showing that its reading a disk. The HDD is reading for a couple of minutes and I know that I can expect this message very soon. I noticed later, that my windows firewall is deactivated and any attempts to activate it, is futile as it says an error 5 - "you do not have permission". I have been reading forums regarding this error and some have said to change the windows time server and deactivate the windows update, all with no luck. I have noticed before this problem started to occur, my computer doesn't respond if left idle and on further investigation I noticed, in my task manager, my processor is running at 100%. I found the process to be "svchost.exe" and there are multiple of them. I was so frustrated that I stopped the process. I did this a couple of times. I also checked with Proce... Read more

Over the past couple of weeks, my son's laptop (running WinXP Home Ed.) has been running like a slug and when he attempts to open IE6, Outlook Express (and other applications), the following error message appears:

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"

He's been keeping his AV up-to-date, so I don't think his system is infected, but something sure is wrong!

How should I go about diagnosing/fixing this problem?

I've been experiencing this error for a few days and It will not go away, normalyl it appears 5 minutes after connecting to the internet and will thereafter cause the computer to freeze and I have to restart it. Ive tried many spyware removal programs and even the windows automatic updates fix someone said worked (on the forums somewhere).

It refers to "svchost.exe" generating errors.

hello everyone,
im new to the site thanks to google and trying to find info on this problem im having.

when i boot up my computer, after about 5-10 min i get a error message that says
"generic host process for win32 has encountered a problem and needs to close"

i downloaded malwarebytes and ran that and it found a slew of 'threats'
i removed them and i am still having issues.

i noticed too that when browsing the internet, i get redirected(new tab) to a 'registry defender' site that says my pc might be at risk.
i have registry booster 2010 on my computer and when i ran that it found a bunch 250+ registry errors.

i have spy bot s&d on my pc too and that really doesnt find anything either.
i also have ad-aware se on my pc.

i noticed that a bunch of people have the same problem i have but each problem is on an individual level.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:generic host error win32 has encountered a problem

Hello,Regarding Registry Booster:Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry. Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries require... Read more

Startup problem: When I start up my desktop computer, it will usually just load up to the point of my desktop background, no icons or start bar will appear and it will just sit at the desktop background. I then I have to do a hard restart and try booting up again. Once in a while it will load up like normal, with the icons and start bar appearing, but this is very rare (about 1 out of 10 boots on average.) Also I can't seem to enter Safe Mode when I boot up.

Internet Problem: When I start up my internet (through my mobile broadband USB stick) it will only work for a few minutes and then the internet will lose connectivity and I will get a problem saying

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Has Encountered A Problem"

after this I can no longer connect to the internet. I have to restart the computer again if I want to connect to the internet, and I have to endure the startup problem (as described above.)

I have tried downloading a fix from Microsoft (KB894391) but it doesn't work. Hope someone can help me fix these problems. These problems seemed to happen after I updated to Service Pack 2 and also tried to update my graphics card drivers.

My sister called earlier in a panic cause her laptop was showing "error loading operating system". She said she received a "Win32 Generic Host error" while online so she closed out tht error, ran Microsoft Security Essentials which found a problem and prompted her for a reboot and after she rebooted, the error loading operating system appeared.

She brought me her laptop and I popped in the XP Pro installation CD and tried to run a recovery but it never asked for the installation I wanted to repair which I thought was odd. Instead, it brought up the c prompt. I tried checking the contents of the c drive (using DIR) and it returned "An error occured during directory enumeration".

So, I removed her hard drive and slaved it in a desktop using a USB/SATA adapter. When I tried to browse the drive, it said the drive wasn't formatted.

Has anyone seen this before? It's hard to believe that a virus scan and reboot would wipe out a drive. I've seen a system file get quaranted off and cause an invalid system file error when rebooting but never anything like this.

A:Wiped out hard drive after Win32 Generic Host Problem

I think your premises...are awry.

Error loading operating system...can mean various things. It's an indication that something is wrong with the partition, the drive, the boot structure, or the boot option settings (generally speaking).

When a hard drive which has been formatted...is seen as a drive which is not formatted...that's usually an indication that the file system (NTFS) has a problem. The problem could be caused by the structure of the hard drive or the file system could be damaged or other key system files could be damaged...the result is that the partition can no longer be recognized by the system. Hence, a user may receive messages indicating that the hard drive needs to be formatted and has no recognized partition.

All of this has nothing to do with a virus scan...it happens routinely enough that it's well documented, if not understood.

You can try data-recovery software to see if it is able to see files on the drive. If so, I suggest moving any value files...before attempting any trouble-shooting on the drive.

So I have an Asus g1S-a1 laptop and I removed Vista from it to put XP on it. Everything was working flawlessly until I think I got a virus. I started getting a popup saying the Generic Host Process for Win32 Has Encountered A Problem. It would then start to shutdown the computer and it was really annoying. I looked up the problem and I didn't find any solutions that worked. So I disabled the automatic shutdown. However, I still need to restart anyways because my computer ends up being basically useless after the Generic Host Process fails. That was bareable for a month or two, and during that time I figured out when it would show the message. It would show that the Generic Host Process failed whenever I removed some type of hardware from the computer. Whether it be an ethernet cord, a mouse, or a printer. That would cause me to restart. That was kind of bareable, but then something really annoying came up recently this week. Websites started to load slower and my download speeds were ridiculously slow. For instance, if I tried to watch a show on NBC.com, it's not even watchable because it's so slow. I'm talking about legal downloads. Even from download.com. Now THIS has become unbearable and I need to have it removed. It seems as if the maximum download speed is 6-7kb/sec and I'm on a very fast university network. Some sites work fine but most just are Awfully slow. I haven't gotten a virus in years and I have a feeling it must've been from somebody using m... Read more

Oh another addition to the problem:

Whenever I start my computer NOD32's AMON recognizes this:

Threat:
Win32/TrojanDownloader.Agent.OLR trojan
Comment:
Event occurred on a file modified by the application: C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe. The file was moved to quarantine. You may close this window.

A window also pops up saying:

That probably helps alot...

A:Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem?

Hello mohitgoyal

I`m afraid no one on this forum is authorised to help with malware removal.
If you want to follow that line of attack you will have to post in the HijackThis Log Help forum.

Try this first and see if it stops the error
Is "Automatic Updates" running on the machine? If it is turn it off.
Then go to Windows Updates and check manually if there are any outstanding Updates. It could be that Automatic Updates had some sort of problem

If you want to follow the malware road
Please read this article; "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum
Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.
(Please change the new Thread Subscription to ?Instant Email Notification? so that you receive an email as soon as a reply is posted,)

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.... Read more

Whenever i start up my computer an error message window pops up saying:

svchost.exe-application error the instruction at "0x7c918fea" referenced memory at "0x00000010." The memory could not be "written." Click OK to terminate the program, Click Cancel to debug the program

so i followed these instructions

For the error at the login screen ( SVCHOST.EXE - Application Error the Instruction at 0x7c918fea referenced memory @ 0x00000010. The memery could not be written ) The solution is as follows:

1- Go to Control Panel 2- Administrative Tools 3- Services

4- go to the following Service : ( Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework ) Right Click then choose Properties ----> in the start up type choose Disabled.

Then reboot the system.

This should do the trick and stop the error from appearing at the login screen. I guess that Windows MediaPlayer 11 is the one responsible for this error.

but after rebooting my computer a window popped up that said:

I get the message about on my computer 3 or 4 times a day, where it forces me to restart.

Im not sure if its a virus per se, but i do get linked to various sites when im trying to get on regular ones in my bookmarks.

Ive google'd it and tried all the fixes.

Downloading the microsoft patch, doesnt work cause i have SP3 on my computer and it says the patch is for SP2.

Did a 'regedit' fix that was recommended. Thought it worked cause i didnt have to restart today, until a few mins ago it suddenly happened again.

Short of formatting my HD, im all out of ideas.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

I have been dealing with HijackThis Log for about six days now. We fixed a problem with a Trojan and they have tried everything they could to help me with the following windows popup:

wuauclt.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienence. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
Send or Don't Send

This comes up after booting 4-5 times and then periodically while using IE. It really bogs the machine down for a couple minutes. I can hit send information or don't send and it will reappear.

They have recommended that I post in here for help now and the link to what we have done is below.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...kthis-log.html

I have also started to ge the following popup.

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services

Generic Host process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvienence.

Thank you for any help

Hi guys,

Am being driven to the brink of insanity by this problem that started today. As soon as I boot up windows, I am greeted with the friendly message:

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." This then gives me the option to send the error report to Microsoft or not.

If I click "don't send" (or even if I do report the problem) the box disappears for a few seconds and then reappears again, no matter how many times I press it.

I can just ignore the screen and move it down into the corner of the screen. My computer/internet connection seems to progress just fine. However, about every 5 minutes a new screen bearing the same message pops up again until I have about 50 message boxes squirreled away out of sight in the corner (And my ALT-Tab menu is impossible to manage).

I've scanned my system for spyware using AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and it did find quite a few nasties floating about. However, according to AVG, those should have been fixed. However, the problem just keeps on coming.

Anyone who could give me any help of any kind whatsoever will earn my eternal gratitude. I will include the logs from the spyware removal and also the hijack this log from the scan I run.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

I should add that the spyware report says (no action taken) because that was the log immediately after the scan.....before I got it to clear them up.

Thanks again,

-Edit-

I should also mention that I downloaded 2 patches from microsoft designed to fix this problem.

Obviously they didn't work (Microsoft product after all.....)

Hi

HP 6730S laptop. Windows XP with SP3. Hard drive crashed 6 months ago. Was ghosted over and running fine since then. Last month I started getting the message "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close". It happens about 10 minutes into using the computer. When it happens I lose all sound and brightness controls. If I close the lid to the laptop I have to restart in able to use the internet. The display goes into a "retro" theme with white toolbars. I've scanned with Malwarebytes and Avast with no luck. Automatic updates is disabled. Here is my HiJack This Log. Any help would be awesome

szAppName: svchost.exe
szAppVer: 5.1.2600.5512
szModName: unknown
szModVer: 0.0.0.0
offset: 00000001
Computer has slightly random internet conectivity problems - after rebooting and declining to send error report, seems to work for a while. When connected via broadband dongle seems to work OK.

On reboot, following windows jingle and 'Welcome' screen I get a blue screen for in excess of 1 minute before getting the above message.

Don't seem to be able to get sound when playing internet videos even when connection is good.

Tabs are missing from Internet Explorer.

I've just replaced a broken hard drive and installed most of the software already previously on it

The problem now is that every time it boots the error message 'Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close' is displayed. I can close it but it's there at next reboot

I'm not sure if this is same problem but it's putting a black line across the menu bar of IE8 after a few seconds of being opened. I suppose it could be a virus but I've run AVG (free), CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but nothing was found

The error signiture is szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.5512
szModName : oleaut32.dll szModVer : 5.1.2600.5512 offset : 00007dfa

and the error report contents are C:\DOCUME~1\SIMON&~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb4bc.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\SIMON&~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb4bc.dir00\appcompat.txt

I'd really appreciate some help in removing this please

I have 2 problems that are a double whammy!
For a number of weeks I have had no access to the internet due to problems with my ISP
Now having got back on line for a short period, I get the following message shortly after booting up:

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and has to close.

If before this happens, I try to open any programs I get a flashlight symbol and the screen freezes up eventually and the only way out is to switch off - if my computer doesn't already do it for me!

The Error signature is as follows:

szAppName:svchost.exe szAppVer:5.1.2600.5512 szModName: ntdll
szModver:5.1.2600.5512 offset: 00010547

This is the other data
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~Temp\WERe629.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~Temp\WERe629.dir00\appcompat.txt

Also I sometimes get the following pop-up

Windows cannot find http//Watson.microsoft.com/dw/dcp.asp?CLCID=1033&EXENAME=generic&BRAND=WINDOWS?. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search.

I am unable to download an on-line fix as I can't get the internet connection - my ADSL light is solid but the LAN has limited connectivity

Can anyone help??

Greetings,

Firstly, thanks for your assistance.

I have been getting the dreaded "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close" for the past few days. THe machine will boot up and connect to the Internet, but some time after opening a browser window I'll get the error message. This will be followed by my taskbar changing from XP to classic, and at that point the system eventually freezes. When that happens I cannot shut down gracefully and need to remove the battery from the laptop.

I have tried to eliminate using Norton AV (also have the firewall), Spybot and Malwarebytes. I've also tried following all of the suggestions at support.microsoft.com/kb/821690. Virus scan and and Spybot found nothing. Malawarebytes found a few things that I thought might solve the problem after they were cleaned up, but the problem appeared again shortly after. I fear I may have a nasty rootkit, but I was hoping to verify before reformatting and reinstalling the OS.

XP Professional
SP 3

From some of the other posts, I've noticed that the usual first step for this type of issue is an OTL scan. Results are below.

Thanks,
Dave

Hello,I have a most annoying problem.I keep getting this error:"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"Inside i see something similar to:szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.5512 szModName : ntdll.dllszModVer : 5.1.2600.5512 offset : 0001b1faBut the DLL file seems to vary with every new windows session, sometimes:szModName : esent.dll szModVer : 5.1.2600.5512 offset : 0001baf4 or:szModName : msvcrt.dll: szModVer : 7.0.2600.5512 offset : 000367ef Searching Google for a fix, i read about 30 different posts, including posts in this forum.Following all advices, i ran:Eset NOD32 (My licenced anti-virus software), Microsoft on-line Live OneCare, Windows Defender, AD-Aware, SpyBot S&D, Malwarebyte anti-spyware, Super anti-spyware and Windows Worm Doors Cleaner.I removed every suspicious file found on my computer and fixed all kind of problems, but that annoying error just keeps re-appearing!I'm running XP PRO MCE SP3 with all recent updates from Microsoft.I have windows firewall enabled.I couldn't relate a certain running program to the error with 'Event Viewer', but the event (error, application) always starts with "Faulting application svchost.exe", so I'm guessing that a service is responsible. It seems to appear in random timings, sometimes just after startup, but other times about 5 to10 minutes later, even by itself (so it's not when i start a certain program like my web browser etc.) I also c... A:Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close

Hello,I posted this last week, and it saddens me that no one has replied yet...I wanted to post an update about the situation:I used to have a router (Linksys WRT54G2) prior to the appearance of this message, and i sent it to repair because of constant connection problems.Last week i got it back, and since then, the problem just started acting more bizarre. At start, i didn't get the message at all for a day & a half.I figured it could be solved, as it must be related to the printer being set as a network printer, and with the router gone the driver was behaving badly. That's because i read somewhere that this message usually appears with faulting HP drivers (although i have a Samsung printer). But as said above, the message did re-appear after a day & a half. And that's the weird part, This message now appears on completely random timings. Before, it always appeared a few minutes after startup. But today, for example, it appear after about 6 hours. And i wasn't doing anything special during that time, just reading stuff online, surfing the web for a few hours .So, again, I'm lost.I also tried to replace the ntdll.dll with the original file from the service pack 3 package, but even in safe-mode this file was locked.I'd really appreciate some help here guys...

Hey,

So I wrote to Microsoft about the error in thread title and they told me to contact my OEM (my comp is custom built so I don't really know what to do).

Basically after a while this message displays and until I restart my comp pretty much becomes a brick. When I say "a while" it could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours, but eventually it does strike and it really bugs me.

I can't get the error report because the OS has crashed and nothing really functions.

I am using Win XP Home Serive Pack 3, any help would be greatly appreciated as google searches have failed me completely. If you require any more information about my setup I don't hesitate to ask.

PS. I don't know if this means anything but in a seemingly unrelated matter, when I am on the internet, every now and then another internet window opens and I am directed to a random site (changes every time). I have scanned my computer with fully up to date ZoneAlarm, SpyBot S&D as well as Malwarebytes and the issue still persists.

Due to the redirection problem I would first suggest checking your PC for Viruses/Malware before continuing with the "Generic Host issue", as the cause of this could also be a virus.

To check for Viruses/Malware you have to start a new thread in the Virus/Malware support section.

First you should read the "First Steps" document and gather all the required reports.
If you cannot complete any step, just skip it but be sure to include this information in your post
Then start a new thread in the virus/malware section and attach the reports you have created.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the ?autoclean? option when prompted to do so.

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

You have the Peper infection. Download PeperUninstall. Make sure you are connected online to run this program. Run it once and reboot. Then run it again for the second time. Download PeperFix and save it to your Desktop. Run it and click Find and Fix (reboot if prompted).

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)
